  Hmm, I think OP is correct, but that is without the benefit of seeing the newspaper ad. Is it the same as the web page?

  The asterisk in both cases, after BEER and GUINNESS, is used as a kind of word play.

  There is such a thing as beer-battered fish, and there is such a thing as a Guinness pie. If it was the Guinness stout that you were getting only if you purchase a pie, wouldn't they make you buy a large pie? Nope, the meal is what you get, so a small pie. It's supposed to grab a drinker's attention and think they are going to get a free drink. Quite clever, really.

    their large pie is easily a two person meal.

    when they say small, they mean "human adult sized"

    No, I haven't :( Signed up last night and just got a normal subscription email today, not a voucher for food.
