This is not a good buy, you can get the 4TB version for $199 locally.

    • Agreed. I paid ~$128 for a 3TB Seagate USB3.0 over Christmas (OW pricematched JB @ $135).

      • I paid ~ $120 for a 3tb last year from amazon, but need one now. and this is the cheapest I could find. if you find cheaper shear the love and post the link

A quick look at JB/OW/DSE shows a few 3TB USB3.0 drives under $150. If you can find something that OW carries that someone else has for cheaper, you can take advantage of their 5% pricematch (in typical OZB style).

        • different brand/model/specs/features/ => different price
if they have the same space size doesnt mean they are the same/similar to each other

its personal preference, for me I prefer WD over Seagate as brand
I had bad experience with Seagate and I am happy with WD
could be the opposite for other people

To be fair this drive from Amazon is not the WD My Book Essentials range it's the desktop storage backup and security drive. It comes with security features which the My Book Essentials range does not have.

you can build you own at the same cost
    Western Digital Green 3TB Green 64MB SATA III $129 @ umart/MSY
    Astone 3.5" SATA to USB 3.0 External Enclosure $25 @ umart/MSY
This is almost an everyday price and able to pickup locally
Although it's not as fancy as My Book, but more reliable IMO.

I'm still stocked up on the 3tb seagate from dick smith / office works a while ago for $107 lol

    • how many did you buy?

  • http://blog.backblaze.com/2014/01/21/what-hard-drive-should-… - 73.5% 36 month survival rate for Seagate.

  • This deal is good, however if you wait just a bit longer or if you can even wait until the holiday sales. There is a high possibility that you can get it way cheaper. However at this current time, I believe this is the cheapest.

If you really want to find one locally and cheap try:

However if you use this, shopper awareness and caution should be used.
