Harvey Norman: Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones $184 (Red), $198 (Black and White) - Limit 2

100

Harvey Norman is doing a sale with a bargain price (relative to RRP of $300+) of $184 for red or $198 for black/white of the first generation Dr Dre Studio over the ear headphones with active noise cancelling (i.e. this is NOT the new one with the inbuilt rechargeable battery and adaptive noise cancelling). Whilst the original RRP might've been a bit of a stretch, at this price they are pretty decent headphones if you like bass and the look. Whilst the ANC is a bit weak compared to other brands, the physical isolation isn't too bad.

Colours
Red $184: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/beats-by-dr-dre-studio-headph…
White $198: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/beats-by-dr-dre-studio-headph…
Black $198: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/beats-by-dr-dre-studio-headph…

Limit 2 per customer.

Note: I know these aren't the most popular headphones with audiophiles but I've been pretty happy with my Studio and Solo HDs. Please don't neg just for not liking the product as it's still a bargain relative to normal pricing.

I think that while both are claimed to be bass heavy, the beats would still have much more bass than the M50s. So if you enjoy your doof doof or consider your headphones as a fashion accessory, go with the beats, but if you just want a good set of headphones, save your money and go with the M50s.

      • The M50s will be superior sound quality wise.
The beats will get you admired by fashionistas but audio professionals may roll their eyes at you.
Really depends if the look and label or the sound matters to you

This all-in-one HDMI cable can share your Internet connection with multiple devices. No separate Ethernet cable needed.

I didn't know that about hdmi cables. Learn something new every day on this site.

at $120 these would be a buy, at $180 they are still nowhere near as good as their competition.

    • I think it really depends what you define as the competition and what attribute/metric you're comparing.

Is an LV bag really any better than any other bag at carrying stuff?

I personally thought the Beats Studio were a good buy at $200-$250 for the EQ (yes I am a fan of the bass), the look/fit/finish and just the overall experience. Sure there are products with better audio quality, but there are multiple things which can be compared here and for some, the overall package is worthwhile.

Besides, I'm sure this would also make a great birthday gift for young/teens who would care more about the brand/look.

      • Other headphones in the same price bracket with better function and great looks, but with a label on them that wont make audio pros roll their eyes, i guess,

there aren't many things that i could personally care less about than a neckbeard 'audophile' rolling his eyes at me in public as he walks along wearing his cargo shorts, new balance sneakers and black sabbath t shirt.

  • pretty good price for studios, but must resist.

  • insert obligitory bad comment about Beats. Offer obscure alternative in comment. Compare Beats to random objects and rattle off opinions harvested from Googling headphone forums.

I have to agree though, not a bad deal. :)
