Hitachi 70" Full HD 100hz LED $1799 Delivered @ DSE

80

Pre-Order for release on 17th February 2014

A good deal if your looking at the size alone. I cant vouch for the picture quality though, and would personally rather buy a 65" plasma instead ;) I can get this for $1660 with my staff discount and still woundn't touch it with a 10 ft pole, hah.

Review someone gave it:
"Just purchased this television and I must be honest it's terrible. Prior to this unit I had a 55 inch Sony bravia which has a much clearer and crisper picture. The speaker on this unit is absolute rubbish and sounds like your listening to your laptop. All in all a very disappointing experience which I have discussed with the management of Bing Lee to no avail . My advice is to buy a better product elsewhere, this is garbage."

:( ^ Not sure if that guy was noticing its actual picture quality difference or just noticing going from 55" to 70" which would reduce sharpness obviously. Bing Lee also sell this model, so someone should go check out the display model for us and let us know if its ok :P

It's that extra 5 inches that really helps!

      that's what she said

  • People will buy something simply because it has a "7" in front of it. shakes head

    • 7 minute abs?

      • Cos 6 minute abs is stupid

I guess size does make a difference regardless. I have had a 58" at home for several years now and everytime i think of upgrading i realise i could only ever upgrade to a 70"+ otherwise it just would not feel like much of a step up.

Lol at that review. Who spends this amount of money on a 70 inch television to only use the TV's speakers….

Heaps of people. We paid nearly $5000 for a Sony rear projection TV in 1998 and used the TV speakers. Anyway, I love how the guy says his previous 55" TV had a crisper picture. Well duh… the larger TV you get, the worse the picture is going to be because everything gets blown up, but the resolution stays the same. In other words, a 40" TV would offer a crisper picture than his 55", but he's probably too stupid to realize that.

i believe old school style rear pro tvs had very large speakers built in to the base. there is no room in these LCD tvs for a decent speaker. anyone that buys a tv this big needs a proper home cinema set up.

Exactly, I had a rear projection TV in 1998 also and the speakers were quite large, bassy and high quality. They were as powerful as my stereo at the time easily. These days they aim to make the screen look as good as possible because that's what sells TVs in the shops. Having very little edge around the screen and being very thin makes them look very nice and modern but doesn't allow room for speakers. Hence you get tiny speakers with a tinny sound and no bass.

        • I don't know. The speakers on my Panasonic LED tv isn't too bad it's quite good actually compared to others. The setup on one of those cheap no name generic TV's would be crap like this Hitachi LED TV. They're not even made by Hitachi themselves any way just some low quality manufacturer in China with the Hitachi brand name slapped on it and sold in Australia under licensing.

So if you buy this TV you might as well be buying any generic TV because it's what it basically is.

      • Hence the market for ultra HD TVs now :) But that being said I love being able to watch my 70" TV without wearing glasses.

      • Heaps of people. We paid nearly $5000 for a Sony rear projection TV in 1998

How the heck do you go from claiming heaps of people are buying modern flat-panels JUST for the crappy 2 x 5W speakers to an anecdote about your TV from 1998?

        Just… what…

No, no one is buying LCD TVs for the damn built-in speakers. Just stop.

We paid $1200 in 1982 for a wooden AWA TV that was made in Australia and it had great speakers, but seriously if you are going to go back in history to CRTs or rear projections to find a tv that sounds good enough for the times that's largely irrelevant (and I consider even 16 years ago largely irrelevant).

I agree though that many people buy a tv, plug it in and watch, but anyone spending this much money and not spending at least $80 on speakers are going themselves a major disservice, especially someone investing in a 70" screen.

        • And watching 576i FTA TV on such a screen is not doing it a disservice either? Yet, we know that 99% of people who buy this TV are going to primarily be watching FTA, or DVD.

        • Or catch up tv, which isn't the best quality either. But the telegraph is the most popular paper in Sydney, so why be surprised that the majority are either ignorant, lazy, only in to sports or any combination of the 3?

Actualy your story reminds me of the next TV I had, around 92 we got a Sony 68cm for 2k, iI remember we paid an extra 200 for the sub woofer, as going from the award to the Sony monitor style was definitely a step down sound wise, the sound was good with the sub but 200 bucks for a plastic box with a 4" driver was a bit rich, reminds me how badly we got punished by the Japanese when everything was made over there.

    • I agree. I bought the Sharp 70" and within a week I bought a HTIB. Not the best in the world but made a huge difference.

Perfect for watching Free to Air TV !

  • What is a good buy for a 55" for around $1500?

  • Wow this is cheap….
