For a limited time, GameMaker Studio Standard edition is available for free. Valued at $49.99, GameMaker Studio Standard is a significant improvement upon the free version of the software which imposes harsh restrictions on the resources that developers can make use of.

Just download it, install and open it. Then you need to register with your email to get Standard edition.

Confirmation email may take 10 minutes.

Additionally, developers can use their free Standard edition license to upgrade to the Professional edition (RRP $99.99) for only $35 more. This offer ends March 2, 2014.

    Activated it. Targets Tizen fine but is there any other benefit in the program now being classified as "Professional edition"? Still can't target any other platforms.

    Never mind, read the product page. I understand now. Pro edition has it's own things, but even then you still have to pay for the other exporters which are not included. For those of you wondering, adding Tizen enables the following:

    Texture Management
    Multiple Configurations
    Team Features
    Developer Services Portal (DSP)
    Mobile Testing

  Gamemaker studio is an .exe file - and windows only (unless you use a VM on mac)

    If you read the comments to the link, someone said that the Mac version is "pretty awful". No idea how bad it could be since I haven't tried it yet.

  Please note that the GameMaker: Studio IDE will only run on Microsoft Windows systems.

    Also, when I run it under Linux/Wine, it seems to just give me a blank black window.
