Sony PRS-T2 E-Reader $89 JB Hi-Fi

70

Noticed this while browsing a bright yellow website.

White version $89 also:

It's not the absolute lowest price we've seen for the Sony PRS-T2 on OzBargain, but not half bad either, and most importantly not expired :)

Me, I'm still on the fence about these e-readers.

Incidentally, if the headline mod can tell me why every posting Has To Be Capitalised even when I don't want it, I'd appreciate it :)

Looks correctly capitalised to me - what's the problem ?

Hah! Mod jumped on the uncapitalised text moments after I posted.

In all honesty, some of the changes to headlines on this site are beyond belief. I still remember one thread where I posted my experience with ebgames in the forum.

The title had the word "ebgames.com.au" in it and it was silently changed to "ebgames" and god knows why. Search result optimization? The edit was a 'silent' one showing no editing notification.

Anyway…just some random rambling, but it's annoying to constantly be edited for (IMO) stupid reasons.

        • Edited or corrected?

        • Edited or corrected?

That all depends on whether you think the word e-reader should become E-Reader

That's what was modified here. I kid you not. The rest was as you see it now (capital S for the word Sony and capitals for the model name PRS-T2).

          Just e-reader changed to E-Reader

          (!)

  • no backlight? does Sony even make an ereader with backlight? i know Kindle and Kobo do, kind of hard to go back to non backlight

    • No backlight. Nope, no backlight in the PRS-T3 either, which hasn't been released in the USA, last I looked. Not sure if we're getting it.

  • Pretty crappy buy when the kobo touch is $89

    • what's the difference between the two?

I bought one of these (Sony PRS-T2) @ JB for $89 about 3-4 weeks back. Not sure how it compares to Kobo touch, but it's done the job for me without a problem. And I did take mine for a 5-day hiking trip so it survived some pretty hot and dusty conditions without a hitch.

What is worth mentioning is that you can get a cover for this eReader for $5 at JB. It appears to be down from $45 to $5. For a genuine Sony cover, that's pretty good.

So an even better bargain is the Sony PRS-T2 + the cover for a grand total of $94. I couldn't find a better bargain for a reputable eReader + cover, hence the decision to purchase the Sony.

I bought this $50 at colsco after Xmas, not sure if there is stock now.

If purchasing Sony eReaders, you might want to keep this recent SMH article in consideration, which says that Sony is exiting the North American eBook market and has transferred their cutomers to Kobo. At the time of writing it didn't affect Australian customers, but maybe the writing's on the wall?

The Sony eBook store was rubbish anyways. Really limited selection and prices that even Dymocks were like 'dude.. seriously?'.

My first ereader was a Sony, and it still works perfectly. But after using a paperwhite, everything else is a bit 2002.

Pity they never introduced a back-lit or side-lit screen.

Sony have generally been in the top few for e-readers due to the large number of ebook formats their readers support, excellent battery life and ease of transferring files.

I've had my PRS-01 for a few years (with a cover that includes a light) and its been brilliant.

But if I do get another e-reader, it will likely be a back-lit or side-lit model.
