If you love platformers or have intelligent kids don't miss Rayman Legends for Wii U which can be found cheap these days. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is also a masterful game.

There's also Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, and Injustice for less than 17 bucks each at OzGameshop.

Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Wind Waker are all essential 2013 games.

Mario Kart 8 releases on the 31st May, with a new Legend of Zelda title and Smash Bros expected this year.

Wii Fit U is an excellent weight and activity tracker with the most advanced pedometer commercially available.

The Wii U uses any Wii accessories you already own, including balance board, wii motes, nunchucks, classic controllers, anything.

There's also a massive list of NES, SNES, N64, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive, Neo Geo, Turbografx, MSX, Commodore 64 and Arcade games you can pick up for a few dollars. Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS games will be added to these in a couple months.

Don't forget it can also play every single Wii game.

There's also a massive list of indie titles announced for Wii U. Knytt Underground just released and scored well, Retro City Rampage was supposed to be out last Friday, but was just delayed. It should release in a couple weeks.

      nice summary!

no way zelda's out this year though :(

      • I think they promised it this year. I can't wait to see it, Wind Waker is pretty good actually.

    • Do you work for nintendo? haha

  • good find

Love the wii U graphics compared to the Wii.

Unfortunate that you need the controllers from the wii as the wii u only comes with the tablet controller.

Also after a year our unit had a strange error. I thought it was dead but upon googling it ended up being the small "watch battery" had gone flat. Easily changable, but one thing to remember in case you have the same issue.

Cannot wait for mario Kart 8.

Also my kids LOVE rayman legends, got like a 9/10 from Good Game SP.

    • Mario Kart 8? Only if they ditch motion controls and make some sweet controller based hop-turn-wiggle the stick-free mini boost action.

      • +1

You can use the new pro controller that's sort of like the xbox controller

  • That's quite a saving. Will this be the cheapest for a while? Should i get it now or wait for another deal?

    • I'm thinking the same! Maybe it'll be cheaper from now on seeing as the xbox one and ps4 are out to give stiff competition

I paid 380 on launch, same pack but with Nintendoland instead of the two Mario games. Plus I was able to buy the 30 cent NES and SNES titles they had for a limited time after launch.

Looking through the OzBargain history there was a sale for Premium pack with Nintendoland for 350 at Big W in November. The Mario games make this is a better deal.

I haven't found shipping one from Europe to be viable as online prices are inflated and postage is excessive.

The Wii was 400 dollars for most of its 6 year life, this has a Wii in it, as well as the best implementation of my favourite feature from the latest generation of consoles: off screen gameplay.

      • I did a bit of reading and I'm leaning towards the basic pack instead of premium now. How's the memory holding for you? From what i read, the memory difference doesn't seem important when you can use an external hardrive. And the premium rewards with the eshop points does not seem good at all. Not sure if nintendo will do better premium rewards but paying an extra 80-100 for premium doesn't seem worth it. What are your thoughts?

        • The basic pack has been discontinued, which means there have been more opportunities to get one at a discount, and there are rarely games included (only example I can find is Skylanders Swap Force Basic Pack @ JBHifi is 300). New Super Mario Bros U runs 63 bucks at OzGameshop, New Super Luigi U, which is as long as the Mario title, is 30 bucks on the eShop.

The premium rewards system is just a little bonus for people who sink a lot of money into their Wii U. It's only a $7 credit after you spend about $70 on eShop and Wii U VC games, too little reward to consider it a selling point for the premium.

You're right about the space, it doesn't matter if you pick up an external hard drive. Worth noting though is that 32gb (25gb usable) is not an internal hard drive but high speed flash memory embedded into the system. I wouldn't put full digital retail games on that, but it's handy for DLC, eShop and VC games.

Consider when purchasing the basic that you'll need a sensor bar to use Wii motes. But it's exactly the same one from the Wii.

        • Nah the basic hasn't been discontinued at all. In fact there is a new bundle with Wii U sports club coming to Japan and probably the rest of the world.

        • My mistake, perhaps it's because it has been on clearance a lot and not being restocked that it just looks like it's discontinued. I doubt any new Basic packs (if retailers choose to stock them) will be receiving similar discounts. Wii U sports club is a good pack, but at 13 dollars a sport I'm not sure it's going to make a full price Basic pack (350) amount to a Premium with 2 retail games for 370

        • I work in games retail and according to my Nintendo rep the basic console has been discontinued by Nintendo. The basic Skylanders and Just Dance bundles were put together by Nintendo to move through remaining basic consoles.

I believe the Wii sports club console in Japan is a premium model, in Japan premium is available in both black and white.

        • You are correct it's the premium. Here is the story on the new Bundle
          http://www.videogamer.com/wiiu/wii_sports_club_bowling/news/…

        • That's a 32GB white premium.

    • Not as cheap as when I got mine back in Nov :)

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123059

  • I think the Wii U is definitely going to get cheaper than this soon. Perhaps not an official price drop, but I would hedge my bets on better sales in the next few months. I base this on 1) the console hasn't been selling well and 2) there have already been a couple of sales where the machine was susbtantially cheaper than this.

    • Mario Kart 8 says no.

      • Maybe, but I wouldn't be buying one now… If I didn't already own one :P

      • +2

Everything else says yes though. The Wii U has pretty much already been overtaken by the PS4 worldwide in sales, and the XB1 is right behind it. The Wii U is, at this stage, fast becoming one of the biggest console failures in history. They need to drop the price to get some sales. It's a vicious cycle - without good sales numbers no developers will make games for it, but no-one will buy the console if it has no games.

It will get an official price cut sooner rather than later, and I'd say an unofficial one even earlier, unless they do the unthinkable and either release a more traditional (and more powerful) replacement, or drop out of the home console business for a while and focus solely on handheld.

        • For those keeping score the Wii U is 300,000 units ahead of the PS4 in global sales. The PS4 is still selling at 3 times the rate of the Wii U and will overtake it in about 3 weeks.

The Xbox One is selling about 15% faster than the Wii U, despite only launching a few months ago, and is 2.2 million units behind the Wii U. If this current sales pattern continues it will take another 5.3 years to overtake the Wii U.

But we're not talking about buying shares, we're talking about buying games :)

        • -2

Wrong, the wii u figures are "shipped" consoles where as the ps4 figures are sold and in gamers hands.

The wii u is selling worse then the dreamcast and the third party support situation is the most dire in home console history (excluding obscure hardware).

The wii u is a dead console, buy a 3ds if you want a great nintendo console. If you insist on getting a wii u, I'll bet money it will be at least 33% cheaper this time next year.

        • My figures are from:

          http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/

I'd love to know of a more reliable source if you have one

        • The Xbone and ps4 also have… no games.
I think people honestly have to many games and are still playing through last gen titles. New gen isn't appealing as titles have been cross released on last gen. Kill off last gen dev I say and make the aaa titles more cost effective.

        • +1

          My figures are from: vgchartz

That's your first mistake. VGChartz's figures, by the site owners own admission, are a guess. It's basically a guy on the internet with no actual access to any official sales figures "guesstimating".

The Xbox One sold over 3 million by the end of 2013, so in roughly 2.5 months. The Wii U, by the end of January, had shipped just shy of 5.9 million consoles. By this same time the XB1 had shipped 3.9 million. The Wii U came out in November 2012, a full 12 months before the XB1, yet it has only shipped 2 million more consoles. The XB1 had averaged ~490k a week (3.9mil/~8 weeks - mid Nov 2013->end Jan 2014) whereas the Wii U has averaged only ~98k a week (5.9mil/60 weeks - mid Nov 2012->end Jan 2014). For the XB1 to make up the 2 million gap, at 400k a week, it would take ~5 weeks, not 5.3 years. Now obviously the launch period inflates the XB1s weekly sales, but it is a safe bet to say that it will sell about 8 million or more consoles in its first 12 months on sale. The Wii U will be lucky to hit 8 million by 2015.

Not to mention that Nintendo themselves have dropped their Wii U sales forecast for the year from 9 million to 2.8 million. Let me reiterate that - 2.8 million for the entire year. The Wii U is in dire need of a price cut. It's completely bombing, which is unfortunate because it has some absolutely brilliant games.

But we're not talking about buying shares, we're talking about buying games :)

Correct - but without hardware sales there won't be any games. Numerous big publishers/developers have already said they won't make Wii U games until sales increase.

  • Just so you guys know, EBGAMES sell WII U premium used units for $278.

No games though. I guess it's similiar pricing.

This bundle seems sort of worth it but it's a shame it's not Super Mario 3D world.

One thing that's good about this bundle is that the physical disc actually contacts both games.

  • There are no price drops from Nintendo coming at all so it's up to retailers to decide whether they want to discount it or not.

  • What's this bundle usually cost?

    • +1

$399 @ Target with just console, $428 everywhere else with bundle

  • This is a good deal especially given it's Premium.

I personally bought the $250 deal at JB Hifi with Skylanders & Nintendoland (missed out on Target's last deal), and sold Skylanders for $50. Then I bought New Super Mario Bros U for $50 thanks to Target price matching Blockbuster. Got the Gamepad charging stand (and normal non-charger stand) on sale for $20 from JB Hifi. So all up, $270 for the same thing but with Basic Pack and without Luigi. Not a bad deal IMO but if this was available at the time, I probably would've just gotten this pack and saved myself the hassle.

  • waiting for premium to fall under $200, only then will i buy one.

    • $250 I say it wil be close in another year

  • +1

If you can wait I am sure there will be cracker deals in the lead up to Christmas….you will also have a better idea as to the games coming and the future of the console.

This unit suffers from the same thing all there others ones did….Nintendo love to control everything and everyone….they always rely on the classics to sell their consoles and chain software developers from making great games early in the consoles life….it makes it hard for anyone who is not a fanboy to jump on board..

    • Here is a list of the games coming in 2014 for Wii U
      http://au.ign.com/games/upcoming/wii-u

      • Also note, Nintendo announce games when they're getting close to coming out. For instance Wind Waker HD was announced in January, released in October. Super Mario 3D World announced in June, released in November. Not to mention eShop games which are released the day they are announced (Dr Luigi, NES Remix).

I expect we will know which retail releases we'll see this year at E3 in June, and we won't know the full extent of 2014 eShop titles until the year is done.

        • Yeah there will be lots more releases during the year. You need to keep an eye out for Nintendo directs :)

    • Pretty much. That being said, Nintendo's IP is what makes it special. I really enjoy playing the games on X360/PS3 which feel far more 'epic' sized, but I also really enjoy the simplicity of Nintendo games. There's something about them which makes them feel casual yet premium. Something as silly as the Yoshi game in Nintendoland provides my simple mind with great enjoyment/relaxation after a day at work.

If anyone has seen the videos on comparisons of graphics on games from Wii U xbox one and ps4 there isn't much difference.

    • +1

Sorry man, but this simply isn't true. The Wii U can't keep up with the Xbone or PS4 at all technically, and the future of 3rd party titles on the system is shaky at best.

If people are going to buy a Wii U, they would do it for the Nintendo first party games. It's also a great choice for local mutliplayer and as a family machine. But keeping up with the PS4 and Xbone graphically is flat out untrue!

      • correct. Any modern console can do 1080p, but which one can do 1080p with a consistent frame rate of 60fps?

I suppose some games don't need to push the hardware that much, but its comforting to know it can.

        • Any modern console can do 1080p, but which one can do 1080p with a consistent frame rate of 60fps?

          None unfortunately.

      • Third party support isn't shaky, its dead. Unless you mean zombie shaky :P

      • Here is a really good comparison video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTiD9-Ma5HE

    • -1

The graphics on the WiiU are on par if not worse than the PS3/Xbox360

      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-assassins-c…

    • Haha maybe on 720p tv

    • Well, the definitive version of Rayman Legends is definitely on Wii U still :)

  • +1

You buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games.

I'll wait for the Toy Sales later this year and see how the pricing is.

  • +1

    $350 with staff discount!

  • When it gets to sub $300, I'll bite.

Not sure if that'll happen this year though.. :)

  • Do you guys think that lack of Nintendo sales have been due to the hardware?

The Wii vs PS3/XBOX360 was technically inferior in terms of processing power, graphics etc etc, even though it was innovative in the sense that it introduced motion gaming.

Same with the Wii-U, it's technically inferior again to the PS4/XB1.

    • Nintendo has never been about hardware and specifications. Reminds me a bit of DS vs PSP from nearly a decade ago- the PSP was what you pulled out to wow your friends and think "can't believe the graphics this good are in something this small" but the DS was what you played when you just wanted to have simple fun. Admittedly some of that is now taken over by iPhones/iPads, but I think Nintendo doesn't need to win hardware spec wars- that only matters for cross platform titles.

That all being said, I'll probably still buy an X1 or PS4 at some point once a game comes out which I actually want. For me, the only game I really wanted but couldn't play was multiplayer Mario (since my gf likes it after playing with my nephew) hence why I bought the Wii U.

  • For anyone who is interested here is a comparison chart comparing Wii U Xbox One and PS4
    http://au.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_vs._Wii_U_…

  • Thanks OP brought myself one. Plan to put it away with my other brand new consoles.

  • Well I got in on this, even though I am pissed at nintendo for making the wii u so weak. Still couldn't resist with Super smash coming this year, and mario carts coming soon :) monster hunter will keep me busy till then.

  • For all those who missed the good guys yesterday was $330 including delivery same pack.
