  • anyone know the quality of these units? I need one for the kitchen tv lol!

    • i'd like to know too. just need one that does the job, nothing fancy. was initially thinking of the generic coles brand one but heard there are lots of problems with it so…

      • Hows about a 100% money back guarantee for our OzBargain customers? If your not happy please feel free to return.

Although it may sound subjective these boxes are far more advanced than most of the cheap MTV etc brands on the market.
I'm sure when you see the quality of all parts including ease of use, build quality, software(EPG), packaging & support you will agree.

Plenty in-stock and speedy same day shipping if ordered before 2pm daily.

how about free delivery for ozbargainers ^_^

          I will buy :)

          • @neosin: Thanks for the offer but this is a discount price already.

            • @choppy: can you pickup from sydney? lol~

also do i need a new antenna for this, the antenna that came with the tv is kinda oldschool

              • @neosin: If you're getting good reception (low noise and multi-path) of analogue signals then you will have no problems with digital transmissions.
Remember, in the capital cities, digital transmissions are on band 3 (upper VHF) using the "spare" channels 6, 8, 11 & 12, so if you have no problems with 7, 9 & 10 you should be fine. The only caveat would be that if you have a very old “pre-channel10” VHF antenna, you WILL have BIG problems due the top-end roll-off.
NO special "digital" antenna is required. There is no such thing. Don't let yourself be conned!

  • How are these any better than the countless generic set top boxes sold by many other retailers (eg. Coles) for ~$35?

  • +1

    Olin are generally pretty good.

I have a Hd version of this which is very good.

Not as good as topfield, more of a middle tier brand.

LOL at paying $9 delivery for a $35 item… it completely defeats the purpose of a bargain.

    • +1

      Yes and No.
Yes; it galls to pay 26% of the item cost additionally for shipping.
But then No; because it does cost that much to ship the item…
Like most people who've done any amount of online shopping, I've been faced with this same dilemma on a number of occasions. You simply have to consider the total cost and decide if THAT constitutes a bargain.

    • In VIC, City Software/eStore do the same product for $39.
Pickup from Mount Waverley which for me is a 1+ hour round trip.
The driving will cost $4-$5 in petrol.
      So I save $1 LOL

  • Also, Wow have this same Olin SD STB in their current catalogue for $39 as well. If you've a Wow Sight & Sound nearby, then you can pick-up at that price.
Interestingly, they also have a Teac SD STB With USB Recording listed on page 16 of the catalogue for $79. This didn't show up on the Set Top Box web page.
USB playback and recording… Now that could be handy!
