Harvey Norman Toshiba Satellite L300 - Good Laptop for $694 After Cashback

10

Bought one of these (Toshiba L300/OSN) after looking around a lot and not finding anything within even shooting distance at this price ($694 after cashback) - esp. for a name brand.
Note that it has 2GB of RAM and Vista Home Premium - 2 features I didn't find anywhere else.

What's more, when I bought it the sales guy offered me an extra 2 year RTB warranty for $49 (making the warranty 3 years) - given that the average life of a laptop is 2-3 years I'm pretty happy with that.

Specs: Intel Celeron 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD burner, 15.4" screen, Windows Vista Home Premium

At this price it's a great option for the kids (especially if you can get the government's cashback) or someone just looking for a decent sized reliable laptop - have had several toshiba laptops over the years and never had a problem with them.

Wouldn't recommend this, CPU is celeron.

  • This laptop has been mentioned before. and yea Intel Celeron is ewww, very bad performance for my taste, at least go for a Dual core.

  • The Acer equivalent more than 12 months ago could be brought for $499 after Cash Back through OfficeWorks, Harvey Norman etc… One I picked up about 15 months ago (Same spec's but does have Vista Basic) is still going well - but otherwise is terribly slow (although, I haven't seen Vista x86 run well on laptops anyway). If you can downgrade it to Windows XP, it wouldn't be bad for web browsing and word processing.

  • a celeron for $700……hmmmm

  • Joyce Mayne has got similar Toshiba Satellite laptop but 4GB of RAM for $768 after $150 rebate.

I avoid single core Celerons wherever possible. There's T1600, QL64, T3400 dual-core CPU equipped faster systems for very similar money if prepared to hunt them down. Consider the units at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1216989
