not too bad for a 16GB delivered anywhere in Australia, it's promoted by eBay Group Buy though so pretty safe :)

Please post this as a bargain when it is available. Until then it is just a roumor - right?

      • I heard the sale on the radio. 10% off iPads too.

As you can confirm these prices for iPhones and iPads, why don't you post them as a bargain?

          Too lazy.

Dont get overseas unit you will have issue with warranty. Apple in Oz will not warrant the set you will have to ship to HKG for warranty.

      Not just this.

Also - effectively we get two years of warranty support on Australian Market iPhones - and don't forget the 'out of warranty' replacement support.

  • Christ this hardware is expensive. Wish everyone would stop allowing these margins from Apple

Just how do you suggest 'we' do this?

Sales were dropping, and users/media were clamouring for a cheaper iPhone model, last year. What did we get? The same phone with a plastic back at a higher price - and an even more expensive S(peedy) model.

    • Sigh…. here we go again. You are buying more than just hardware…

      • The experience as well? :P

  • I purchased a Hong Kong stock from eBay at the end of last year, the lightning cable for some reason got fried, I walked into an Apple store in Hobart and the staff just took the faulty cable and ordered a new one right away. Couple of days later I got a brand new cable free of charge, no questions asked whatsoever, only jot down my contact details so they could notify me when the cable is in stock.

Interesting? What exactly is your point? That they did not check the cable's serial number and discover that it was supplied with a Hong Kong market phone?

If it had been the phone that had a problem they would check the IMEI/Serial and suggest it be returned to Hong Kong for warranty (or 'out of warranty') support.

      • Sorry for my late reply, I did not notice it until now.

I was merely sharing my experience in hoping it can help fellow ozbargainers.

Your experience was that Apple cables are covered under an international warranty. This has always been the case.

It is iPhones, and iPads with celluar, that are (mostly) only covered in their market of first supply/sale.

I just got a 5S 64GB last week from Virgin for $576 ($24 per month)

    • +1

Comes with a 50$ plan … with just 1GB Data … so the plan compares to around 30$ for BYO option … so you paid actually 44$/month x24 —> 1056$ (you still save a bit as you don't need to spend the money straight away … so pretty much the same normal cost as the phone outright).

Not saying its a bad plan …
And I know that my calculation is not perfect … but it is much closer to the real cost!

      • +2

This is jv miniwombat. You have lots to learn. Lol

        • Haha … don't worry - I actually really checked the Virgin page if there was a good deal .. haha … should have known better. So better reply before someone takes him serious … :-)

(no offence jv ;-) … I enjoy your comments :-)

      • Comes with a 50$ plan … with just 1GB Data …

2GB data for the life of the plan if you ordered before 3/3

also, for an extra $10 per month, they'll give you 4GB, but not sure I'll need that much… Can add that on at any time…

I also have piece of mind knowing that I can take it to any Apple store for warranty for the next 2 years…

so the plan compares to around 30$ for BYO option

It's actually the same plan as the $40 BYO, not the $30, So it's about $200 cheaper than buying it outright…

  • Just bought 2.

Are you planning to move to Hong Kong, have friends/relatives there, or what?

How much are you saving when you take warranty and out of warranty support in to the calculations?

      • Apple appears to honour warranties regardless of where the product was purchased - I'll admit though that this is based purely off anecdotal evidence and personal experience. So, I'm not claiming that this is their policy or that they always do so.

You appear to be talking about "products". However, this discussion is about the Hong Kong / China / Macau Market Apple iPhone 5s. Apple Australia will not support this item. Such phones must returned to Hong Kong for support.

They will support it. It's the wifi-only products like iPad wifi that they won't honor. If you have a 4G LTE product, it will be honored.

Let me fix that for you.

They will NOT support it. It's only with the wifi-only products like iPad wifi that they WILL support in Australia. If you have a Hong Kong Market 4G LTE product, such as an iPhone 5c 5s or iPad, the warranty will NOT be supported in Australia by Apple Australia.

The iPhone, and cellular iPad, warranty policy is clearly stated on the Apple website. If you need further confirmation you can call Apple on 1300-321-456.
