My wife and I love SBS. Their choice of movies are very diverse and arty and interesting and etc

    • +19

i heard SBS stands for "soccer -> breasts -> soccer"

i dont like soccer but the other stuff makes up for it

      • +2

        "sex -> boobs -> Soccer"

        Corrected for you.

        • +1

doesnt make sense to me now :( i would think u see people playing soccer, they then score a goal in which case the crowd jumps up along with bouncing boobs for a glimmer of happiness then they focus back to soccer :D

      • aka… breast sandwich

        It's Sex Before Sleep!

    Anyone see any noteable/interesting/famous titles?

  • +45

This takes me back to the teenage years when I'd scan through the synopsis of the 10pm movies on SBS each week looking for one that I would consider a "must-see"…which would usually be something like "A Bulgarian gymnast embarks on a journey of sexual awakening.." then throwing the G-Code in the VCR and waiting for the right time to settle down and follow the "journey".

    • +30

      too much information.

    • +6

You'd love this new plan from Netflix then:

Their ratings must have taken a beating once the internet was invented.

    • +2

Your comment could also double as the story of my childhood. Friday nights 10:00pm best time of the week.

    • 'Room in Rome' should take you back to the journey…

      • a classic tit-le

      • Just had a look, great film, although I had no idea what any of them are saying. Two naked girls just makes a great film every time.

    • +1

      You mean something like this?

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0kzP97D_w4

    • The movie "The Blonde With Bare Breasts" is on the list.

However, well, the blonde is a painting. But its french (I think), so, you know, there is still a gorgeous woman in it.

  • +1

I suspect it'll also work on the Boxee

  • +2

World movies is great, and this looks the goods.

I particularly love Audrey Tautou, so will watch Beautiful Lies on my FetchTV.

    Pax

    • oooh, thanks for the tip - I'm also a big fan of her

  • +6

Well there's a few mixed titles, but if you've never seen it "Get Ready to be Boyvoiced" is a hilarious musical doco parody.

    • hah… I remember that one. Seconded; worthwhile for a laugh.

  • +7

Is The Weather Woman in this collection?

    • No, sorry.

    • Was waiting for someone to mention this :-D

  • +1

I saw Air Doll on the SBS On Demand page yesterday, not sure if it's on the movie site. Check that out. Also I hear Wu Xia is good but I haven't seen it.

  • Nice find. Different categories. Looks like some different movies.:)

  • does anyone know how to get it working on a non-samsung android device?

    • Web browser and Flash will do it.

    • get photon, that support flash based web

  • +2

Torrente: The Dumb Arm of the Law

    Classic!

  • SBS thinks I'm outside Australia and refuses to stream. Other methods are so much easier.

    • +1

Are you using a VPN service? I use Getflix, and had to switch my region for one of the settings to Australia.

      • Seems to be just that I'm using my own DNS server, not the ISP one.

  • +2

Ahhhh, Audrey Tautou :) I'm melting already. A timely reminder for me to get my large collection of Amelie memorabilia out and take a trip down memory lane…

    • +1

Another Audrey fan I see :)

      • +3

BIG time but especially her portrayal of Amelie. My Amelie collection includes all the Kubrick figurines, every limited edition tin box release of the movie from around the globe, the now 'unobtanium' Pig Lamp as seen here: http://www.thefilmpalace.com/images/AmeliePigLamp.jpg which is still in its packaging & box plus a French version of the Amelie movie poster signed by Audrey complete with photographic proof & COA and book-bound & box framed behind UV protecting glass. I also took it to another level and have purchased a couple of Motobecane Mobylette Mopeds as featured in the movie however I sold them as they weren't the exact same model… but I'm still on the lookout ;) Yeah, self-confessed Amelie freak :)

Is there any way to save any of these movies for offline viewing?

    • +2

      sbs napper?

      • Thanks battler and melmac77. Will try tomorrow.

    • +1

If you use Firefox webh browser, there is an add-on called DownloadHelper which should also work.
You may need to start it playing first though to get the link.

      • Also NetVideoHunter gives you a button, top right corner next to search pane.
Still can't do RTMP I think, but there's RTMPDump for that.

  • +3

"Let The Right One In" is a brilliant film.

    • And has one 1 second "flash" that is not in the US version.
Changes the meaning of the line (which is in both versions) - "I'm not a girl".

I also have the dvd, and the SBS version is the better version. Better job on the subs.

  • Thank you! I used to love going through SBS movies then my TV went strange and never could properly get SBS again…I've used SBS on Demand since then but all these movies is even better!

  • +1

The Intouchables. Why isn't it on the list? Ozbargainers would love it.

    • +1

Wooo Free legitimate softcore and hardcore pawn….

    • +5

Hardcore pawn? You must really like playing chess.

      • wouldn't you like to checkmate with the queen of the board?

        • +3

Hardcore pawn is like hocking all of your belongings at once.

  • I recommend the two films I only know on that list; Boy and Let the Right One In

  • Awesome, thanks OP.

  • -4

I can imagine this will cost SBS a fortune considering iView is paying millions per year to run.

  • There was a time when I was living by myself in a remote area, I would watch the late SBS movie every single night. So many great films were seen.

    • +1

I can just imagine the pile of Kleenex

  • I love SBS on demand, every weekend I watch atleast 1 movie or doco, Spies of Warsaw was last weekends marathon, all 4hours of it.

  • +5

Great find. It even has that evil chinese television dating show!

    • +6

      Can you feel it?!

      • Jean roc says? Lol. That's a funny show man..

    • +1

I am Chinese. And Yes. That is EVIL.

  • Good movie recommendations?

    • +3

The top 10 clicks seem to be the most popular for good reasons i guess :D

      • But even a movie like Nakita isn't on the list. I think that would be a good one. Hence why i'm keen on people's favourites too.

  • -3

    Based on their programming.

    SBS = Soccer Before Sex

  • +1

I just watched Nikita, excellent movie.

  • +1

I love Ondskan. About a boy who gets bullied at a private school. My favourite film.

  • +1

amazing how intelligent the film can be away from hollywood and WASP cliche

  • No Irreversible, Martyrs or Salo.

    The horror.

    • Irreversible — the main thing is never being able to 'unwatch' those crucial scenes, or forget the scenes that were alluded to…
Martyrs is little more than a slasher-fest like Battle Royale or the Saw series, IMHO.
Salo — nobody needs to watch that, certainly not for a second time — though Margaret Pomeranz would defend to death our rights to do so!

      • Irreversible - agree. I'll probably never watch it again. And for those who have yet to see it, make sure you have a sub-woofer. Almost 30 minutes of the brown note.

Martyrs is nothing like Battle Royale.
        Saw….maybe. Closer to Hostel heavy.
IMHO, the first 45 minutes is the best. Great thriller/horror. 2nd half - that's just some nasty stuff, but that's the point.

Love At First Hiccup is my all time romantic comedy favourite! Its on the list!
Psychology (I think was the name) was a Japanese movie that scared the wits out of me and I thought nothing scares me anymore. This is not on the list unfortunately but is my Horror/thriller favourite of all time.
Favourite Short Film was Titsiana Booberini….err no, its a musical… not what it sounds like. I've search high and long for this online. I think it was around the Eat Carpet days and may be lost forever.

I should thank SBS for having most of my favourites of all time!

    • +1

so.. Titsiani Booberini you say? You're welcome :) (and downloadable.. luvverly)

      http://tanialacy.com/site/short-films-2/

      • You are an Internet Guru! Unbelievable. I did more than just Google around…all those hours of searching and posting over the years, just unbelievable. Ozb has come through again. You are sooo awesome gizmomelb!

    • Eat Carpet

      awesome.

I remember watching a short film on SBS in about 1997 called Topic 1 + 2.

it was a black&white stop-go film shot at night in Prague.

had it on tape and would watch it over and over again.

my brother borrowed it and lost it.

      anyone know it? have it?

    • Errata: Hypnosis was the Japanese Horror/thriller I was trying to think of. But its not on atm. Recommend looking out for the repeat.

  • Ahhh should not have clicked on "Shot by Kern" at work…
