  • I've been eying off this tasting pack at Dan's for awhile. I'll check my local BWS tomorrow (Salisbury SA) and will report back. Either way it's a great deal

    • Checked my local in SA and unfortunately they do not stock the pack.

      • picked up the last packs at enfield sa today (saturday}

  • +1

Will taste and be back for a carton or two if they are good.

They're very good, especially their stout… yum !!!

    • Thanks for the review. Gonna get 2 slabs tomorrow.

      • +2

        You won't regret it…

I did some tastings at Dan's a couple of years back when the brewer was in store.
They were giving away a free beer stein with each slab. I wanted to buy a few different 6 packs and he put together a mixed slab and gave it to me at the slab price, plus got the free 1 litre stein…

Had Gippsland gold, Hatlifter Stout, Natural Blonde and I think Yarra Gold. All great drinking, but stout was my favourite… (I hated stout until I tried theirs)

      • Tasting was good.

Have two boxes (10 6 packs) put away for me to pick up this evening :)

I went to a conference a couple years ago, and grand ridge brewery was the only beer of choice… Never heard so many complaints in my life.. I spent the night drinking wine..

    • +8

Never heard so many complaints in my life.

      They were probably VB drinkers…

      Reviews :

      Hatlifter Stound

      Gippsland Gold

      Cons:
nil, only 24 in a box

      • +2

Yeah seriously, I can't understand why any beer drinkers would be turning their noses up at Grand Ridge unless their tastes were very, very limited.

I complain when I go to a pub and there's eight beers on tap and they're ALL THE SAME LAGER WITH DIFFERENT NAMES

  • Will definitely be checking out my local BWS tomorrow. Great price!

  • -5

BWS do all sorts of individual 1-off specials to clear stock in individual stores. I got 4 packs of feral hop hog for $8 instead of $17 at a bws once in Ferntree Gully. I went 2km to other bws stores and they all were $17.

In summary: I wouldn't expect this price at any other store.

    • Have you gone out to check any other BWSs or are you negging based on an assumption? :)

      • Based on his previous experience, clearly.

    • $8 for Hop Hog? You lucky man!

    • +3

why so many negs?, went to my local BWS today and they were on special for $20. So Kabammi has a valid point.

      • +3

His valid point is not a good enough reason to neg, even though this is not available nation wide it might be available for a number of stores or at least available at South Yarra, Vic.
There is nothing wrong with a deal even if it only available at specific store.

        • oh thats why, well then he deserves it

        • well thanks for clearing that up. however, that should be specified more clearly from the get-go. bws are just about everywhere, if someone gets a one off in a specific store and ends up wasting 300 peoples time chasing a ghost deal nationally, then that reflects badly on OB as a site. just saying.

  • Does anyone have the link for the bws for this offer? Can't seem to find it. Trying to pay for it and have it picked up tomoro!

  • +1

OP, any chance of uploading the purchase receipt?

      • +1

Had you done some 'tasting' before taking that photo?

      • Would other BWS stores price match this?

Do other liquor stores sell this, and would they price match it?

        • Yes, try uncle dan.

        • Another store cannot price match it until their system allows it to be reduced automatically. I believe Dan Murphy's requires a special to be advertised, but I'm not sure 100%.

      • Legend!

  • +2

getting into the stout now. agree delicous

  • Has anyone price-matched with Dan Murphy's off a receipt or do they require an advertisement?

    • +3

      it needs to be advertised.

  • Sasparella beer? Whats the verdict?

  • always +1 for cheap beer.
would buy if there was a bws near me..why on earth dose woolies run 3 different liquor retailing brands ?

    • Isn't it just BWS & Dans these days? Or is there still some Woolworths liquor outlets out there that haven't been re branded?

      • All the Woollies I've been to lately have all been BWS….

        • +1

A national re-branding took place last year for all Woolworths Liquor stores to turn them into BWS.

  • +1

Checking the Dan Murphy's website, most of those beers from the 6 pack aren't even available for purchase. Bugger. Would hate to fall in love with one (or more) and never be able to acquire it easily again.

    +1 though. They sound delicious.

    • +2

most of those beers from the 6 pack aren't even available for purchase.

      1st Choice have a couple that Dan don't stock…

      • Cheers jv.

I really want to try that Nut Brown Ale. It's not even available on the Grand Ridge website :( The SarsBEERilla Stout sounds intriguing also. Looks like it'll be Hatlifter instead. yum

  • haha what a coincidence, i just cracked open a bottle of these. I bought these a couple hours ago, they were meant for christmas gift packs but they didnt sell. So thats why its getting reduced. It tastes pretty nice too !

    • they were meant for christmas gift packs

      Easter Gift packs ????

I can't wait that long though… Footy starts on Friday !!!!

  • +2

This is per-store and you will not be able to "match" it at another store or anything. You are best calling ahead to ask if your local store has them reduced yet. You may be lucky, however it is essentially random.

    • That's exactly what I was told in my local BWS too when I was after one of the earlier deals. So, you might get lucky, but probably not and you can't really expect anyone to match clearance stock pricing. Make sure to have a look around just in case there's something else reduced.

      • -1

Just came back from the braybrook store and cleaned out all 8 gift packs@$8 a pop.

  • +4

This is a good beer company. When not drinking my own yummy homemade beer, this is one company I will drink from. Their moonshine is especially yummy. Chocco scotch! Best news is it only takes a few before weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

  • I used to love their Black and Tan, don't think they make it anymore though.

  • +1

4.9% isn't a stout. That is barely a porter. If you want real export or imperial stout, not something that tastes like watery coffee, then you want Coopers (which itself was watered down) or Southwark. All the major liquor stores here have close to zero stout imports. So you'd need to go elsewhere for North Coast, Nogne O, Mikeller, Brooklyn Brewery, Founders etc. And elsewhere will run you well over 150 a case due to Australia's mega spastic alcohol taxes.

    • +3

      4.9% isn't a stout. That is barely a porter.

The difference between stout and porter is not the alcohol difference.

      • It is and always has been. Stouts (i.e. English foreign export + imperial) were meant to be strong. Guinness was up past 7% before it was watered down to 4%. There was no such thing as 5% stout. You needed the high alcohol to survive shipping it + to support the flavour. 5% stout is a travesty.

        • You needed the high alcohol to survive shipping it

Shipping from Gippsland is next day delivery though ?

        • +1

Back in the 18th century. Your standard "modern stout" has been watered down and butchered, except for those brewers who still brew the originals (or variants).

  • it's random which stores may have it reduced

    I don't think it's truly random.
I'm currently trying to work out the formula for it, will post back when I solve it… Hic !

  • Kirribilli BWS next to Harbour Bridge have some, but the selection sounded crap, like all light beers pretty much, no stout.

    • but the selection sounded crap

I bet they still tasted better than XXXX

      • +1

        An infinite amount better!

  • +2

confirmed at least for victoria if not nationwide:

apparently each store was given 15 cases (5 gift packs per case) to sell for christmas

this photo was taken today just before camberwell was about to put up new reduced price signage:

  • Just picked up 5 six packs at BWS Eastwood Centre.
I think it is good deal. Thanks OP

    • thanks for confirming that it's not just vic - welcome to ozbargain :)

  • In Brisbane, I've found Nudgee & fortitude valley both priced at $20, yet scanned at $8.

There is no stock left at these stores.

  • Any idea on the used by dates?

    • +1

      none - couldn't find any printed :)

      • Same here. Tasted awesome though. A great Aussie company that deserves out support.

        Plenty at BWS Richmond Vic.

  • $20 at BWS Flemington but tons of stock. I didn't try scanning them like kraji above, so may have scanned in at $8?

  • +1

Just bought 4 slabs @ A$8 for each from BWS Castle Hill, NSW. There were 4 more left one hour ago.

    • Wicked. What beers did you get in the packs? Are they all the same?

  • Picked one up from Milsons Point (not many left), looking forward to some brewskis this evening. Thanks OP!

  • thanks op got 5 pack from braybrook…cheers!!

  • Combed T-bar for these, but no BWS has any :(

  • Found some in Palmyra, WA. A good bargain! Thanks OP!

  • +1

Bummer Wampus, I was sure there'd be some in T-bar, especially at Cliffo! I nabbed a box on the Goldy. My box had a stout. The guy behind the counter was very surprised at the price, he was going to get some when he clocked off.

  • I picked up some six packs from Preston earlier today, the one near Dundas St and Plenty Rd.

    Natural Blonde Wheat Beer
    Brewers Pilsener Lager
    Draught Bitter
    Gippsland Gold Pale Ale
    Yarra Valley Gold
    Hatlifter Stout

    Burp !!!

They still had quite a few left early in the afternoon…

  • Scanned at $8 Melbourne QV, despite the $20 sign. Get this though - the horrible cashier chick told me I couldn't have it for $8. Don't you hate sanctimonious people?

    • Wow, if it scans at that price, and it's clearly a national promotion, I'd like to hear her reasoning for not letting you buy it. I'd go back and have a chat to the manager sometime. If they're all gone by then, a good manager would offer you something similar for the same price. It's not like you were trying to rip them off, it's clearly their promotion.

    • +1

Please tell me you walked out of there with the beers in the end… (paid for obviously)

    • the horrible cashier chick told me I couldn't have it for $8.

she obviously wanted to keep it for herself…

      • She must be hungover because she wasn't around today, and I picked up a few no problems. 3 or 4 cases still there.

  • got a case :)

    thanks OP

  • Rydalmere BWS has 2 six packs left… They are sitting on the counter.. Cheers to the OP!

  • Nabbed the last one from the Albert St store in Brisbane. Great bargain! Cheers OP!

  • Just got 3 packs from the Queen st store in Brisbane. Still about 2 cartons left. Great deal, thanks OP!

    • Cheers, had a fun afternoon driving through St Patricks day traffic to get myself some of these!

All the ones at Queen st/Edward st Brisbane store are now gone (picked up the last 3 6 packs earlier today).

So are pretty much all the inner northside Brisbane stores, I did the rounds and it was bare pickings. Try north of Nundah which is as far as I got.

  • None left at Umina, NSW, 2257 nor Drivethrough store opposite

  • None left at WoyWoy , NSW, 2256 BWS.

  • Bought 2 cases, but just wondering when they expire. I cannot find an expiry date on it (bottles and box).

    • They dont expire.

There is no date on them.

  • There's 5 cases (5 packs in each case) at Roseville. I got one case. No expiry.

  • Forgot to mention: Flemington, VIC has some 6-packs left. Sign says $20.00, but scans at $8.00

  • Got the last 3 at Unley store in SA. Ticket showed $20 but scanned as $8. Thanks OP!

  • Some left at Kambah ACT
