Sony Xperia Z1 $549 at MSY

110

The Sony Z Ultra even more expensive, at $599, I would rather grab a Z1 from MSY instead. Also, this price is even cheaper than Kogan's grey import

  • wow very good price, Centrecom have the same price last year for $548 ($1 cheaper https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128947) but for this price couldnt resist

    • so did you buy one?

      • I will. plus -10% for TRS just perfect ;) watching this since jan 2014

        • Me too but the Z1 compact will be coming out next week with the same outright price as this Z1 now. Been waiting for whichever to happen first and they happened at the same time, rar! Sticking with Z1 Compact

        • Cmiiw, the diff btw 2,is the screen size, z1 with 5inch and compact with 4.3 inch. Same spec, same cpu.

Also compact with less battery power compare to z1, me myself prefer 5inch over 4.3 inch ;)

        • I guess that's just a matter of preference. I had an S3 which died and downgraded to S2 and I like that size. Not bulky.

        • You must have a hard time choosing from those new phones over 5" screen sizes.

        • the compact has an IPS screen for better viewing angles and overall brightness and because its smaller they have gone 720p with the same snapdragon 800 CPU so you will get better performance. the battery life on the compact actually winds up being better because it is physically smaller and running the lower resolution

Even if they were $1 cheaper, I'd avoid CentreScum purely on their service alone.

  • does a phone sell in Au including 2 yr warranty??

why outright Nokia offer 2 yr nokia warranty??

    • Nope not necessarily all phones come with 2 year warranty. IIRC only Nokia and Apple give 2 year warranty in Australia.
IMO it should be standard for all companies to cover mobiles for 2 years…but then again i guess they'll lose a lot of $$$

      • Samsung s4 and Note 3 both have 2 year warranty(from Dick Smith at least)

Z2 will be out soon just for people unaware..

    • Within the next 2 weeks IIRC.

  • Are these Aus stock, ie with proper warranties and not just grey imports sold from a shop?

Good price non-the-less. I had been looking at the Z1 from eGlobal for $559 w/free dock.

    • It is local Aus stock I believe. I don't recall MSY selling any grey imports.

Do not get this phone. I bought it only a few months ago and woke up one morning to find that the screen had cracked because of temperature changes. Now Sony won't fix it under warranty because the cracks radiate out from one point, which is a stupid reason because the screen feels smooth to the touch indicating no physical damage. I sincerely did nothing to it and there are many others that have had the same problems to it.

TL;DR Sony sucks, get a Nexus 5 instead

Oh yeah? My friend own it since oct 2013, no problem and he highly recommended yo me

Alright man, cool story if you regard your friend's word over mine. I just wanted to give people the heads up that some phones are likely to have a faulty screen and that Sony isn't going to claim any responsibility over it unless it satisfies certain conditions. I was cool with having a crack on the screen thinking it would still work but unfortunately it is completely unusable. Also if you were to fix it under warranty, it wouldn't be waterproof anymore which is pretty much the only reason I bought it in the first place. In any case, tell your friend to be careful with it

Nexus 5 = no expandable storage = hell nope

The screen self-cracking issue seems to affect more than just the Z1, the Z also has reports of the same issue. It really depends on likeliness of issue, and risk.

    • Agree 100% with what you said. My Z1 was in a leather flip case and cracked for no reason. Sony are being complete dicks and held on to the phone for 8 weeks before saying no warranty. I'm making daily posts on their facebook page complaining because the tech support number isn't interested and won't pass on my complaint to anyone who matters and trying to warn others of their terrible service and shitty defects.I've also lodged complaints with the oft and tio.

      Stay away!

BEWARE WITH WARRANTY. This phone is not as waterproof as it claims. The heat issue causes all sorts of problems. Cracking screen is one. The other is it makes the phone not so waterproof anymore.

If you try to get it repaired. Be ready for a long wait or get knocked back. Sony have these coming in for repair by the droves.

  • MSY update their website finally? ODIN BE PRAISED

I wouldn't do it! on Tuesday the Z1 Compact is available for $552 outright from Telstra and has an IPS panel so you get a brighter screen with better viewing angles as well as the same camera, processor, waterproofing etc

    • And 2 years warranty.
