I am sure people will give me a hard time from this, but after a number of blind taste tests among about half a dozen of my friends, I have found that Stoli has consistently ranked higher than Grey Goose. Grey Goose generally falls middle of the pack just behind Belvedere with Absolute and Tito's bringing up the rear. Just my $0.02

      really? standard normal Stolichnaya?
where does russian standard, smirnoff, ciroc rank

also is this straight? on the rocks or with mixer? or other?

      • if dak doesn't reply, I'd suggest having a look at the reviews on Dan Murphy's.

      • Smirnoff is not Russian. Hasnt been for over 100 yrs. Its made in the USA and a few other places, none of which are Russia.

You could google ciroc to find why that doesnt belong in this conversation.

Both of these are made by the same parent company.

      • Sorry for the slow reply. I was drinking them straight at room temp. probably not the best way to do it, but at least i wasn't masking the flavors with anything. Yeah, plain stoli. I was shocked. Anyways, I prefered Belvedere, but after the taste test I suppose that could have been marketing working on me.

I didn't do Smirnoff, Sky, 3 olives or Ketel one, but I have consumed all of those in the bast, and still think that based on my blind test Stoli is the best. That is just my opinion, and it is based purely on taste. That said, it also works out great price wise here.

Personally, I am no big fan of Smirnoff. No worse than absolute or any other mid-range variety, but on the rocks or in a marti I would prefer Stoli all the way.

        • tuba: thanks on tip on ciroc….grapes!!!

          belvy drinker myself
must of been scared of in my youth when i had too many ruskis, stayed away from stoli since

          must give it another crack

    • what brands did you use

      • It was standard Stoli, Absolute, and some generic cheapo purchased in OZ and Grey Goose, Belvedere, and Tito's Handmade Vodka from the US. All were plain, unflavored, drunk from standard cups, color coded by my partner so i had no idea which was which. I did it with a number of different friends. There was some variation, but by and large the results supported what I said in my OP. One of the more fun experiments I have ever designed.

      • At the cheaper end, in the Absolute price bracket, try Finlandia.
Nothing wrong with Stoli. Many confuse it with Smirnoff I think, and Smirnoff is rubbish.
