Nokia Lumia 625 - $248.00 at Dick Smith/The Good Guys or $235.60 at Officeworks

120

Apparently, this is a $50 off deal which is celebrating the release of Titanfall?

Either way, this brings a wonderfully mid-range, big screen, decent specs Windows Phone 8 down to a wonderfully low price for Australian stock and warranty.

I would have been happy to give Dick Smith my business, however they are sold out in store all across WA so I approached Officeworks (who have lots of stock) and they price matched over the phone, so it should bring it down to $235.60.

Expires tomorrow, however also on sale at The Good Guys here which may be on sale beyond tomorrow (thanks to paizuri).

Enjoy!

These phones are great, and true iPhone killers both in function and price…and you don't have to be a brainless fanboi who visits an all-white store where everyone is a 'Guru', lol.

      genius

      • Thanks for that. I know they call them something awesome but I don't use Apple gear and only once went to a iStore to see how much is was like a hospital. I think they give the staff Crystal Meth on clock-in.

      • Those "geniuses" insist one cannot sign-in with different Apple IDs on iPhones and iPads.

Genius: "Once you have signed-into your iDevice with your Apple ID, you cannot switch to another ID. This is because our devices are designed to be personal, and once registered to you the ID cannot be changed."

And this was at an Apple Store Workshop! Face palm.

  • does this work on Optus?

    • +1

Its unlocked so it works on all Carriers in OZ

    • +1

It's unlocked and supports Optus' frequencies (including 4G), so yes.

  • Important specs are
    Screen: 4.7" IPS LCD 480x800
    CPU: Dual 1.2ghz Snapdragon S4
    Storage: 8gb + MicroSD (up to 64gb)
    RAM: 512mb
    Battery: 2000 mAh (24h talk, 90h music, 7h video)
    Camera: 5mp / 0.3mp
Sensors: Accel/GPS/proximity. Does not appear to have a Compass or Gyroscope

I've seen many people complain about high end games not working on devices with 512mb RAM, OS should still be smooth though. Grabbing an imported 820 might be better value.

    • Seeing this after trying to convince myself to make the jump to Windows Phone (from a Nexus user) I think I'll just wait for the Nokia X+/XL.

      • Don't see what the neg was for.
I forgot to mention that I'd be putting some sort custom ROM on it like Cyanogenmod.
The reason I said what I said is that they're very similar priced to this (if not cheaper) and have equivalent specs (with the exception of 4G).

  • The only downside is it has only 512 MB RAM. Some games/apps may be affected.

  • my first desktop in 2005 only have 128 mb sd ram :O

    • My first PC had a 40Mb HDD.

      • My first PC didn't even have a hard disk, but 2 floppy drives, an inbuilt printer, color screen and a light pen. From my second one I still have the 10MB HDD somewhere.

  • Picked up one of these 5 days ago (brilliant device, by the way), but at Officeworks previous price of 288.

Do Officeworks have a retrospective approach to their price match policies? Would be great to get the 50 difference back…

  • How this device compares with the Samsung ATIV S? With a little bit of luck it can be get at this price: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135132 or at least under $300. Nokia is better due to apps but the ATIV S hardware looks better. Has anyone played with the two phones first hand?

My wife has the Ativ, I have a 625. Agree that Nokia has the better stock Win8 software along with vastly superior battery life, while the Ativ comes with the usual Samsung junk bloatware and standard flimsy Samsung build quality. However, the Ativ is slimmer, lighter, and has better image quality (although 625 does have better screen build quality).

Overall, the Ativ if a better buy if you can get it at this price range if you don't mind that it is 3G only. If specs and looks are important, spend up for the Nokia 925.

nice shame Win 8 doesn't have VPN support yet.. using VPN on my Android phones

  • Moto G is a device at similar price, but better hardware compared to Lumia 625, but it is Android. Depends which one you prefer.

    • Nokia phones have a much better build quality than the Moto G from my experience.
