oh btw, i remember reading somewhere on ozbargain about screen cracking due to temperature change on the Z and Z1, so it might be worth investigating further.

    • Very rare.

    • Its not just temperature change and its not "very rare" as the other poster said. My phone cracked without any temperature shock or physical misuse whilst in a flip leather case.
Have lodged a complaint with the ACCC as sony have had the phone for 9 weeks now and have only in the past few weeks come out and said they wont fix it under warranty. I suspect they are aware of the problem but the service center doesnt have the correct equipment to replace the screen and maintain the water resistance.

      • The service centre can fix it, the only thing that maintains the water resistance is essentially some adhesive strips. Sony are just dubious with the mention of screen cracking (as would any other phone manu.), it hasn't become a prevalent a problem in their eyes yet. A vocal lot on some forums isn't enough of a reason to start looking into it, a large amount of owners applying for warranty with very similar problems would be. They acknowledged the backplate of the Z/Z1 lifting and compromising the water resistance as well as the screen of the Z cracking due certain circumstances. Which is a step up over other manufacturers that have had problems.

Take the L and keep your phone around for the day were sony might acknowledge it being an issue with the design. Cracked screens are just too common - mistreated or not.

        • The heat issues is a real problem. it doesn't always result in cracking but it can carp the shape and then cause waterproofing issues.

This is a common problem and has affected 4 out of 6 phones within my friends albeit all the original Xperia. Interesting to note the Xperia Z1 compact has plastic backing - not sure if this is downgrade or a 'fix'.

And, not the service centre cannot fix, they have to outsoruce to another company and that took more than 6 weeks with no response after I followed up numerous times!

why are all the shoppingexpress deals for white? headphones, phones, bathroom scales….only the white are on sale, the black at normal price. is it just because the whites don't move as fast?

My experia z has cracked on its own twice. The first time I was told physical damage. I bit the bullet and paid $250 for the repair, I noticed at that stage that the water indicator had gone purple even though I havent had it under water, Only listenED to music in the bathroom. 6 months later I was using Google maps gps, phone got quite warm. Took it out of my pocket and another cracked screen. I havent even bothered to send this in as I know the drill. Sony wont acknowedge the issue. And the repair centre will charge me at least $40 just to look at it.

I went to a phone repair centre and he told me by far this phone has more cracked screens per ratio than any other phone. He puts it down to a design faut with the battery expanding and the slighets warp of the phone causes the cracked screen.

  • Great info Noelpnc! Did a bit of research and didn't find much, but having handled the Z phones they do feel like they wouldn't handle day to day life very well!

  • Deal expired

  • Who else is waiting on Z1 compact deals?
