  • Is this just a handlebar-mount / case and some software?
Is there an ANT wheel sensor included? Not clear.

Ensures ride data is saved, even when the iBike app is interrupted by phone calls or other apps.

What a shame IOS does not allow apps to multitask.

  • Not sure why I'd go for this over a $10 bike mount for iPhone and free Strava app…? What benefit does it offer? Does it connect with a wheel-mounted sensor, or just GPS?

  • Looks like it's essentially $30 for just an iPhone case as the app is free on iTunes and is similar to other free apps.
I can't believe anyone would have paid the original price of $199 though.

  • +1

$200 for a plastic bike mount for your phone?!?! hahahahahahah yeah right.

May as well say it was $1,000,000, and you're getting a 99.997% discount 'down' to $30.
    Gimmie a break.

No deal because overinflated 'original price'.
No deal because you can get other phone holders online for $10.
    Neg and then some.

  • I looked at these a while back while I had my old iPhone 3GS. It has an ANT receiver built into the case, so when you dock your iPhone to it, it lets you connect ANT sensors to your phone. My recollection was that it only worked with the associated app and not other apps that support ANT sensors, which was a showstopper for me as I'm a devoted fan of Runmeter for iOS. If you're happy with the stock app, it's a cheap way to get into support for ANT sensors, particularly if you already own ANT sensors and want a good housing for your phone.

It's a solid housing for the money. A $10 housing won't be built anywhere near as well. The build quality reviews of this thing are very good. If you're mounting a $600+ phone on a bike, especially if you're thinking of sticking it on a mountain bike, paying a bit more for a solid housing is a no brainer to me.

I opted instead to get bluetooth 4.0 sensors instead to use with my new iPhone 5, which supports them without additional dongles. Much neater way to go, in my view. I reckon ANT is a dead technology unless phones start natively supporting it and that isn't going to happen with the low power bluetooth 4.0.
