NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE FULL GAME, IT'S AN ADD-ON FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY HAVE BATTLEFIELD 4

For quite a while I've been searching for a price drop on BF4 Premium from a (semi)-official distributor. Not judging here, but I'm personally not so keen on CD key sites, nor on the Mexico Origin store VPN trick.

Stock is available online-only but the item is a physical thing (I assume just a thin box with a printed activation code inside it?) so you can either click and collect instore for free, or get it shipped to you. Shipping is free if your order is over $50 - I ordered one for me and one for a mate to get the free shipping. Ordered yesterday and already got the 'shipped' confirmation in the evening - ETA 1st-3rd April (it's just regular Aus Post I think).

At this price it's actually cheaper than the US!

Originally saw this deal on http://comparegames.com.au/ so props to those guys.

What an awesome way to make you pay twice for a game…..

    • this is why you buy the digital deluxe version from mexico for $75AUD total

      • How safe is it to buy from Mexico using the VPN method? Are they going to phish your CC details/account details afterward or worst case install a trojan on my PC while I am doing the purchase? Thanks

        • Very safe.
          1) You turn off the VPN before payment, so the VPN provider never see your (encrypted anyway) payment.
          2) Hola is a trusted Chrome plugin (if your using them)

I have to say, I did have mixed feelings about the whole 'premium' model, which is why I'd made a personal rule not to buy it at the full-price $59. Although it's a pretty small gesture, I didn't want to send the message to EA that it's cool to run things this way.

In the end, though, I enjoy playing BF4, I have a buddy that I play with regularly, and we want to move on to check out the newer maps before the new wave of online shooters takes all the players away and the servers go empty. So even though I don't really like some aspects of the situation, it's still worth $48 to me.

$50 gets free shipping so add some thing worth $2 to the cart an as extra if you want to avoid the $5 shipping fee for only $2 extra. Save $3 in that case. Maybe two of these rulers for $1 each would do it.

    • Yeah, or click and collect (I think that's free??) if you're happy to pick up in-store. I was buying 2 copies anyway so shipping was a no-brainer for me.

  • Here is the big question. If you have battlefield US version will this add on work?

    • Yes it will work as the BF4 premium is activatible world wide no matter where it's bought from. I activated a Battlefield 4 Premium bought from the UK over a Battlefield 4 base game bought from Amazon US. No worries.

    • yes

  • EA can kiss my premium ass. I have the base game, that's enough.

    • your gunna miss out on the naval assault
      its guns be gud

      • Yes the base game is only a small part of the total experience.

Id rather pay $33 from origin mexico
    its faster cheaper and easier.

    • That's cool - like I said, I'm not judging here - I just decided it's not for me. I figure there's some small risk EA will detect that stuff and punish and for me it's not worth the $15 saving.

In general though, I do hate the geoblocking crap, so good luck to you :)

      • It's not ilegal to go around geo blocking.

        • I agree with you… which is why I didn't say it was illegal :)

In many cases, I fully support circumventing geoblocking bullshit.

In this case though, regardless of legality, it's still against the EA/Origin terms of service, and I figure if you're buying direct from their store, they can easily track the fact you bought from the storefront outside your country. What they do with that information I don't know, but they COULD punish you in some way, which I don't really care to take the risk on, however slim that risk may be.

Hope it works out for you (I'm pretty sure it will), I just decided not to go that way.

        • Nah i think ill buy titan fall for 8 dollars more lol

        • It does look pretty sweet! I still like the larger player counts in BF4 so sticking with it for now unless all my buddies start playing Titanfall regularly.

        • Ill probaly pick up Bf4 premium and the season pass for Titanfall in a week when i hoave some more money to spare.

        • But it can be against an EULA which can result in an account ban. Even Green Man Gaming has it in their T&C that using a VPN/Proxy may result in a ban. I believe Steam also has a similar term in their subscriber agreement. It's not a crime but it's a violation of the user agreement.

        • @hollykryten Yep that's basically what I was trying to say in my comment above. I don't feel like taking the risk my BF soldier stats will be wiped, or possibly even my whole Origin account shut down. Not saying it'll happen, just that EA/Origin reserve the right to do that and I don't want to test them out on that.

Third parties like GMG I'm slightly less worried about (wrongly or rightly) because of the extra degree of separation, but when you're buying directly from Origin's own store via VPN I think it's pretty obvious to them what you're doing. Whether they're watching or caring is a question that's tough to answer.

        • Who's to say you haven't taken your laptop on holidays and are actually in Mexico when you make the purchase?

        • @PainToad The Origin store's web logs showing that immediately after you've added a game to your cart in Mexico, you switched back to Australia in less time than it takes to fly home :)

To be clear, I think geoblocking is an incredibly flawed model. There are so many cases (along the lines of what you've described) in which it doesn't make sense.

I'm just recognising that EA/Origin reserve the right to pretty much do whatever they want with your account, because it's in their EULA - and most people aren't going to attempt legal action when punished, because it's not worth the time and hassle.

That's exactly what I did. Quick trip to Mexico and back took around 8 minutes all up :)

        • @DJ and may I be the first to congratulate you on your new world speed record :)

        • whos to say your not in mexico and useing one of those programs that allow you to controll your home desktop threw a computer in mexico to actuly download the game.

btw i havent heard of anyone getting banned on Ozbargain from useing a vpn for this purpose.

    • Is it safe to buy from Mexico? Has anyone got scammed doing it?

      • It's not really buying "from" Mexico - it's just making you look like you're browsing from Mexico, so that Origin will give you Mexican prices for their stuff. It's still the official Origin store, so that side of things should be safe.

See a comment further above about turning off your VPN before you put in payment details, to prevent your VPN provider from handling that stuff. Probably good advice.

        • What VPN service do you use? Thanks.

        • You're buying off a server in Mexico therefore you're buying the game from Mexico.

        • I'm trying to get premium for the PS4 however on the store it says "Download to PC
          Standard Edition" ???

        • Who says your buying from a server in Mexico? There's no reason why Origin wouldn't just use the same server farm for all regions. The price difference would just be set programmatically based on the ip region.

  • Any thoughts on how to get a cheap premium for PS4!?!?!?!?

  • If you don't want to VPN or risk your account, I have a key for Battlefield 4 PC for sale - I bought a copy for my brother for Christmas from Amazon, but he'd gone and bought a physical copy and activated it already. I'm after $35 paypal. thank you.

  • Proxy/VPN is still less than half of this.
