  • whats with so many dicksmith deals? are they still owned by woolies?

    • To move stock.

      No.

      • ok fair enough..

      • Their new CEO said something about new strategy of having alot more regular bargain sales

i thought it was just marketing bs

turned out he was true to his word

    • They were bought by PE, and listed through IPO at end of 2013

      • +3

On 4 December 2013, Dick Smith became a public company, ASX code: DSH. Formerly it was 98% owned by private equity firm Anchorage Capital Partners (the remaining 2% was owned by some board members and senior management) which acquired it on 26 November 2012, from Woolworths Limited, which owned it from 1982 until the end of November 2012. Founder Dick Smith takes no part in the running of the company.

It's the end of the retail quarter, DSE especially have deals leading up to the end of the 3 month cycle to get the sales up. Retail quarter - 1st and 2nd months 4 weeks, 3rd month 5 weeks (4,4,5), so 13 weeks. Going on DSE history there should be more deals to be had from them between now and 11.59pm Sunday night…

This coming Sunday will be exactly 13 weeks since the famous 10% off online orders the last Sunday of the Boxing Day sale (29/12/13) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128782

Then there were weekend deals exactly 13 weeks before the 29/12/13 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117765 as well as this deal flyer in stores on the same weekend - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/118012

TV's are in runout mode, and should our favourite electrical retailers (and other forms of retail) be running their sales targets to the same quarters, then there should be similar deals to come from JB's, Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Bing Lee etc before the weekend is done.

      • wow can you like, create a wiki entry with dates when we can expect sales lol

  • +1

They are not owned by woolies anymore

    • Don't people remember the highly infamous DSE Gaming Clearance sale of 2012? That was solely because Woolies decided in January, 2012 to close 100 DSE branches and sell the business altogether due to rather lagging sales performance.

      • +1

It was a great sale for the DSE staff, they cleaned up

        • who cares it was all last gen crap anyway

  • I was 36 seconds too slow. Telstra sims are half price which ends today, but I think that's just another promotion.

    • Keep an eye out on Boost SIMs!

    • i try to buy the telstra sim, but the code not valid.

      • I found the code worked on the micro sim.

Is it just me or does it seem like Dick Smiths wants to be bought out so they are boosting their sales even if it means breaking even or losing money?

    • +1

they already got bought out by Anchorage Capital Partners they sort of specialise in turning companies around, so the reason for DSE good sales would be either operate a at or close to as possible to your cost prices to create brand awareness and drive people into stores/online again, plus clear out any old unwanted lines that literally just sit on shelves costing the company money in stock that doesnt move

      • +2

I'd love if they drove me instore, but click and collect isn't available with this code.

    • DSE is a tragedy waiting to happen ….. but it looks better if cash flow is good even if profit is low. Take advantage while you can.

  • Hmm. What if I use SAVEME100?

    • +35

You get slapped in the face.

      • hahaha…

    Availability:Temporarily out of stock

until the sale ends on a lot of phones etc

    • +6

Basically anything that isn't at least 20% overpriced.

Would recommend pricematching a PS4/Xbox one at another store and saying "look at the banner, it's 11% off", thereby stacking it with the existing 10% off price.

    • +2

The offer excludes "Gaming Consoles, Gaming Software, Gaming Accessories".

      • Obviously. The point was that they have to bother to read the T&C, and the banner appears on the same page as the consoles without showing any exclusions until you actually try to complete checkout or browse around a bit. Why not try use that to your advantage and hope they don't look during a pricematch?

  • I just want a Apple SuperDrive and I cant get any discounts on it :(

  • Like clockwork lol

  • +6

And presto all good stuff is out of stock

  • +1

Excludes Apple and Amazon Kindle branded products, Prepaid Mobile Phones, Gift Cards, Gaming Consoles, Gaming Software, Gaming Accessories, and selected advertised lines (XC9233, XC9120, GE6820, GE3554, S4476WEB, XM1465, YG10191, L9596).

    -_-

    • +26

Excludes anything you might actually want, but feel free to save 11% on a $29.95 USB cable.

  • With the public listing at end of last year, my guess is that DSE is really pushing hard to up the revenue at the expense of margin so they can book a good first year of reporting. So we can expect more sales more regularly with the big one being the EOFY sale.

  • any good bargain?

    • +3

Depends on what you want and how much you are prepared to pay. Have a look, you have the same access as the rest of us.

  • Is Note 10.1 2014 a bargain at $482 after 11% off and $50 cashback?

I think you are mentioning the 1st Gen Note 10.1?

        • No, the sale was for the 2014 version. This was with the Ebay TGG 30% off coupon (capped at $100).

        • :(

  • Thinking of buying a new 40" TV - is this Samsung a good deal?

    • Thinking of getting the same.

However when i add it to my cart, it appears in the click & collect column and cannot move it to home delivery.

The net result is im unable to purchase it.

      • This has happened to me every time I have gone to buy one of these on the DSE deal!

EDIT: also the same TV has a different price in the catalogue: http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/led-televisions/samsung-40-101…

        • Interesting, that works out to the same price. Just need to find it in stock.

      • Yep, I'm getting the same issue.

Plus, all the click and collect locations appear not to have stock? I tried several store locations before giving up

  • Glad it dont work with xbox one bundle! I am nintendo guy and have maybe 50 3ds/wii u games left to play plus my last gen backlogs. Bought PS4 last Dick Smith sale and would have done it again lol. I promised my self no ps4/Xbone until there were at least 5 games I wanted. Oops!
