Unless you're storing more than 1TB in the cloud, Google Drive looks like a better deal at $120 per year.

Edit: I notice that SpiderOak actually wrote a blog post a few years ago detailing why Unlimited storage plans are not a viable business model.

    https://spideroak.com/blog/20110202135038-whaaaat-unlimited-…

Does this means they are now building an unviable business?

  • Any advantage for this over something like Crashplan? Even with their Australian pricing it's $70 AUD / year for unlimited. If you use a proxy you can get 4 years for $190 USD ($47.50 USD per year).

Edit: Just noticed it's 20% cheaper again due to backup day.

    • To be fair, that Crashplan service is only for 1 device. 2-10 devices on Crashplan is A$165.

Spideroak claim it's truly unlimited — storage and number of devices — so you could back up family members data as well.

      • 2-10 devices is $165 minus 20%, making it $132 (less than the $125 USD of SpiderOak), and if you use a proxy you could pay $107.5 USD per year, minus 20% for $86 USD.

      • The basic plan is only for one device, but you can back up other devices to that one device. making it cheaper and also getting a local backup.

Another benefit of crashplan is that they can send you a hard drive (for a cost) to either seed your backup or to restore quickly.

  • Spideroak is a fantastic service particularly for those who are security and privacy concerned. Good price for a premium service IMO

  • Thanks OP I bought it. If it encrypts as it says it's worth the money.
