Brother JS1400 Sewing Machine $99 at Myer (down from $249)

140

This is the same sewing machine that was on special at Target a couple of times recently. It is a reasonably well-regarded machine, certainly better than the cheap Singer which Aldi is trying to offload this week for the same price.

Normal Target special price is $99 as well, so $249 does seem a bit rich in the circumstances. Still that's neither here nor there as long as the price is $99.

Some reviews from Target. People do seem relatively happy with it:-

Perfect , decided yesterday I need to buy one but didnt want to spend more than 200, getting pants hemmed is costly (im a short ass and know how to use a sewing machine)

What's Target's price match policy like?
Ive a Target 5 min walk from me , Dont't know if I will make it Myer before 17:30.

same with me mate… paying the asian lady to do hemms for $15-20 each pair of pants, or learn to do it myself for much cheaper (and more satisfaction knowing I can do it).

For those still not sure, You Tube is a great teaching aid. Learn what the different dials and settings do, to get a great job and you'll be a seamstress in no time!

Just make sure you set yourself up with a sewing kit as well… you'll need it in conjunction with the sewing machine.

Either kit yourself up at Spotlight, or Ebay yourself a kit from China for cheaper (but obviously takes longer).

But stick with good quality thread from Spotlight.
The cheap stuff breaks too easily… and that can be a real pain with having to reset the machine every time.

Thanks for the info! Was looking at the one at Aldi this week for $99.99 but have just bought this one instead (at least this one had some reviews to look at!)

    Thank You bought one

  • For someone with essentially no experience, would this be adequate for learning to repair clothing and some luggage?

    • This is really easy and friendly to learn but I doubt it will do luggage. I knew nothing about sewing but after a few videos from YouTube I managed to sew a jammer type of swim cosy for my son. Highly recommended for beginners that only need for occasional use.

  • Is it sturdy enough to do hems on denim jeans?

    • I feel that it could at a pinch. However, the bits near the leg seam where the needle has to punch through three layers of denim would be touch and go if you are using heavy denim.

  • Just used a soon to be expired gift card. Thanks OP.
