User-Submitted Referral Code/Link Requests & Updates

Original Post

This morning we pushed out a new user-submitted referral changes. This is an update to the previous attempt in 2012. Problem with the previous one is that it's difficult to add new stores that support referral benefits, and the feature ended up only supporting GreenManGaming and not being used much by our users here. What happened afterwards were wiki pages created for each online shop. Yes it's an interesting use of the wiki pages, but

  • Not a good idea to let any member to be able to edit everyone's code.
  • Free-form might not be the most ideal format, and hard to police everyone to edit in the same format.
  • The list is ordered rather than randomised.

What we have done now is having a single place for you to put in all your referral codes. Go to your Settings page and click on the referrals tab. You should be presented with a list of "stores" that we currently have referral support. For the comprehensive list of stores / products supported, please go to the referral wiki page.

New ones should be easily added as well if the method of referral is via a referral link (i.e. unique URL per referrer). Feel free to submit new ones in the comments. I need

  • The URL format for the referral link
  • Instructions to get the referral link
  • Benefit for the referrers and referees.

Another reminder that Affiliate Links and Referral Links are different and we do not allow affiliate links here on OzBargain.

Once a referral system has been set up for that domain, for every deal posted to that domain, a grey box will appear below the content and above the Share buttons containing a randomised referral link AND OP's referral link (if OP has submitted one for that domain and the deal has hit the front page vote minimum - updated 9/5/16). The benefits for the referrers and referees are also shown so people know what they (and you) are getting. For example this Amaysim offer I submitted. In this case including your own referral link and link to wiki becomes redundant.

Yes this is still in beta and needs improvement. Some potential issues / possible improvements:

  • Since you do not really need to put referral link in your content, you can submit deals with your link in the referral box without the deal being marked as "referral post". This might lead to abuse of people posting excessive deals from the stores offering referral. I shall look at ways to prevent it. I don't want to mark them as referral post at the moment because previously submitter can pick and choose whether to include his/her referral link. Now it's always included. 9/5/16 Update: Your deal must hit the front page vote minimum (currently 30) to show. This was previously 5, before being changed to the front page vote minimum.

  • Referral-code / coupon-code type referrals are not yet supported. For example Budget Direct, Rabobank, etc. We can potentially generate a popup containing the code when people click on "OP" or "random".

  • A good idea to let people pick and choose? For example some people might not want to use OP's referral link, not a random one either but from a list of friends.

So here it is. Give it a try guys! I will start removing some of the wiki pages later today. Meanwhile, please leave feedback in the comments.

If your comment is automatically unpublished due to the referral link, do not worry, moderators can still see it and will republish it before replying.

  • Could you please add the Real-Debrid referral program?

They offer an extra 5 days to your plan + 50 Fidelity Points per referral.

    Referral link format is:
    http://real-debrid.com/?id=XXXXXXXX

      • Legend! Thanks.

        • Can I confirm is the benefit for both the referrer and referee?

          • @neil: I assume it's only the referrer. The details are slim as it only states: "One affiliate = 5 Days + 50 Fidelity Points" and nothing else.

  • Hello, can you please create a referral for Voltx Energy. They are offering $200 for both referrer and referee. It will need to be a private message referral as they don’t do codes

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/915675

    Thank you

  • Hello, could we create a referral for https://iif.today/ ? They offer a $20 credit per referral for both the referrer and referee. Thank you!

  • Hi
I can’t add my Dashlane referral it is saying the format is incorrect?

    https://www.dashlane.com/en/im/N7s1dFjziPPM

    Thanks

  • The referral page for Lumo Energy on Ozbargain says

You must be a customer for longer than 30 days.

However, when you click the link, the Lumo Energy page does not say this, and it provides a link perfectly fine. I have been a customer for less than one day.

    • Updated

  • +1

These links are only valid for 14 days. When I tried to use one of the referral links earlier in the week I had to click through around 30 links till I found a good one.
For the benefit of the new customer, they need to auto expire after 14 days, rather than just a reminder to update.

    • Sorry, which store are your referring to?

  • Hi. Could you please add the Neptune referral program?

Neptune offer $25 for referrer and $25 for referee.

    Referral link format is:
    https://www.neptune.net.au/?couponCode=xxxxxx

    Thanks heaps!

    • According to Neptune's terms they don't allow it :(

Promoting your referral code on any public forum or platform (such as Whirlpool or OzBargain) is prohibited.

I have spoken to Murry and he is discussing it with the team, hopefully they will allow it.

        • Awesome news hopefully they do :)

          • @hailstorm: Terms now updated so we may add Neptune internet to the Ozbargain referral system.

            Anything else mods need?

      • Much appreciated.

  • Hi team,
I notice there's no referral process in OzB for Bicycle NSW, who do have a 25% discount for referee and referrer:
    https://bicyclensw.org.au/bicycle-nsw-refer-a-friend

    • What does the referral code look like? coupon or link?

      • It's a discount code

  • What is the reason being Tangerine referral links as PMs instead of just the code? The code is given during sign-up and doesn't change. Maybe that can be changed? Then new OZBers doing sign-ups can get the code straight away and finalise their NBN order instead of waiting first

    • See the last comment:

Referral codes that are posted online will be de-activated and will not work. This is clearly stated in the terms and conditions provided when a referral code is provided to a valid customer.

      -Tangerine Rep

  • Pet Circle have a new website, they now provide just a code instead of a link. Previous link format doesn't seem to work anymore.

    • Updated. Seems the codes are the same as the previous one in the URL.

  • Thanks for adding the referral link slot for Neptune Internet. When I entered my referral link (copy and paste from the Neptune portal), I got the following pop-up message: Error: Verification error - wrong format. I'm positive that I'm using the correct format. I also tried to enter the link manually rather than copy and paste, with the same result.

    • Fixed.

      • Thank you! I can confirm it works now.

  • I tried all the Sumo Energy codes and none of them work. I am suspecting they don't work because they are either cancelled by sumo for being publicly list or the are too old.

Can all the codes be removed?

Maybe change it to message request instead?

    • There appear to only be 2 codes in the system which leads me to believe they no longer run a referral system. Have disabled.

SUMO200 appears to take off $50 off months 1, 4, 7 and 10. Much better deal. Also, Topcashback appears to be offering $50 cashback.

      • Thanks for sharing those deals, although the SUMO200 offer is only for VIC customers.

Pleasea don't disable it. They are still running a referral system, i'm just reporting the fact that the codes don't work or might be disabled due to them listed online. So I was suggesting to use messaging for codes instead.

You can receive up to $250 in bill credits by referring 5 friends ($50 each) to Sumo, so they can benefit from our competitive plans and local support.
        https://www.sumo.com.au/refer-a-friend

        • OK, well someone can request we add it again when there is an active code. No point leaving a system open that doesn't work for anyone.

  • Hello having some issues with adding referral link for Navexa. Says the format is invalid despite pasting referral link with the same format

    • Are you including the https://?

  • Apologies for the previous post.

I think Pineapple Net has changed the referral template. The one they generated for me now is in a format:

    https://signup.pineapple.net.au?referralCode={Referral Code}

This code cannot be saved on OzB referral page because the expected template contains an extra "/":

    https://signup.pineapple.net.au/?referralCode={Referral Code}

Could someone please have a look?

    Cheers,

    • Updated.

    • Many thanks, it's working now!

  • OVO Energy referral link appears not to be accepted:

    www.ovoenergy.com.au/refer/{name}

    • https:// part of the url must be included.

      https://www.ovoenergy.com.au/refer/EXAMPLE123

  • Seems like shopback have changed their referral link format. Where to report it ?

    • It doesn't appear to have changed. Please ensure you have followed the instructions provided as Shopback has an unusual referral system that requires extra steps by users.

  • Gemini Space Station's referral link format is https://exchange.gemini.com/register?referral={Referral Code}&type=referral

    • Updated.

  • Hi,

Regarding the referral description on this deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/915675

The current wording might suggest that anyone can refer and that all submissions through the form qualify for the $200 cashback. That's not accurate, the $200 discount is only valid if the referee uses a unique referral link from an existing, fully paid VoltX Neovolt customer. The page URL being shared is not intended for public access (our tech team have updated it to 'noindex')

Could you please update the referral description to the following:

Referee gets $200 off a Neovolt home battery system when using a unique referral link from an existing customer. Referrer (must be a fully paid Neovolt customer) gets $200 cashback once the referee installs their system.

    Thanks for your help.

    David

    • I have updated the description.

      • Thank you kindly,

        David

  • Can we add a second stream of referral for Kraken as this deal is still running:
Bonus A$100 in BTC Each for Referrer & Referee after Referee Trades A$200 in Crypto within 30 Days @ Kraken (App Required)
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/907924

Current referral stream is for "Referrer and referee each receive A$50 BTC after referee trades A$200 of crypto in the App within 30 days."

People are commenting in the post requesting the original referral link ($100)

    • Hi,

I've added a seperate pool for the $100 bonus.

    • I cant figure out how to generate one of these $100 links

      • You needed to have your original link from when the promotion was advertised.

All the links now are from the OG promo but still work.

  • Vitable referral link has changed and now has 'get' at the start; e.g: https://get.vitable.com.au?ref=294681OO
Can you please change format? Reward still the same

    • Vitable Updated.

      • Thank you but still saying wrong format?

        • Is the link .com.au/?ref OR .com.au? So with or without the front slash?

I note there is no front slash when looking at the URL but when copy/pasting a front slash is added.

          • @neil: In my account profile it is shown without the slash but could be an error on their part. I have added it successfully now. Thank you

  • We have to request that the referral section be removed from the post altogether:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/915675

The URL being shared is not valid for public access. It has since been moved.

The post was giving a false impression that there’s an easy extra $200 discount available, which isn’t the case. Our referral system is a very targeted offer and isn’t open to general submissions.

    • We are not collecting the URLs, referrals are by PM only and the user who gives out the URL can decide whether or not they wish to refer.

We won't be disabling the randomized referral so long as the referral program is active, referral requests would otherwise happen in the comments of deals, which we want to avoid. Thanks

      • Thanks for your response and completely understand regarding sharing of referral URLs.

Just to clarify, our referral program required users to have a fully installed system to qualify. The referral page clearly outlined these terms, but since it was only intended for eligible users, those details were often missed when the link was later shared on Ozbargain publicly.

That link (https://voltxenergy.com.au/pages/referral?) has now been disabled, the campaign is closed, and we're not accepting any referrals at this time.

Given this, could we please request the removal of the referral section from the post to avoid further confusion?

Appreciate your time and help on this.

        • Its been disabled now.

  • SiteGround webhosting and email marketing.

The URL format for the referral link: https://www.siteground.com/?referrer_id=8285681

Instructions to get the referral link: Copy your unique referral code from the Referrals Program Tab when logged in to your account.

Benefit for the referrers and referees: You get up to 3 mo FREE hosting for every referral and they get exclusive discounts. Invite your friends to sign up for our top-quality hosting via your unique referral link and let them unlock an amazing offer:

Up to 80% off premium hosting

    FREE domain for new projects

FREE website transfer for a hassle-free migration from another host

    • Added SiteGround

    • @MITM Please add your link into the system as it is currently sitting empty.

        Done- thnx Neil

  • Rollie Nation code keeps coming up with an error when you cut and paste it from the website. "Please enter full referral link without the ?smile_ref part". Link still wont woth after removing that bit. Thanks!

  • Looking to add the Unraid Ambassador program. There are generally no benefits for the referee but the referrer receives a 10% commission payable once their balance reaches $100.

The referral code for the referral link is editable and can be used with any page on unraid.net by adding the referral link to the via parameter. (like https://unraid.net/pricing?via=EXAMPLE).

Here are the terms and conditions. https://affiliates.unraid.net/terms

    • This appears to be an affiliate program rather than a referral so we won't be adding to our system.

  • I can't get the random referral generator to work for Adore Beauty. Would anybody have one I could use please? TIA

    • I think the refer a friend for Adore Beauty may not be currently working. I just checked the website and it says " $20 refer a friend reward (returning soon!)".

      • Thank you - that could be why!

      • Have disabled Adore Beauty for now.

  • Binance appears to use a different format for their referrals now - at least for the code they gave me from the app:

    https://www.binance.com/referral/earn-together/refer-in-hotsummer/claim?hl=en&ref=insert referral code here

    • Our referral pool appears to have entries that still use the older URL format

did you receive any emails regarding this promotion? Any terms / conditions? What's the bonus for referee / referrer?

      • Ah yes - there's now three options for referrals in the app, and this code is part of an "Earn Together This Summer" promotion, not the regular referrals. Could be useful to add this as another referral category though.

  • Also - Jimmy Brings has been incorporated into MILKRUN now, and I don't believe it's around anymore - referrals can probably be removed for them.

    • Disabled

Merged from Amber - Referral Formatting Changed

The formatting for the referral for Amber has changed, so I’m unable to update my referral setting.

It looks like they’re now using a standard link and asking people to enter their referral code. As such, the settings in Ozbargain will need to be updated to ask us to provide our referral code rather than a link.

    The new standard link is:
    https://link.amber.app/referral

This is the link I’m given from the app when trying to make a referral.

Sorry if I’m supposed to advise of changes like this somewhere else.

    • Changed to code, expired all referrals and notified users.

  • Hi Rep,

I cant seem to add my referral to Roamic - its https://roamic.com?ad_id=cTlWOhPLA7 but kept giving me an error

  • https://www.passport.travel just launched in Australia and has a referral system

    • Benefits? URL/Code?

  • Hi, I cannot add the following referral code for Hostinger
    https://hostinger.com?REFERRALCODE=STJOMADBE6JM

It says the referral code format is incorrect

    • I've tested your link and don't see an issue with it. Try again?

      • I have tried again. It is the same issue. It says "Validation error - wrong format"

        • OK I see the issue.

          The link you pasted is.com?REFERRALCODE=

If I copy it, it links to .com/?REFERRALCODE=

So adds an extra slash which is what our system looks for. Anyway, I've changed it so it accepts both now.

          • @neil: Thank you, it worked
