This is the direct link: http://www.aimersoft.com/pdf-password-remover.html

Looks like the OP link is some sort of blog advertising it.

    • Thanks for that.

The question is, what else does it install?

For those of us who only unlock 1 or 2 pdfs a month, or those who don't want to install software, I use this website for my free pdf unlocking: http://www.pdfunlock.com/

giving a "protected" pdf file to a web sever will post a significant risk (surely someone can't be trusted will review the content at some stage), avoid where possible!

      • Most of the time you need to remove protection from pdf forms to fill them or to extract a couple of pages from a book.

You are overreacting. The whole world isn't out to steal your money and track every little bit of information you have… just Facebook :)

      • There is a reason why you want to remove the password restriction and that is "It is not your file" and you want to remove the restriction to suit your purpose. i.e. Application Form on immigration departnement website have restriction to edit to may be not ability to save them.

    • I was about to suggest the same thing.

Does anyone know how restricted this "free version" is? Under the paid "lifetime free upgrade" (which this version excludes), they list "Remove copying, printing and editing restriction". To me that implies that this free version is limited in capability.

    • Got this pop up: "Only $3.95 for lifetime free upgrade."

Just to clarify, you still need to know the actual password if the PDF is password protected, right? I just tried the Mac version and the online 3-step tutorial suggests I still need the "Open Password" if one is required, and seems to be the same when I tried a password locked file.

ie if I forgot the password, I still won't be able to read the PDF with this?

Correct. After I realised this, I've decided this program is rather useless and wonder where the benefit of paying for it would've been. Only positive I can see is it can do batch processing but not going to help you if you don't remember the password!

    • I just used this in my Digital Forensics assignment for PDF password removal and It does remove the password of the PDF completely. So you would be able to read the PDF, if you had forgotten your password.

    • you don;'t need a password, hence the name 'password remover'. If you download the program, drag and drop the PDF into the program window, convert, open it and save (onto your desktop to make it easier), then you'll find theres no security settings. I just tried it on my mac

      • Didn't work for me. Found out there is a difference between requiring a password to open a document rather than to print, copy etc.

The app worked for the latter, not the former.

  • I haven't looked at this software, but last time I had a password protected file, there were two levels of encryption. The default older style in some Acrobat versions had a crypto flaw so was easily craackable, the newer version was much more secure and needed to be brute forced, which was a multi-day/week operation depending on the password complexity.
I think it is likely this software only handles the first type.

If you are a fan of DIY, you can do it yourself using ghostscript; ghostscript is free. No need to pay for "Get lifetime free upgrade for $3.95 (80% OFF) ". Google "Remove PDF password Ghostscript drag drop".

It doesn't do what it says it does. You still need to know the password.

Sigh- brute force it is then

  • This is sockpuppeting (link to proof)

    Neg from me.

  • still has 5 hours to go?
