Bought Seagate 4TB from MSY around 6 weeks ago for $195.
Would like if the prices come down more!
BTW, after formatting 4TB, you will only get 3.63TB. That is what is showing on my Win 7 machine.

  • 4TB need to come down more I say!

$135 for 3TB is much better value (Price from Computer Alliance ) then
    $196 for 4TB

quick search on staticice shows this price is pretty ordinary

    $2 saving from MSY… Meh.

    How about some Hitachi specials.

The external version was going for ~$165 AUD shipped from Amazon and for $155 in-store at TGG before that.

I would pass on this; a better price should come by soon.

  • Seagate warranty was comparatively crap last time I looked.

    • -3

It is. There drives die far more often than another manufactor.

      • -3

Yep. Got a stack of wd drives that are still going. Seagates seem to die too quick.

      • What do you base this on? Reliability figures are readily available online so please post the figures on which you base your comment because everything that I see is that Seagate are generally the most reliable.

An example, data from Backblaze on hard disk reliability: http://blog.backblaze.com/2014/01/21/what-hard-drive-should-…

In general, Seagate are least reliable but it is worth noting that their current favourite is the Seagate 4TB.

I'm interested in reading where you get the idea Seagate are the most reliable.

        • That's what I was going to link lol.

WD manufacturer warranty also crap as you have to send the drive to Malaysia for repair!

    • +1

How? Seagate warranty involves posting to an address in Sydney and the whole warranty process is performed online assuming you can't return it to the retailer.

Western Digital require you to send it overseas for warranty replacement if you can't return it to the retailer.

So how is their warranty crap?

Still not ready sadly. I think I paid $150 for 3TB disks nearly 18 months ago. Price movement has been slow.
Since I need to replace all 6 disks in my little server, I'm waiting for a 5TB for under $200 :( gonna be a while.

    • OT, but, I have 1.5TB of data… so I'm waiting til I can get 2 * 3TB SSDs for under $500 and then I'll Raid them…. I think I'll be waiting a big longer than you :(

      • I don't see why you would need SSD's - what kind of media is on them? Please don't say MP3's, Porn, Movies and TV - SSD's are for your OS, Apps and Games - not storage.

    • Yea I know what you mean. I've been watching the MSY prices for a while now. It's pretty much the same the past 8 months :(
