This forum topic will contain announcements from the team about any issues that are occuring for the OzBargain website and/or related services.

  • Please note that while Cloudflare Under Attack mode is on and challenges (i.e security checks) are being sent on your web browser, there may be a few situations that can cause your browser to fail the challenge repeatedly and then subsequently getting banned.

    • Challenges are not supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer. How to fix: We recommend using a modern web browser such as Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or anything that runs on modern Chromium.

    • Challenges are not supported for desktop mode on mobile browsers or mobile mode on desktop browsers. How to fix: Use the mobile site, if you're using a mobile phone.

If you're using an iPad or Android tablet or some other large-screen mobile device with a high display resolution that commonly defaults to desktop sites, you may need to explicitly request the mobile version of our website to pass these challenges. On the bottom of every Ozbargain page there's also a toggle to change between mobile and desktop site.

    • If you have browser extensions, they might lead to unpassable challenge loops. To fix, disable your extensions and reload the page. This behavior commonly occurs because an extension modifies your browser’s default User-Agent value.
    • FYI you can use desktop view if enter first via mobile view, then change view once opened to desktop. On Chrome on mobile.

  • There was a performance issue between 7:45PM to 8:25PM AEST on Sunday 25 May 2014.

Front page took 15-20 seconds to generate for some. Our web server / load balancer somehow got pretty bad latency to our database server (up to 1 second ping time) via shared networking. Talked to Lvl 1 support on Live Chat and couldn't have it resolved. Finally decided to reboot our webserver and viola! Latency issue disappeared. Might still be some lingering issue in hosting provider's backend as we've seen this last week as well.

    Very Sloooowwwwwwww tonight…

    • same here

    • +1

Same issue as 2 days ago. Basically sporadic ping between our load balancer / web server and our database server (up to 2 seconds to ping another server on the same shared virtual network). Imagine every SQL queries take 500ms to 2 seconds to come back. Rebooted the server this time and it didn't get fixed.

I am writing a support ticket now to the hosting provider.

      • Thanks, I'll just type a bit more slowly in the meantime… :)

  • The downtime this morning was related to a large DDOS attack on Crucial's servers. Hopefully it's back to normal for everyone now.

  • OzBargain will be down for a few minutes sometime between 6:15am and 6:45am AEDT on Thursday 4 December 2014 for software upgrade.

    • Ths upgrade has been completed.

  • OzBargain was down for almost 2 hours today, 7:05PM to 8:55PM on 15 December 2014, due to web hosting company Crucial Cloud Hosting suffered from distributed denial of service attack. See this status page. It's affecting not just OzBargain but also many other websites on the network.

    • So that's what happened. I thought Ozbargain had been Ozbargained. ;)

  • Would Cloudflare help in situation like this ?

    • Probably not. I didn't have good experience with CloudFlare before. In this case we might not even be the target. The whole /24 subnet was unreachable. So your site could still be killed behind CloudFlare's proxy.

  • Unscheduled Email Outage 2015-02-27 12:20PM

Just received an email from one of our hosting companies that our email server is going down for maintenance as there are hardware related issues. It will be down at 12:20PM for approximately an hour.

OzBargain website will still function. However

    • Notification emails from OzBargain will be delayed (until the server comes back on)
    • Incoming emails for @ozbargain.com.au will also be delayed
  • Distributed Denial of Service 2015-04-17 11PM

OzBargain has been going up and down this evening due to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) at the hosting company, which may/may not be directly at OzBargain. See Crucial Cloud Hosting's status update. DDoS started at around 5:30PM and the site came back online at around 9:30PM.

    • Thanks scotty. Still getting longish ping times every so often. Just got one at 11:27pm… no response at all for 1 minute.

  • Thumbnail Images / Generation Outage 2015-10-01

Network Presence is currently having router issues with their Sydney OP. See updates from their tweets. As OzBargain hosts its thumbnails and generation application on Network Presence's infrastructure, the thumbnails aren't working this morning. We'll be re-generating all the missing thumbnails when the service resumes.

  • Network Presence Connectivity Issue 2016-01-12

    From Network Presence's tweet:

A switch appears to have failed in one of our racks in Sydney & personnel are on their way to the Data Centre now. More info soon.

Half of our servers with Network Presence are off-line at the moment and the other half have slow network. Thumbnail generation is offline.

  • Crucial Server Migration Issue 2016-04-11

Apparently some of our servers are currently on the truck. Our hosting provider, Crucial Cloud Hosting, is moving all the servers to the data centre managed by its parent company, Digital Pacific. Looks like tonight is the night they are moving our caching, searching & session server. So

    • Caching is now on our main DB server
    • All existing sessions are killed
    • Searching does not work

Hopefully things will be back to normal by morning.

  • Email Server Issue 2016-07-08

We have migrated to a new email server for all our out-bound emails yesterday (2016-07-07) as part of platform upgrade. However currently experiencing issues with sending emails to both Hotmail/Outlook and Yahoo as the new IP address does not yet have sufficient reputation (we have already set up SPF & Domain Key though). Currently we have around 9,400 out-bound emails to Hotmail & Yahoo queued at our email server.

    Gmail is not affected.

    • We are slowly delivering all the Hotmail / Outlook mails. Looks like the issue is resolved for them. However Yahoo is still refusing to accept connection from our email server.

  • OzBargain Server Migration 20 July 2016

There is scheduled server migration in the early morning of Wednesday 20 July this week. The site might be down for up to 30 minutes to migrate the data and website to new servers.

    • Server migration completed. Around 20 minutes of down-time copying database & setting up replication. OzBargain is also serving from a new IP address.

      /me going back to bed.

  • We are having issues with the newsletter process and this evening's newsletter was not sent out.

    • The newsletter has been re-sent.

  • Hey guys I can't seem to get the menu bar drop down button or the alerts button show up on mobile even in full website mode
Anyone else facing this issue ?

    • This is what I am seeing
      m.imgur.com/BJThcFu

      • Thanks, wow, haven't seen that before. Did this only start happening today, and were you previously signed in?

      • It looks like some icons are not loading for you. What happens when you click on the top leftmost orange space (to the left of the Ozbargain logo)?

        • can't click the alert button or the top left drop down button and can't see them either as per the pic
          Even in full website view
          m.imgur.com/wLgsPZo

Started Friday - between Friday and today I have changed phones and was the same on my iPhone 6 plus and also on iPhone now
          Tried both safari and chrome

        • @CozmerkIsenberg: I can see that you are missing all the fontawesome icons (including the + and - in the vote boxes). Those icons are loaded from the main stylesheet for the OzBargain site and I can see that the other styles are loading for you, just not the fonts. Very odd.

Do you mind clearing the browser cache and trying again?

        • @moocher: that didn't fix it. Problem found ! It was contact blocked "speedafari" downloaded few weeks back https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/258613
As soon as I turned off access to safari for this content blocker it worked

        • @CozmerkIsenberg: Ha, great, the next thing i was going to ask is if you had any content blockers ;) Glad it's sorted.

        • @moocher: thanks for your assistance

  • Hey guys

    Just thought I'd note -
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals does not work whilst not logged on, it gives a 404 error.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ (with slash) works fine logged in or not.

Hope you can see it too!

    • annddd it works now. nevermind!

      • I had the issue on my phone this morning.

  • Not really an issue but sometimes it shows one less comment than there is however the 'new' comments are the right amount Example

    • Thank you, will investigate.

  • There will be scheduled maintenance for the OzBargain website on Monday 6 March between 6:00am and 7:00am AEDT. The estimated downtime will be between 15 and 30 minutes. During this time the site will show a 'OzBargain is currently under scheduled maintenance' message and no pages will be accessible.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause.

      That's OK.

So long as you refund my OzBargain Platinum account fees on a pro rata basis…

      • :D

  • Email comment notifications went down in the afternoon and are currently down. Scotty/Moocher will be on it in the morning.

    • The issue was fixed approx 6:30am on 8 March.

  • The thumbnail grabber/generator crashed since after midnight 11 March 2017.

Anyone else having issues with comment editing? Edit the comment, post it, but the edit isn't there :/ And it's not because someone has replied

    • I'll look into this. We had a "Back to comment" button on the comment editing page that will discard the changes. Maybe you hit that by accident? I'm removing that button for now and let's see whether you still experience the issue.

      • Nah didn't hit that button :P

        Editing working normally now :)

      • I'm finding that button really hard to get used too. I've constantly accidentally clicked the back to comment button instead of the post comment button.

Anyone else having issues with comment editing? Edit the comment, post it, but the edit isn't there :/ And it's not because someone has replied

Yes, I noticed it around the same time as your comment.

Refreshing the cache seemed to solve the problem, or it was spontaneously resolved coincidentally…

    • +1

I have that problem all the time.

  • Looking at Ozbargain on my mobile and it defaults to desktop mode. I can't even access the mobile site anymore. No idea why. Has anything changed? It was fine on Thursday.

  • I can't seem to revoke my vote on a comment. The red circular (no entry) button appears, I click it and my vote in the list changes to the grey '+' icon. However the vote count changes to 'NaN' and upon reloading the page, the state reverts back to how it was originally.

    • Do you mind letting us know which comment it was? You can use PM if you prefer it not to be public.

I've just tested voting on your comment above and revoking and it seems ok.

    • Thanks. There appears to be a bug in the error reporting when a vote cannot be revoked (in this case, the vote was placed over an hour ago). This will be fixed in the next rollout later this week.

  • It will be interesting to see a separate thread for price errors removed from deals.
similar to a merchant take down page.

As at now I believe they just go to the forums?

    • Use the feedback thread as this is for site issue announcements.

  • BinaryLane Internal Network Issue 2017-05-20

Starting from 12PM AEST the internal network between our servers at BinaryLane has degraded performance / lost packets causing the OzBargain site to be off-line until 1:07PM. It is fixed for now.

  • Our thumbnail servers and AMQP cluster at Vultr is down due to connectivity issues in their Sydney data centre. From their status page:

    05/22/17 7:39 pm EDT
Our network engineers are currently working with upstream providers to determine the cause of this issue. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

    05/22/17 7:25 pm EDT
We are currently experiencing degraded network performance in our Sydney location. Our network engineers are actively working with our upstream providers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

For the moment thumbails / website screenshots won't work.

The automatic title fixer doesnt seem to be working for me? e.g not suggesting to fix lower case words etc

    • Just tested on the title for this thread and seems to be working for me.

  • I can't seem to find the ability to set up a search alert anymore? The button that was previously on the search page is missing. I want to create an alert for LG G6 :( Maybe it's a sign not to buy it.

Mobile & chrome desktop both experiencing this issue.

    • I'm an idiot. So it only appears when you hit enter and end up on the /search page, but if you're on the /product page, there is no subscribe to product option.

  • +1

Has there been an issue with the RSS feeds today? Feedly isn't currently pulling them for some reason. I can see they're currently up to date on the site.

    • +1

Was a Feedly outage, nothing to do with OzB.

  • I noticed the same thing with Feedly. Missed deals for around 12-18 hours.

  • Menu bar not dropping down on mobile site using Safari on iOS 10.3.3. Working in other browsers.

  • +1

not sure if this was always the case but I cant search for "&", noticed when I was searching for Up&Go

    • Yeah that's always been the case, not a simple fix but on Scotty's list to do if time becomes available.

      • +2

        Thank you!!

        • This should be fixed as of this morning.

Note that in the case of up&go, a manual search isn't needed as when you write up&go in the product tag will appear here which you can use to search for all deals tagged with that product.

          Thanks

        • +1

          @hamza23: Awesome, appreciate the update.

  • +1

any one else having problems voting on deals ?

    • +1

Yep, Small delay, just thought it was my phone.

      • Any issues now? I think it's okay but let us know if not.

        • +2

perhaps I am now experiencing what nocure said, now there is a small delay. before it would have to click several times or maybe the lag was just really long (30 seconds).

        • @Savas:

I see, thanks I'll pass it on.

        • +1

@hamza23: nocure is right, like 25 second delay

        • +1

@hamza23: Voting is fast again, thank you.

  • +1

there appears to be a lot of Banggood deals being posted, all with the same formatting consistency (no store in title, unnatural description and free shipping in title)

  • +1

There's a huge lag when you vote on deals, surely it is just not me?

    • +1

Double tap or click does it for me instantly.

  • +1

Recently noticed the option to view entered competitions from the comps menu while on mobile is missing.

    • What is your browser / device? (e.g Safari / Iphone) and are you logged into ozbargain?

      • Chrome on Android and logged in. Has always worked fine in the past just recently noticed it's missing.

        • Please try clearing cache, and reboot the app. It would be in Settings -> Advanced section -> Privacy -> Clear Browsing Data.

        • @scrimshaw: That fixed it. Didn't think to try that myself before posting. Thanks.

  • +1

On mobile (StarHub in China), via chrome. The URL strip is classic orange, but all other headers/menus are yellow. Is that just me? Been that way for 30minutes. Some sort of salute to Richmond in the AFL?

    • See here

One day theme change to promote R U OK.

      • +2

        Ozbargain is OK. Thanks

        • +1

lol love the joke! hope china is awesome.

      • +1

Would it be possible for days like this to put the same banner as you have on the home page explaining why the colour change on other pages also?

Not everyone starts at the home page.

For example I always I start at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals

        Pete

        • Yep sure, will pass that on for next time.

          Thanks
