You're a boon to this community.

  • Damn the Toshiba Encore is cheap. I paid $420 for the 64gb version in December.

    • How do you find it so far? thinking of getting it but still not sure at this point

      • At this price get it !
I found it ok, annoyed with the HDMI output but apparently its fixed with a firmware update.

I still find for portable stuff Android is the go but if you want a notebook with sorta portability / tablet functionality Windows 8.1 is the way to go.

Be sure to ask if Office is included cus it wasn't on mine. At JBHIFI I just got a $25 Microsoft credit to use in their store.

Check out Amazon for cases. The original case is a massive rip off.

    • Yep, it's a good price and is getting close to foreign pricing at around $230 USD. After shipping, duties, gst and currency conversion, the price turns out somewhere near $300.

I can't wait to see the 11 inch tablets for $300-400.

I also found this article written recently:

      http://liliputing.com/2014/04/intel-envisions-99-windows-tab…

      Nice eh?

      • +2

You wouldn't pay duties or GST on it as it's under $1000?

        • Ah, yep, but the big business importers will have to pay these fees. This is why the price cannot go under $300 in the near term.

It only works if you bring in the item yourself. If you are going on a holiday soon, look out for some bargain tablets whilst you are there.

  • Nexus 7 2012(as per pic) 16GB for $249 (Save $50). Someone didnt do their homework properly before uploading deal page.

    • its the 2013 version you'll get. pretty amateurish mistake though

  • Any feedback about "Pioneer SE-MJ711 Extreme Bass Dynamic Headphones - White Twin Pack Bundle" ?
    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/pioneer-se-mj711-extreme-bass-dy…

    • just bought one, it is a new model, looks good, sell for $40 each on Ebay

  • no more sony bluetooth speaker:(

  • +4

The Toshiba Basics 2tb protable hdd $119 is a good deal. (3pm-4pm)

Can't believe they are still trying to flog of the Blaupunk soundbar

    • Lets hope it is still free delivery.

      Showing 143 for me

      • +2

Dude! 1 hour only between 3pm and 4pm EST.

        • thanks mate, didn't take notice of time

        • +1

they are in the hour promo section still at 143 currently. hopefully they are just a little slow to update price

    • are they really bad?… (the soundbar i mean)

      • Going by the comments from last deal on the sound bar, it is not very good. But for $79 might be good value and probably better than your tv sound.

    • Hmmm on the Hour of Power page it's showing as 143. (as of 3:17pm)

      Edit: 3:18pm it's now $119!

    • Just had a look and this drive is still $119 - thinking of getting it.. To save or not to save :(

  • go price for GO Pro? Does it come with remote?

    • Yeah I'm wondering if thats a good gopro price too!
Though it's limited to 150 units. Good Luck!

      • looks like it doesn't come with wifi remote. camera only. Then the price is not very good

        • +4

The hero3+ black edition definitely comes with a remote as standard.
Seems like a good price for AUS stock.

    • +2

The GoPro Hero3+ black edition comes with wifi remote in the box.

      • Thx man.
But when I look at DSE website, there are two items, one is XG4177GC the other one is XG4177, doesn't look like XG4177 one got remote in the pic.
also, is remote water proof as well?

        • +1

all blacks come with a remote. Yes they're waterproof

    • Never mind, checked the link :)

  • Guess these are all EST times?

    • If you actually look at the link, it says EST.

  • can anyone comment on the Yamaha YAS-201 and/or if this is a bargain?

    • I read up about this a while ago. And from memory its pretty good as a soundbar.

  • -4

    I can't find any deals

  • Nikon d5200 worth it?

    • I am looking at that too. From what I have read on whirlpool it's a pretty decent camera. Very good if you're just getting into photography (as in, it should last you a long time).

Comparing prices, the best price that I could find was 670~ on kogan. JB have it for about 770~.

I think I might bite the bullet and get one.

    • Yep I got it. You can't go wrong at this price.

  • +1

The UE 6000 at $88 seems like a decent price? Had a look on OzB and headfi and the lowest it's been was $99 and regularly priced around $150. I have the ATH M50 and love them for their sound quality but the pleather does get a bit warm after a while. How do these compare?

    • yes, definitely a good deal!

i haven't heard the M50 myself, but from what i gather, the two headphones are pretty comparable (in the same ballpark). some prefer M50, some prefer UE6000 (i think i would lean towards the latter, though as i said, i haven't heard M50).

can't help you on the warmth thing! from what i know UE6000 is much more comfortable.

      • Anyone have thoughts on how the UE6000 compare to Philips Fidelio M1?

        • sorry, haven't heard the M1, and don't know much about it.

i have the Fidelio X1, and it's a fantastic headphone, but i believe the M1/L1/X1 are all substantially different, so that doesn't bear any relevance.

  • are these free shipping, considering the 398 tv at 6-7 but if we need to pay shipping then no

    • free delivery on orders over $99 :)

  • +3

Eneloops are usually $20 and they ALWAYS say its a $20 - $30 saving.

That's just another lie. (in Chris Cooper voice from Interstate 60)

  • +2

I paid $89 for the Blaupunkt on the last sale and took it back to them as it wasnt that crash hot. Still wouldnt buy at 79 either.

    • thanks for that :) was thinking about it… might go with the LG Soundplate just i haven't got much room on the tv unit .. :(

      • I bought the Sound Plate LAP340 :)

        • yeh i was happy enough with the reviews but the prices was $50 less than anywhere else inc shipping… :) main thing i need is to improve the ridiculously horrible speakers in my tv… hehe

        • it's $349 now on DSE

        • $249 + $30 shipping is the next best i found. From the Good Guys.

  • Anyone owned the LG sound bar and can comment on it? Thinking about it or the Yamaha one.

    • I've heard the LG one in store and I wasn't impressed. I haven't heard the Yamaha one

      • Thanks. Almost bought it as the LG received quite a few positive reviews. The Yamaha is an old model so not too sure about it as well.

        • The YAS-201 is one of the better soundbars on the market, better than the LG and only $100 more. $299 is very good value, google the reviews.

        • Samsung make killer sound bars with subwoofers

        • Less than half an hour to decide. Thinking between YAS-201 or the YHT-S401 over at the good guys which is $399 but I get $50 from Amex. Is $50 more worth it to get the YHT-S401 instead?

  • Any feedback on the SWAN DVR9-1425 + 4 cameras for $399?
I think its better than buying than the DVR-1425 + 6 camera kit for an extra $100.
    Cheers in advance.

    • Yeah I'm keen on the 6

    • The two better cameras look pretty neat. I am buying this kit to upgrade our current similar system which is only 4 channels. We will end up with an extra camera but I am going to keep it with the old DVR and hide it somewhere else.

The only thing I don't like about these is the resolution is not great enough to get face detail but you have to spend big dollars to get that. These are great for insurance, we already had break in into our shed, couple of grand worth of damage and stolen goods. The screenshots from the camera were enough to claim everything easily.

      • Better than the eBay ones?

        • +1

Which 'eBay ones' are you referring to?

        • All of them. Any of them :)

  • Hmm I still haven't received my speakers I ordered from dse two weeks ago. It claimed they were in stock and they have not been dispatched. Their postage is a bit hit and miss I find.

  • Does anyone know how much shipping would be for the 32" Hitachi TV? Cheers

    • nevermind.. just checked on the DSE website while it's full price and it says shipping is $0.

      • Yes because all orders over $99 come with free shipping.

  • How's the 55" JVC TV? Isn't JVC a Panasonic company?

    • +2

I'm reading on Wikipedia that Panasonic released its ownership of JVC back in 2007. These JVC TV's are probably just some generic TV made in China with a JVC label placed on it. The same goes for Hitachi TV's. They're just generic made TV's.

  • +1

If only they had the mivue 358 for the price of the 338

    • I just saw some vidz on youtube and the result isn't very thrilling. I couldn't read the number plates of the cars in many of them. Guess I'll pass this one.

  • Is the JVC 55" tv any good?

    • I'd like to know the answer to this also. A google search shows Dick Smith as the only seller of these TV's. They are not even on the JVC website so I'm a little suss about it. But the specs look good.

    • I'd get the 70" Hitachi but I'd rather save $500. My 3 yo boy will probably break it anyway

  • +5

If Dick can last a whole hour of power, then that is one powerful Dick.

  • +3

2TB turns out to be $143? not $119….

    Typical Dick's lie again?

    • yeah wtf?

    • +1

I bought it and have asked me to refund them the difference. It is not legal for them to do that I believe (bait and switch) so they will have to refund you the difference.

EDIT: You can find it at the correct price at http://www.dicksmith.com.au/stop-the-clock?utm_source=homepa…

      • Thanks, ordered one.

    • It's showing up as $119 now

  • bought one!
    (external hard drive)

  • Don't be a Dick.

  • Light our darkest hour!

  • The Logitech ue 6000 seems like a decent price and every review seems to rate it very well. Anyone own a pair?

    • yes, i do. it's a great headphone for the price. (i paid $100, and am happy with them for that price).

while i haven't heard either of the others, i believe they are on par with (if not better than) the CAL and M50, which appear to be the two most recommended cans in the price range.

  • Toshiba Basic Portable Hard Drive 2TB Black - still showing up at $119 24 minutes after Dicks powerful hour, no way that's natural

  • +1

Sweet, I just scored a Yamaha soundbar.

    Thanks OP!

  • Just bought the Logitech ue 6000
$88, free delivery. Quite happy with myself ;)

    Thanks

  • same here logitech UE6000 only $88!!!

    • Yeah same…reviews seem really good.

      • Did you guys go with white or black, couldnt make up my mind lol

        • i was scared the white ones would look crap, but i think they actually look pretty awesome!

my UE9000 are black (they only come in black), and the design is pretty much the same. i prefer the look of my white UE6000.

lucky, because i was going to get the black UE6000. but it's better this way, because the blue+white combo looks a lot better than the blue+black combo, in my opinion, so it's better to have the black one wireless and have the white one with the blue cable.

        • Good point, really wanted the white but in the end went with the 'safe' option and got the black lol. Worried the white would get dirty quickly, might buy the 9000 for the bluetooth function depending on how good the 6000 is going to be.

Would you happen to know if the pause/play/next function on the cord work with android/windows phone?

        • sorry, haven't tried…if you like, i can try when i get home (if i remember).

        • doesn't appear to work on my windows phone (1020). on android (P1000 samsung galaxy tab) the middle button works as play/pause, but not the volume buttons.

edit: on my android device (which is very old, and running a custom version of gingerbread, i believe) the multifunction button does the following:
-play/pause, and ff (but not rewind) in VLC
          -play/pause only in MXplayer
          -nothing in default music player

based on this, maybe newer android versions (and programs) will work better…

        • I have a 1520 :(
Oh well, thanks for the reply back
