This support article gives more information for using with PC:
    http://www.turtlebeach.com/support/entry/830517212/

To work on a PC you need to have:
    - a Dolby Digital Live (DDL) sound card with a digital optical S/PDIF output
    - a Bluetooth interface

    • Thanks a lot for the info and link. I don't know a lot about sound cards but I bought the xps8700 from dell: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125071

It doesn't mention anything about a sound card in my specs so it's probably just the on board one, do you know if that would support DDL?

The review makes it look really good:
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelvenables/2013/05/14/revie…

I'm still trying to decide whether I should get it for my PC gaming

He mentions needing a AV adapter to get it to work on the original Xbox 360. That means it speaks either RCA or optical; you can get a USB optical adapter for $17 off eBay. Not sure what you'd use to get the mic working, but it does do Bluetooth headset & gaming simultaneously, so that could be an option.

    • That adapter is included in the package, it plugs into the bottom of the X360 controller and acts as a bluetooth adapter, so you can have wireless chat without running a cable (but a cable is included to run between headset and controller if you'd prefer it that way). It's a bulky adapter but doesn't get in the way.

    • Lithium polymer battery, non-removable, meaning I can't use my eneloop batteries bought from DSE previously.

And Li-po is worse than Li-ion

P&H is free at the moment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/140779

    • OVERSIZED/FRAGILE IN STOCK
It doesn't qualify for free shipping, $8.59 shipping to metro area I checked.
edit: people got free shipping, probably I need to login.

    • +2

Can confirm P&H is free; I just ordered on.

Looks like the XP510 is the "XBox360" one; comes with optical/RCA/BT inputs.
XP51 is the "Playstation 3/4" model, comes with optical/BT inputs. I think the only difference is in the ease of mic->console connection.

      • Free postage isnt available on the PX51's
I tried to order PS51's + Lexar 8GB Micro SD and only the SD card gets free post

    • Nice :)

um…this is a ridiculously fantastic deal. I upgraded to this from the Astro A50s and never looked back.

    • Do you use this on PC or just the xbox360?

      • +3

actually, just for ps3/ps4 and they do a fantastic job on movies. They come with about 50 presets and you can make your own with the software.

        • Do you use chat on PS4? Did it come with the cable (headphones to dual shock) or you had to buy that separately?

        • +1

Sorry Emerson, haven't used it. I'm not much of an online gamer. Apparently all you need for PS4 chat is in the box, you just need to upgrade the headset to the latest firmware via their software to use it.

  • Does anyone think these are good value? Was just browsing the headphones on cotd. Thanks

What's the difference between the XP510 and the PX51?
Google doesnt have much info on this, anyone used both?

    EDIT
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFgj9YtcgPc

    XP510 is optimised for Xbox
    PX51 is optimised for PS3

    • +1

Indicated with the letter in their model numbers usually - P=PS, X=Xbox XP=both. I eventually settled on this headset after looking at the top of the line products from other companies.

      • removed

  • I'm assuming it can't be used for regular TV watching?

    • +2

I have my gaming devices and TV connected to my Denon amp…if this is plugged in to a separate USB power source (always on) and connected to your amp, you can use it for ANY A/V device plugged into your amp, including foxtel. compatable with 360,ONE,PS3,PS4 too.

      • What's the connection between this and your amp? 3.5mms from the phones outlet?

  • +2

I have a pair of these and have been pretty impressed with the quality for a wireless headset. They can get a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours, so you might find the odd review here and there about someone who thinks thy are aweful because they probably wear them 10 hours a day. I have about $260 for these 4 months back, so this is a massive deal. If you need a gaming headset, this is top of the line for TurtleBeach.

    • Thanks for the info roosta. Have you tried using an xbox/playstation headset on pc before? I'm curious about the quality. I bought the XP510 so I guess I'm committed now!

      • I play very few games on the PC and I'm in the middle of upgrading parts of my desktop so have only been using the laptop recently, meaning I can't really answer your question.

  • +6

As much as I hate COTD this is a great deal.

    • +1

I was very surprised when I stumbled across this!

    • Why so you hate them just curious?

      • I remember when Diablo III first came out they had a "deal" for 'limited stock' where you could buy the game for something like $20. They advertised this very heavily on facebook etc. So I decided to sign up and get the deal. Me and my friends were refreshing and then the time came and the site slowed down and every copy was gone - it was sold out in less than a second! I'm pretty sure that Australian consumer law states that they have to have a 'reasonable' amount of stock at an advertised price but they obviously didn't. As a result there were a lot of angry people though I don't know if COTD still does the same thing now.

        edit: the link https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70078

  • These are compatible with Xbox One if anyone is interested.

It SUCKS for pc gaming. Why? Well, the bluetooth microphone sounds like youre living in a tin can. Not to mention other issues you get with a bluetooth connection (drops, pairing issues if the headset goes flat mid game) etc. Not to mention you dont need to go through the annoyances of a wireless headset when youre basically sitting on top of your box. You just dont need it. Get a wired headset and save yourself headaches.

However, if youre kicking back on the lounge with a console I think its justified.

    • +1

Yeah probably the one knockback is the microphone, I expect a LOT better for what I paid…I've only used it with the X360 and it's pretty poor but audible for online chat scenarios.

      • +1

It gets the job done, but theres a massive tradeoff with bluetooth. Note that the input is great, you get great audio over wifi, but the headset wont transmit wifi which is where the bluetooth comes in.. and bluetooth bandwith is severly limited.

        • Thanks for the heads up theworks and roosta. I almost bought one to replace my ps3 wireless headset which I use for PC, which has really terrible mic performance too.

  • awesome deal. just got the PX's - pity no free shipping on them though!!

    • That's so odd because I got the free shipping on the XP510. Perhaps you can enter live chat with one of the reps and ask them about it?

      • +2

Log in and proceed to checkout then the shipping is taken off.

        • +1

Not for the PX51's, seems to be only for the XP510's

  • I paid $160 for the px4 early this year. I guess this would be a big upgrade?

  • No free shipping on the Turtle Beach Ear Force PX51 Headset (optimised for ps3)!! not sure if I'm doing something wrong?

edit: shipping $8.59 for the PX51

  • wow orderd

  • I just got the XP510 for my PS3 is that a bad choice?

Just an update, i got the shipping refunded. Thanks for the heads up guys!!!

    • thanks, i did the same

  • I have the XP400, which appears to be identical. I use it with a DDL sound card with my gaming PC and it works great. It's very comfortable even for long gaming sessions.

  • its a shame the chat for ps4 is wired.

  • +1

For all those wondering about the shipping for the PX51, after purchasing it I submitted a request using their online form. They replied in less than 5 minutes and refunded me the shipping amount :)

I already have the Official Sony PS3 Wireless 7.1 Stereo Headset,
how does this TB compare to the Sony stero headset?

    • I have that one too. I have however just purchased this PX51, it is one of the headsets I was looking at when I bought the Sony one. Only because price was too much. @ $100 I think its worth a buy

      • Yeah I ended buying it as well.

Hope the $20 coupon comes through.

  • +1

    Thanx op :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just ordered. P&H is free btw.

  • +1

    Thanks i got a xp510

  • +2

Thanks OP. After a lot of internal debate, I caved and bought the PX51's.

Seems they've adjusted the website, as shipping is now free for this model.

  • +1

Ordered, thanks OP for posting :)

  • After do goggle thing, IMO the main difference between XP510 & PX51 is ;

XP510 : got XBA bluetooth adapter for xbox 360.
PX51 : got wired xbox talkback cable.

I think better to buy the XP510 considering all the same specification..
but if those who prefer the blue color instead green pick the PX51.

    • That's right, I forgot to put that info in the description, I'll do it now. Cheers.

  • I've got a question regarding the sound card if anyone can help out. I've got a dell xps8700 with REALTEK ALC3861 integrated high‑definition 7.1 channel audio. Does anyone know if this is DDL compatible?

  • Missed the xp510s' :(
Anyone who could transfer the unopened 510' to me?
    Email: [email protected] ;)
    Cheers

    • I'll consider it if I can't figure out my sound card. The item has already been shipped to me so I would have to re-post it to you.

      • Lovely! Please let me know then! Of course will cover the postage!

  • +1

    PX 51 still available

    • True - I'll try to remove the expired status and add notes in the description. Thanks.

    • How many left indeed when "almost gone" :)
Seems it can still last long time

  • Anyone grabbed more than one set of xp510? :)

  • +1

I got my XP510 in the mail today!

I already see a couple of PX51s on Gumtree for twice the price LOL.

    • haha I noticed the same! Mine also came in the mail today.

    • +1

      keep or sell? lol

      • lol - sold it to you! I figured after all of that it would be a hassle for me to get it working properly on the pc with surround sound. I had a long look at the shiny picture on the box though! I've got a $200 coles/myer gift card to use so I might get some nice headphones and a stand alone mic.

        • Was asking Greenlego. Am looking for another set for my partner Lol

No surround sound? Are you after HIFI products? Anyway b^b not recommended :)

        • I'm keeping mine, the headsets work great. I am thinking about selling my old X41 now that I have a shinier one!

        • OOOOOh am right after the shinier one Lol

  • +1

Got mine 2day- sold the chat cable + wireless chat dongle for $40 bringing the total of my xp510's to $59.95. Thanx again op! :)
