The HDD is Western Digital and goes for about $110, so you are getting the media player really for approx $90.

The specifications say it supports MPEG4, h.264 and mkv are simply a container format for the MPEG4 data so the player should cope just fine.

if ur not planning on playing blu ray .mkv files then it should be ok for dvd rips
um, it will lag for sure, u know how big blu ray rips r? 6-15 gigs average. Not even a netbook can play 720p files yet alone this thing that doesn't have a proper cpu or gpu…
Hmm, my HDTank plays HD rips fine. Not sure about this brand though.

good for dvd rips but can't play .mkv or x264 files which is the new stardard in blu ray rips :)
