So you got the bonus even without putting any credit on the SIM?

    • +1

      Correctamundo!

      • Pretty slack of them. However it would be more useful for people with a spare phone or a dusl SIM phone unless you don't care about having a known number people can call. What's the data speed like on VF? Is it still frustrating?

        • What's so slack about the freebie?

No other $2 sim from any other Telco gives you this!

        • If they VF were smart they would require some credit to add the bonus onto. Or maybe they don't care.

At VF's inflated rates, $5 of calls is something like 5 or 6 minutes. That's about 60c value with another telco like Amaysim. Amaysim charges 5c/MB on AYG so that would cost $2.50 there. So the gain over using my Amaysim credit instead is $1.10, hardly a great advantage for all the hassle. Still I allow that it might be useful to some people like visitors.

        • aldi mobile comes with $5 credit on activation.
maybe i should post that up here?

        • $5 ALDI starter is not a special offer.

          This Vodafone one is!

        • Vodafone is now very fast.

          Upgraded their backhaul.

        • +1

voda's speed was never an issue for me when i used to use them it as worst reception which is why i am now boost.

        • Yes, VFs data speed can be painfully slow at times of the day… and sometimes non existent! Tend to get a few call drop-offs nowadays too. You never used to back in the days when you actually paid for every phone call you made!
But I'm not giving up my 'OLD' $45 Infinite plan for anything!

  • +5

I can't really see the bargain in this, or the practicality of activating 12 sims. doesn't that mean you can't keep your number.

    • +1

I'm kind of with you - the amount of time taken to purchase activate and install 12 sims could be spent doing pureprofile surveys and possibly using the money to buy a month of Telstra pre-paid.

  • Meh

  • +4

    $2 is not free.

  • +2

So the credit lasts 48 hours? Optus $2 days better value?

    • -1

      Yes.

And with Optus, you need to Recharge first.

      Not with Vodafone!

  • +4

$2 for 50MB… not a good deal at all

  • +2

$5 call value and 50 MB is not a deal

  • +4

if it was 500 mb maybe but 50 what can you do with that watch 30 second add on youtube?

    • +2

Make a post to OzBargain with an uploaded image included ;)

      • incentive to join Vodafone and get on OzBargain, good deal

    • Basically, yep. :-)

  • +2

    Emergencies?

Not sure what else… Besides texting spam

    • +2

      Indeed,good for spammers!

      • -8

I actually love and sign up for SMS mailing lists.

Because the so-called 'SPAM' costs them money to send, it is more relevant to local Australian customers like me and never involves viagara scams or Phillipino brides! LOL

Anyone know any SMS mailing lists I can sign up to?

  • +2

Good for international guests only staying a short while. Cheers OP.

    • No probs :-)

  • -1

    wow 12x 500mb, that's a lot of streaming. well, I guess u have 48 hrs to stream

    • Pretty cool, eh?

      • +4

        Vodaphone
        12x$2=24
        $24=600mb

        optus:
        $2sim+$5recharge =$7
        $7=2 days on 2 dollar days = 1gb

        $24 vs $7

        • True.

Does $2 DAYS also include calls and text?

        • +1

          UNLIMITED…

        • +1

          Cool.

          Didn't know that.

Plus you get a FREE $3 IOU credit, but only 35 days after your last Optus recharge.

          Don't forget that!

        • +1

          unlimited calls and unlimited text.
500mb of data per day $5 is 2 days of unlimited calls text and 1gb data with $1 left over.

        • I'm on $2 Days.

Minimum recharge, initial and ongoing, is $30.

          Available recharge increments are 30, 40, 50, 70 or 100 dollars.

        • +1

Minimum recharge is $5 for $2 days for optus online i recharge.

        • I recharge online too. Never seen a $5 option on the OptusZoo account portal that I have always used.
Never an issue for me, in any case.

Odd disparity, though. I'll take your word for it.

enter your mobile number and click next on whatever payment method.

        • Address looks familiar.

I'm on 3G $2 days (no new signups, genuine unlimited data).
Recharge options changed for 4G $2 days accounts, presumably.

        • +1

i used to use optus unlimited for 3g for the downloads and recharged with $5

        • +1

          Nah, its actually $5.

          Not $30

        • After punching in my number, the multiple redirects from the launch site only end up showing me the recharge increments I listed above. I'll just have to live with it, I suppose…

        • You can only buy $5 as a Voucher from IGA, etc…

        • wrong ive only ever recgared with $5 for optus 2 dollar days on there website.

    • +2

      12x50

  • thanks op. but isnt there a limit (4) for howmany active numbers one can have in their name? did u get them all with ur name and details? do they check?

    • Technically, five.

You and the op ("I have 12 Activated sims currently!''), may care to read my comments in this thread www.ozbargain.com.au/node/141035 from a couple of days ago.

Take it or leave it - it's up to you.

    • There is no limit.

      And they don't check.

I have 12 Activated vodafone sims in my name.

      And 10 Telstra ones.

      No-one cares.

Take it or leave it - it's up to you.

      I'll leave it.

I'll also ignore the tin-foil hat wearers.

Like I said, no-one from the Government cares, since it is not illegal.

      • +1

I'm no tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist, mate, but I'm picturing you as a hipster in a Fedora, if that makes you happy.

Five active sims, and a couple of extra with properly submitted additional paperwork to the telecommunications authority are the rules, unless they've changed very recently. I'm too tired to look. Feel free to search yourself, if you're keen. I'm guessing that you're not, either.

As I said in the Telstra $10 sims thread, the rules may well not be enforced, but you may still ultimately end up on a list of one sort or another that you may not wish to be on.

As I said - again - it's up to you.

        • -2

          Wrong.

There is no law in Australia nor any of its States stating a maximum number of SIMs that must be Activated.

          Please get your facts straight.

  • -1

Cool, now all I need is a couple dozen cheaper burner phones and I can afford to get back into the international espionage scene!

Edit: I really shouldn't watch The Blacklist before going to bed!

  • +3

    I don't get it?

  • Designed for a speed test & a couple of test calls. That's about all

  • I don't get why OP recommends buying & activating multiple SIMs.
It encourages people to breach the communication authority rules. There is a big difference between a person doing this & encouraging it.

    • -3

      Wrong.

There is no law in Australia nor any of its States stating a maximum number of SIMs that must be Activated.

      Please get your facts straight.

    • +2

Obvious push to keep number of Services in operation stat (up), is obvious
Op only flew in 20/04 to register an account.OzBargain.
Virtual ghost town since the retirement of Favourites data add-on/attraction. SIMs yet stay active for months; seems rather straightforward.

        Interesting comment, daver.

I thought I had seen op's name previously, so didn't check. A member for just a day.

That aside - also hadn't paid any thought to telcos using multiple discarded, but still active, sim card sign-ons as a way of bolstering superficial market-share figures.

        • Telstra does it all the time when they sell $30 sims for $10 at coles and woolies

Which is when I stock up! :-)

      • +1

;-) Now you wouldn't be implying there might be another reason for a brand new member suggesting buying as many SIM packs as you can There is no limit to how many SIMs you can Activate!… (Or is it my suspicious mind)

… say 100 people buying say 12 packs each would mean 1200 new services needing to be activated very soon… Vodafone would be happy.

But I still don't understand the OPs reason for buying so many packs. It makes no financial sense, as I outlined below.

        • -2

Not illegal to have nor connect as many SIM cards as you like, anywhere in Australia.

          As I said earlier.

And Vodafone needs all support it can get.

No-one wants to see 3 Telco's (optus, telstra, vF) reduced to just 2. Less competiton is a bad thing.

Yes, I'm a Vodafone fanboi but i definately do not work for them! Lol

I think they only hire in INDIA anyway?

  • +3

Buying 12 SIMs for $24 to get 50MB & about a 5 minute call (89c/min + 39c connection) on each seems too much effort for too little reward.

The included data on each is what I get on free WiFi at shops, and purchase +activation +removal takes about same time as included call credit.

Yes, it is an added bonus, but there are other cheap SIMs which you might want to use, not throw out after just 2 days to activate the next.

    e.g. ALDI $5 with $5 credit - 12c/min (41min) calls 5c/MB 365 day expiry
OPTUS $5 SIM plus $1 Days as already mentioned.
TELSTRA (when on $10 special) gives either:
    $220 cap + $30 credit + free national calls after 6pm for 30 days /
    3GB data over 30 days /
6 months access with $30 credit for 15c/min (200min) calls etc
AND up to $30 credit to make purchases at Google Play etc or transfer to another Telstra service.

Even Vodafone online offers $1 SIM & ½ price $30 starter ($16 total) with
    Flexible Credit: $450
    Standard national TXT: Infinite
    Data within Australia: 500MB
    Expiry period: 28 days
    http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid
Certainly better value than $60 credit & 600MB for $24.

But then if you only have $2…

  • Warning: the linked deal shows this promotion is available (only?) at COLES.
Should be in TITLE if Coles only deal! Title says this deal is with Every Vodafone $2 SIM.
