Should I get this or the one from aliexpress for $17. The other seems a bit more functional but shipping will take longer.

    • +8

This one is a terrible charger. Basic charger with no features and you have to babysit it a bit so it doesn't overcharge too much which is detrimental to battery longevity.

      But it includes 4 eneloops.

  • Awesome deal. Thank you!

  • Tonestar linked to this deal earlier, but I forgot to act on it this morning. Thanks for the reminder!

    • +1

Honestly didn't see it sorry. Unfortunately there is $5 postage too.

      • +1

That's alright, he didn't list it in the title… Just a link to it!

        • +3

All eneloop deals deserve their own thread ;)

        • +3

I wouldn't have bought one if I didn't see your post. So all your fault!!

Jk, thanks mate! Good job, have been eyeing for one for ages.

        • +1

Yeah, I've been on the hunt for a decent price on a 4 pack of AA's for a while. I bought a power back from Amazon once before but ended up giving it away. I'm just excited that I can finally get my Game Boy alive again… in 2-3 business days that is.

  • Been waiting to see a good deal on these again.

  • I know it says in the feature list but to make sure, so it charges both AA and AAA batteries? Fits fine?

    • Can't help you sorry. It'll be 2-3 business days before I can give you an answer on that question.

    • +2

      I have this charger.
      Yes it takes both types.

  • +5

There seems to be a "big" mistake in the price listed…the actual price delivered is AU$19.94 :p every cent makes a difference haha

Been waiting for a good deal on this as i missed out on the last ones. Thanks OP for sharing.

  • +2

Strange how no one wants to mention the only thing that matters.

    Specifications:

    Typical Capacity 2000 mAh
    Voltage 1.2 V
    Life Cycles up to 1800
    Self-Discharge approx. 70% capacity after 5 years

    • +2

I didn't read any of it to be honest. I have just been in the market for eneloops and needed to copy and paste for 10 words.

  • -4

    Brought one thanks op

  • +7

Why is this considered a good deal? (honest question)

Usually get 8 Eneloop batteries for $20 minus the charger but people would normally prefer to buy a La Crosse Technology BC-700 charger (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/134584).

People mind shedding some light as to how good this deal is? Is it just a matter of "$20 for 4xEneloops plus you get a charger as well"?

    • +3

Well, that charger is ~$45 AUD and 8 Batteries is ~$20 on sale, so thats ~$65 all up. I only need 4 batteries, and a charger. I don't want a fancy charger, I just need one that won't burn my house down and charges my batteries.

What you are saying to me is that its a better deal to pay $45 more (so 325% of my original budget) and get some stuff I don't need. I don't really give a shit about batteries to be honest, I just want something that makes the the stuff I am interested in work.

When you say "People would normally prefer…", I think that might be an personal opinion generalised to others. I don't think most folk care what charger they have as long as their batteries are charged, but hey, I could be way off and I might just be generalising my own opinion to others too.

        • +11

I'm sorry, but is there something wrong with you?

He asked me why I thought it was a good deal… I replied. I even upvoted his question because it added to the discussion. The deal you posted was on 2 x AA and 2 x AAA and expired 9 months and 20 days ago. Unfortunately I missed the CoTD sale on time machines that expired 8 months and 19 days ago so I am not able to take advantage of it. In addition to that, I also don't require AAA batteries so it wouldn't suit me anyway.

Thank you for sending me a link to one use disposable batteries, but I would rather use rechargables if possible. Eneloops also seem to have a good rep, so I am happy to use them and not have to worry about longevity.

Is there somewhere we could meet up where you could talk to me about rechargeable batteries? I'm hoping I might learn some more about them to cleanse my ignorance. You seem like a really interesting person who I would love to have a conversation with in person.

        • +3

The irony of you telling someone else to 'calm their tits' is delicious.

        • Ohh ozbargain, so much drama over savings.

Strangely enough, I just bought headphones from DSE last week that needs batteries, AAA to be precise. Dont have any rechargeable batteries or a charger and for w/e reason chargers have been popping up the last couple of days on OzBargain, must be a sign. Im new to this rechargeable business but these will charge any branded rechargeable batteries and not just Eneloop right?

Bought one, thanks op. The included AA can go to my remotes.

      • +4

Masters have the superior Eneloop charger which is a quick charger but specifically designed for eneloop so it actually doesn't damage them when it recharges. The normal retail price is $30 every day with 4 AA batteries, so to save $10 your getting a pretty worthless charger. My advise is to get the quick charger as DSE are just clearing these out as they aren't very good.

I've used lots of slow charges (and expensive ones too) so I think you'd love the quick charger because its extremely fast and it cuts off when its finished not at some random time that may not may not be when the battery is actually charged.

Only reason I'd go for this deal is if I wanted it delievered.. then its basically $10 for 4 batteries which is pretty good I guess.

        • I have a La Crosse BC-700. Never bothered to check how long it takes to recharge the eneloop batteries. How much faster is it on the "superior Eneloop charger" that you mentioned?

For Masters, are you referring to this? https://www.masters.com.au/product/100679971/eneloop-quick-b…

There is no discount on the Eneloop Quick Charger at DSE though the listing indicates 100 minutes for 2xAA eneloop batteries:
          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/camera-accessories/eneloop-quick…

        • Yes, that is the right reference. Masters have two models, one is $29.99 and the other is a dollar less but not the 1800 cycle batteries. Your link is the better one. (actually the other one seems to be gone from their site)

How quick it charges is based on number of batteries and capacity but about 75 minutes for 1 battery and about 220minutes for all four. (100minutes sounds about right for 2AAs if inserted to the outer sockets of the charger) There is a matrix of speeds in the user manual. The fastest it can charge is 40 minutes for a single AA battery with capacity of 1000mA. The slowest is 4 AA at 2700mAh at 300minutes.

You may have already realised by those numbers that is is able to charge batteries individually unlike the other charger that does them in pairs. (I haven't tried 3 batteries yet)

I don't have the la crosse but I've used that style of charger in the past (various rezap models) They are great however this charger can cheat. Because its ONLY designed for eneloop the charging strategy apparently is tuned to the specific chemistry (voltage discharge characteristics I think) so it cuts off charge before causing damage as soon as the battery is fully charged. The smart chargers can't do this, they just try to avoid overheating the cells and ultimately end up pumping in a little too much power. There is a few strategies they follow but all the ones I know of are bound to the rules of reduce the input current to avoid overheating, except this model.

This is why they can maintain the warranty and claim of 1800 cycles even though its a fast charger. Note, not sure if everyone understands this but our third party chargers like my rezap and your LA Crosse "technically" void the battery warranty.

Whether you believe Eneloop's claims here is another issue, but my experience is it charges fast and I don't detect unusual levels of heat on the batteries. I can't say this for the rezap.

Model number is MQR06W, there is some interesting blogs on it.

I did recently try to get DSE to price match this charger but they told me they only match to close stores.. and they are not too many masters close to DSE stores.

        • Paulojr,

          are these the ones you are referring to?;
          https://www.masters.com.au/product/900046941/sanyo-eneloop-q…

          Isn't the charger the same?

        • +1

          Isn't the charger the same?

Without physically checking the actual product sitting on the shelf, can't be sure if the charger is different. But the item you're linking to must be an old one because the batteries are listed as having a 1500 cycle life whereas the new generation ones are 1800.
          As per ALphas post: https://www.masters.com.au/product/100679971/eneloop-quick-b…

        • ah sweet cheers for that, i'll be getting these ones from masters then

        • Yep, as per snoops observation, its old stock, 1500 cycle batteries, so the charger may also not be identical to the one that ships with the 1800 cycle batteries. Sorry I didn't see a model code when I saw them on the shelf. In any case the batteries are definately newer.

      • +1

Well, that charger is ~$45 AUD

erm…. a dumb "only 2 cells at a time" charger is worth $45? get out of the water…

its a $2 dumb charger with $43 worth of branding. please if your going to get good cells get a decent charger

        • -2

erm… That doesn't change the fact that that charger is ~$45 and my budget for batteries including charger is $20. At no point did I say the charger that comes in the pack is worth $45. There's also not $43 worth of branding, because its not $45… which is my point in the first place.

Stop plucking things out of context to get upvotes Nosdan, it's old.

        • -1

Stop plucking things out of context

settle petal. no need to get your panties in a bunch and get yourself banned.. i thought you were trying to say the eneloop charger had a retail price of $45. my mistake.

but if you extend the life of your eneloops by 3 or 4 times (which a good charger will) surely it has got to be worth spending the little extra originally?

There's also not $43 worth of branding

there sure is a branding markup on eneloop stuff, just use the hobbyking higher capacity batteries as a guide.

to get upvotes Nosdan, it's old.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. me? caring about insignificant numbers on the interwebs? i think you mistook me for some other members of this forum…. the only time ive ever cared about votes was when genuine questions/help have been negged out of view because those same comments have often helped other users on here. its not the negging that i care about, its trying to help other people here :) but nice try champ maybe next troll will be more of a success

edit: i just reread the 2 original posts…. if you didnt want to be misunderstood next time actually state which one your talking about "Well, that charger is ~$45 AUD" which charger? you cant complain that you have been misunderstood when you failed to be clear in the first place.

        • -2

Context is a great thing. Which charger you ask? The one mentioned in the comment I am replying to. You bore me Nosdan, do something more productive with your time.

        • +5

Modokun, I've been meaning to grab some for a while now so I thank you for bringing it to my attention again. However, I'm glad that others on here have pointed out the inadequacies of this charger and the deal as a whole. I've gotta say that just about every time I try to take a short cut or get out of it a little cheaper, I end up bitterly disappointed. I figure if I'm going to spend the money, I might as well spend a little more now and get something that will do the job properly and last a whole lot longer!

        • -1

          Yeah, fair call Snoop.
I just don't want to spend more than $20 if I can avoid it. I'll just be using these AA in a GBA (with two spare in my bag)… and only charging them when they are completely flat.
I'm fine setting an alert on my phone to stop charging my batteries so I don't think it will have a massive impact on me.

        • -1

Which charger you ask? The one mentioned in the comment I am replying to.

sorry my crystal balls in the shop (and im also out of negs again) so i was left to simply guess which you were talking about because, again like i said, you werent specific enough.

          You bore me Nosdan

what gave you the idea that i am here specifically for your benefit alone? WAY off the mark there sunshine. im here for my benefit and my benefit alone. if that happens to help someone else along the way then thats really great but dosnt change the fact that im here for my own benefit :) its a little self centered for you to think that everyone around you is somehow there for your express benefit alone?

do something more productive with your time.

more productive than getting all these wonderful bargains as well as helping out 100's if not thousands of other OzBrothers? sorry they stopped flying to the moon quite a while ago and im not sure what else comes in a close second to the OzB love :)

        • -1

I've got an idea on how you could bring benefit to a website based around posting deals that others benefit from.

Let me know if you are open to suggestions.

        • -1

          still trollin huh?
pretty sure i already do more than enough already champ. i have no need to increase my epeen just for your benefit.

  • Thanks OP, kerching…

  • Anyone with this charger, do you need to wait till all lights off, I charged for 8 has and lights still on?

  • I wouldn't mind a simple charger like this one but am not so knowledgeable on them. What does this charger do when the batteries are full? This is a "dumb" one that just keeps on charging right? Is it safe to just leave it on charge and come back say 12 hours later?

    • +1

not only is it "dumb".. but it only charges batteries in pairs….. so unless both batterys are equally discharged with identical capacity its not going to end well

stick to single cell chargers and preferably quality smart chargers

      • but it only charges batteries in pairs

Wow! No wonder they're clearing these.
Even my ten year old Varta easy energy pocket** charger (model 57262) can do four at a time and it stops charging automatically.
Admittedly, the four batteries that came with it are now so crappy, they can't even power up a camera when fully charged. But they're fine for remotes and wireless mice etc.

My local Coles were clearing Varta stuff at the time, and that charger with four 2100 AAs was only $10. They also had four packs of AA and AAA for $5 (2500 & 800mAh) so I spent a lazy $60.

More recently, I prefer the Soshine 4 channel fast charger from DX. Not very smart, but has a refresh/discharge at least, is reliable and cheap.

** If you don't mind a mango in your pocket.

        • by pairs i mean it can only charge 2 or 4 cells, not 1 or 3 cells at a time, so you need paired similarly discharged cells matched in each slot. its just not a good way to charge and is what lead to my old batteries dying before i got my maha charger. since getting the maha, several years on and my cells are still at the same capacity as they originally were.

  • +4

I don't see much value in this price, yes shipping included is something extra, but the charger itself worth less than $5 to me, i.e. I won't spend $5 to get a slow dumb charger like this.

  • I have this charger and I never rely on the lights for anything other than to tell me it's on and it's charging.
I work out the charging time and set my alarm on my phone to remind me to turn it off.
Make sure the batteries are flat before recharging.
As far as I know it's a very dumb charger but it does the job.

  • Would it be safe to say that Masters have the best pricing going around at the moment (in Australia)? $20 for a set of 4 AA or AAA and $30 to combine it with the fast charger! I wonder if I can get one of the 15% OFF codes to work with it to!

    • Hey snoop.. them and RadioParts. (though RadioParts is more trade specific)

  • Is Eneloop better than Energizer? Because Costco currently has Energizer charger with 8 AAA + 8AA batteries for $40, which is VERY tempting.

    • Is Eneloop better than Energizer?

In my experience, heaps better. We have eneloop batteries that are years old, and still going. It was only a matter of a few months and Energizer ones that I'd bought when on holidays (and had forgotten to take a charger)were no longer charging.

    • I mostly used Energizers before I'd heard of Eneloops and have ones made between 2006-08 that are still going strong.

  • +5

Seriously!!!!!! AGAIN!!!! FFS people they're just batteries ant the price is hardly unusual - they seem to be on special every second week. Far better deals in the past and this sort of price is just common. I thought OZB was better than this. :( :( :(

    • +2

agreed. What is the fascination with $20 AA batteries?

      • +1

specially when arguably better batteries are only $1.60 + delivery

      • Well it includes a charger too….

        • +1

Well it includes a charger too….

          as i said above

its a $2 dumb charger with $43 worth of branding. please if your going to get good cells get a decent charger

eneloops are really good, really expensive cells, they deserve a decent smart charger like the maha etc

        • Don't hate me… But what about, and only as a cheap alternative just to keep some kids toys active, the Eneloop quick charger (seen here at Masters), which I'm assuming is the MQR06?

        • +4

Problem with that is the cheap chargers will reduce the lifespan of the Eneloops, and if you have kids and will be using batteries for a long time it may be worth getting a smart one. e.g. Pay once for quality instead of replacing the batteries every however long.

        • OK, so now the search begins for a charger… and a lot of personal, hopefully objective/non biased, opinions!

        • +1

maha c9000 is "the best" but usually a little more expensive, the La Crosse BC-900 is good but not quite as good tho a little cheaper usually.. going by everything ive read….

but for most people i think you would be happy with either. your really talking about only fine differences between the 2. i think i have something like 50 batterys these days which are in constant rotation in different things and i thought the few extra bucks to get the maha was the best call for me and ive not regretted it one bit. several years on and my hobbyking batteries still test up over there stated mah claims (something like 2450 for the 2400 AA's and 920'ish for the 900 AAA's iirc)

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1003601

        • Looked before and happy to grab the Turnigy from HobbyKing, but showing no stock in Aus at the moment.

        • yea they are always in and out of stock. they were showing as stocked in china and they still ship from there if you dont mind waiting the couple of weeks for delivery (i didnt) plus the batteries are slightly cheaper there as well.

or pick up a some eneloops while you wait just to get you by for now. ive never said they were bad batteries but quite the opposite i very much like them, i just like the HK's more :)

    • +2

Seriously!!!!!! AGAIN!!!! FFS people they're just batteries ant the price is hardly unusual - they seem to be on special every second week. Far better deals in the past and this sort of price is just common. I thought OZB was better than this. :( :( :(

I think you'll find that the population here does come and go a bit. For some this is a bargain, and comes at a time when they do need batteries. No need to carry on like a pork chop.

  • Is the Eneloop Quick Charger any good then?

    • +2

This is the question??? Some say there's better (obviously that's true), and some say that the charger is built specifically to suit the Eneloops!
It would seem that bank 1 then 4 are for quick charging 1 or 2 batteries, and then 2 and 3 for charging 3 or 4 at a slower rate!
My concern is that I've read reports of the charger not cutting off after the usual charging time when just charging say 1 or 2 batteries! But did these people use the right banks???

      • imo, if your paying so much for these batteries, using them in a 2nd rate charger you need to be that careful of is a little counter productive.

my maha c9000 (as is the same with the La Crosse BC-900) charger you just slap a battery in and it always charges the battery "perfectly". no fuss.

charging batteries poorly, in my experience, can reduce there life span from lots of years to a year or 2. it just seems so counter productive?

  • I normally find that if Im using rechargeables for kids products they end up getting lost in one of the products when the kid gets bored of it…..I really dont care which charger is going to get me the best life in terms of years…

    • then you might just be better off using those cheap bricks of 30 batteries for $5 (or how ever much they cost) and throwing them out when they go flat?

  • +1

It was supposed to expire last night, but if you use the code PET15 on checkout you can still get 15% off at Masters making the quick charger & batteries $25.49 Click and Collect!

  • I think this is not a good deal. Compare it to this deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135845

I paid $25.95 including postage for 20 AA Eneloop batteries plus the charger back in first week of March 2014.
    16 Tropical AA Eneloop batteries
    4 white colored Eneloop batteries.
Charger and white batteries are the same as listed in this ad.

Dick Smith were supposed to send me Rouge but opted to send Tropical as they advised me in an email after I ordered. It was due to the high number of orders which were placed and they ran out of Rouge.
Not sure if Rouge are better than tropical. I guess I can always google it.

    • That deal has expired, and it's for 16 AA @$32.94 delivered.
