Not sure if the mobile version's any good but I tried the Wii U demo and it's quite exciting - for someone who doesn't like racing games like Need for Speed.
It has a four star rating and is free so why not!!

- iOS version is 1.05 GB and only works with iOS 7 or later.
- Android version is 789MB and works with Android 4.0 or later.
This wouldn't annoy me so much if we weren't still getting pushed glorified iPods with less capacity than what was standard 7-8 years ago and a refusal to allow removable memory (SD cards etc).

So won't work on older devices that are stuck on 6.0

On the iPhone it won't download at all.
Won't update my ipad 3 just for this game. My iphone 4 became sloooow after ios7.
I bought my iPad 3 secondhand with ios7 already installed, seems to run ok to me (although Im still running my iphone 4 on iOS6). The latest update has also helped make things smoother. I think I would just jump in and install it if I were you as you will find that more and more apps require iOS 7.

Thanks JV, I saw the Wii U version at Harvey Norman Auburn on clearance at $28 but passed on it as I still have a lot of other games to get through.
I ordered it from Ozgameshop for about that, only to see EB Games drop the price a few days after I ordered… :(

ozgameshop's pretty good with their shipping. I have consistently received items delivered to Sydney within 10 days of placing the order.
ordered on 9/4, shipped on 11/4, have yet to receive it.

8 working days with a 4-day public holiday in between. That's consistency and efficiency though for the most part, ozgameshop's prices aren't what they used to be, which is shame..

Looks like the game has gone free permanently. Probably due to In App Purchases now (on Android). I can't comment on the Apple variant of the game.

I tried the iOS version. It's incredibly addictive and you earn rings by winning races. You start off with Tails as a free character and can then use the rings you earn to unlock Sonic and a whole host of other characters, each with varying attributes (acceleration, top speed, handling etc.) Even with the touch controls, I really enjoyed the game and was playing this for a good 60 minutes.
