LG 42" 1080p Full HD LCD $1399 from Betta Electrical

153

I got this betta electrical catalogue today and on page 3 it has a 42" 1920x1080 LG LCD advertised for $1399. I am suspecting that it could possibly be a misprint but hoping that it is not.

  • Whilst it doesnt have a model number http://au.lge.com/products/model/detail/tv_lcdtv_fullhdtv_42… looks to be a perfect match :)

    Tempting tempting

  • great deal. shops probably dropping prices on LCDs to welcome the new fleet of LED tvs?
speaking of which, does anyone know of the best 40ish" LED tv deal around atm?

It's a nice thought but unfortunately they are not dropping prices because of LED backlit technology. LED backlights are still used with LCD TVs, they just replace CCFL backlighting for better colours, better energy efficiency and an overall thinner panel.

You won't find a sub $2000 40" LED LCD TV any time soon. And if you do, it's not worth it. LED is too expensive at the moment for the benefits it provides.

LED is becoming the new marketing hype like 200Hz was and 1080p was a few years ago. Don't get suckered into the trap :)

EDIT: For what it's worth, only a couple of months ago you could pick up a 42" 1080p LG LCD (42LG50D) for $1450, so $1399 is not out of the question.. though I do think it's a misprint.

  • Good for an advertised price, may well be able to haggle them down further! My neighbour picked up a 40" 1080p Hitachi last weekend for $1300 and that was just walking in to a random Bing Lee.

Confirmed. It's a misprint for a 32" one.. Called the store..

Too good to be true. Nice pick up tho

  • couldnt we just take the advert to jb's? they have the same model there…

    • they'd call betta to confirm price before matching the price

  • is this false advertising? can the ACCC make them sell at the price :)

    • oh… so reminiscent of the days of dell…

Yes I just called the Hurstville store as it is 2 mins from me and the guy who answered was quite rude and abrupt.
He said that it was a misprint and that it happens "all the time" so I asked him if they were going to honour the deal he snapped back "obviously not"
the reason I suspected it was a misprint is that Betta electricals NEVER have any good deals at all. Their sale prices are always at least 10% higher than other retailers normal prices. So this felt like it was too good to be true … and it was :(

    • Betta USED to be great on prices (like the one that used be in the Homebase at Prospect in Sydney, there is a Goodguys there now), this was when there were only a couple of stores in the group. This was maybe 15 years ago.

  • Betta sucks… I also had bed experience with them as well…

sucking & bed experience, so their shops are really a cover for something else which explains the high prices…

Negative Vote for being misprint - but good pickup all the same

      agreed.

  • have never seen a good price for anything from Beta, so have never bought anyting, i dont even bother to go to their shop or look at their catalogue. wonder how in hell do they make any money and are still in business!

  • Good to hear all the negative comments against Betta, cause the company is owned by GUNS Timber who have bad logging practices and are starting up a pulp mill along the river, which will be terrible for the environment. So i'd rather not support Betta Electrical.
