More specifically see this link from Anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingston-ssd…

These guys have made such a huge mistake.. they are almost giving away these slow SSD's at a much lower price point than anyone else. It is still a tad faster than most hard drives (for large files), so you might find a use for that purpose for a cheap price.

got a couple of these from amazon and sold them 1 week later

Max read speeds were 200MB/s and write speeds ~ 150MB/s for the 4 drives i got

Kingston have switched to Slower Micron NAND

The first generation V300 (which was sampled to media) used Toshiba's 19nm Toggle-Mode 2.0 NAND but some time ago Kingston silently switched to Micron's 20nm asynchronous NAND. The difference between the two is that the Toggle-Mode 2.0 interface in the Toshiba NAND is good for up to 200MB/s, whereas the asynchronous interface is usually good for only ~50MB/s. The reason I say usually is that Kingston wasn't willing to go into details about the speed of the asynchronous NAND they use and the ONFI spec doesn't list maximum bandwidth for the single data rate (i.e. asynchronous) NAND

    • very very crooked

havent read a single good report on kingston pre or post sale service

I saw this last night but thought it wasn't worth posting after reading a few reviews.

  • Still a bargain, even if slow. For $118 you were expecting a drive as fast as something for $160 from the local shops?! rofl. It will still be many times faster than a hard disk drive.

      • True, but plenty of people buy $1000 desktops or laptops with HDDs in them and not SSDs. These computers are still perfectly fine - you don't need an SSD. If you're a gamer, an SSD is going to make no difference to how a game runs - that comes down to the graphics card only (even the CPU is mostly irrelevant).

  • OH, so these are absolutely garbage, thankks for the comments.

I had no idea and was about to buy 2. I will reguarly visit ssd section of this site waiting for bargain 120/240gig drives.
