Cherry MX Keyboard $64 + Shipping ($10.55 to Sydney) @ Evatech

80

Saw this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/142554) and remembered from last year there was a deal on Evatech for this keyboard which I bought and have been using for about a year now.

Blue switch, tactile and clicky (http://evatech.com.au/mechanical/1836-cherry-mxboard-20-with…)
Brown switch, tactile and non clicky (http://evatech.com.au/mechanical/1971-cherry-mxboard-20-mech…)

Personally I love the blue switch because it feels old school, like the IBM keyboards of the 80s. It is a robust keyboard, haven't broken it even though I frequently smash my keys while playing Guild Wars 2 (which was also bought because of Ozbargain). This keyboard is very simple, no USB ports, no backlight but for its price, its worth it.

I think the switches are very subjective, my cousin has the ducky shine with brown and it seriously feels weird to type and game in…

  • So this doesn't have a brand? Anyone have any more info on these? Cherry MX is the type of keyboard, not brand. No idea if these are good if we can't find any info :p

Edit: It seems for some reason the brand is actually called cherry and the model is "mx-board". My mistake!

    So it's a cherry cherry

    • Cherry make the MX key switches, which they sell to keyboard makers.

They also produce keyboards themselves with these switches (e.g. the one above).

      • That explains it, thanks!

  • My $11 Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 is perfect… 3 years now, no issues, aside from 3 letters completely worn off but that's to be expected.

    • Any chance the 3 letters were part of the W, A, S, D combo?

      • Er, no. They are C, N, and M. It's funny when friends who aren't touch typists come over and use my keyboard, they say "what's this key?!".

    • +1

I am quite a fan of my pen and paper combo, ever since getting my pen license. None of my letters are wasted! =D

      • Funny stuff. I've been using keyboards for over 20 years, and this $11 Microsoft one is not only one of the cheapest I've owned, but probably the best. I've found that spending more money makes almost no difference - I've used fancy $100 natural keyboards back in the day, etc.

        • Try typing on a mechanical keyboard, it's a completely different experience.

  • These look like the same ones they are using at my local post office, recently all of the terminals got new keyboards and they all have the same cherry logo on them as this one does.

Seems like a good price for something with blue switches but it comes to about $85 shipped I'd probably only buy one if I lived near there and could pick it up.

Just found some more detials about it (and a cheaper shipped price):

    http://deskthority.net/news-reviews-f4/cherry-g80-3800-mx-bo…

It seems it is made by Cherry, the same company that make the Cherry MX switches.

    • Not a bad deal for those out of metro TAS, VIC, SA and NSW. For people that are within those areas, we would be the cheaper route.
      Good find!

Unfortunately we can't match those shipping prices, at least not if we use Australia Post or Fastway's pricing.

  • Any macro recording?

    • Nope, just all the regular keys - no fancy shortcut keys for sleep/wake, calculator, etc.

Can sort of make out from the images on the site. At least the enter and backspace key are proper size/shape!

  • was only $52 previously at the same store? Am I missing something - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/106022
