Great product. Got one last time.

    • +2

      same here, good product.

  • Got one! Thanks for that.

  • +1

I just went to GG to get an iPad Air, was told that if you pay using Amex, you are not allowed to get any discounted amount. I manage to pay with it anyway since the only discount I get was from the screen protector (discount of $1.5!).

    Cheers.

    • +1

thanks for the info, i'll try my luck tomorrow, if not i'll order from AO and get something else at good guys

    • Yeah I didn't even mention the amex and got turned pricematching something from Myers.

Such a joke of a store.

  • Sorry, I might be a bit blind but somehow can't find the link to claim the cashback online (as per information on the brochure)
Can someone please point me into the correct site?
    Thank you.

    • I added the form PDF link to the OP

  • Thanks, OP.

    Just ordered.

  • Great iron. Auto picks temp based on fabric. No brainer. We love it.

  • +3

So guys, what's the big deal about this iron compared to the usual 50-100$ irons you can get from target?

    • +1

We seem to have a lot of OzB's who really value a crisp shirt!

    • +2

I'd say, if you are single or married with no children then probably you want to give it a pass. In my opinion this iron cuts some ironing time, the pressurised steam removes creases quicker.

Not a big deal if you only have a couple of shirts to iron…as you get old, have kids and a pile of clothes to iron, investing in something like this can save some minutes of ironing chores so you can spend some time in something more useful like coming here :-p

      • Thanks braussie, but from watching a video about that iron, I take it that we must have one of those ironing boards that have holes in them for steam to pass through, I don't know how much more that'd set me back!

  • So how about Tefal Steam Iron GV5245?
    http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/tefal-steam-iron-gv5245/
$49 after cashback, massive 80% off RRP.

    • +1

      Steam Generators: GV5245, GV7085, and GV7096 – $30 Cash Back.
      GV7550, GV8960 and GV8980 – $100 Cash Back.

      • ops, my bad.

      • The GV7085 is $179 @ TGG and eligible for $30 off, so also $149 total. They look similar to me, can anyone spot the difference?

  • Looks like a robot, and seems heavy and kinda bulky, was comparing then to ordinary irons, whats the major differnce?

  • +1

I got the philips gc7635.. Should have waited for this … Funnily the philps cashback dissapeared frm their site , hoping to get the cash back.. The cartridges need to be replaced unlike this one… Bad impulsive decision :(

  • -8

What's the difference between this and a $10 iron from kmart? so it'll do the ironing for you, will it also do the dishes, walk the dog and improve my sex life? Seriously an iron is an iron, so unless your an ironing professional what on earth can justify paying that sort of money?

    • Cognitive dissonance much?

      • Just because I like wearing a crinkled shirts hasn't stopped my promiscuousness. But I digress, maybe if my shirt had of been ironed by a $150 appliance I could be the next brad pitt!

    • +1

You probably don't have enough sex to understand the difference, so stick to the $10 bargains at Kmart.

    • +3

A fan of paying the iron price I see…

      • +2

It will be hard to impress him

      • We must strike while the iron is hot

      • You'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal…

  • Was going to order one but item won't be received until the 12 May and Cash back ends on 12/May. You need barcode on the box to claim the cashback. So, not sure how cashback will work in this case anyone? Spoken to App Online over the phone and he's unsure how cashback can work too.

    • Cashback ends 12 May but you have until 25 May to get the claim form to them - "The offer commences on the 11/4/2014 and ends for purchases at close of business, for participating stockists, on the 12/5/2014 (The “Offer Period”). All claims need to be received no later than last mail on 26/5/2014"

  • Thanks bdl. Just ordered 1.

staticice could be misleading too…HN's price 199 is after cashback!

  • +1

very good price and good iron - had mine for around 1 yr now and the wife loves it (as she irons in our household)

  • +3

Make sure you post the cashback claim in immediately, it must be in Tefals hands within 14 days of the date on the invoice or they will not process your claim.

I got this iron from David Jones at xmas time. David Jones put the date as the date I ordered on the website, then they where slow to post it then Australia post was slow because of xmas.

Tefal just ignored my claim since it was a few days past the date, I got it in the end but I had to threaten to take it back.

  • +1

The best thing about this item is "Made in France" that explains one reason for the high cost, just wish there was a cordless version then it would be cool.

  • +1

Price matched at the good guys. A good buy. Thanks OP.

    • I too got it from Good Guys (price matched)…. but now that I look at the terms and conditions of the cashback I'm a bit concerned:
… "from a participating Tefal stockist (“participating product”) during the Offer Period. Participating
stockist is any stockist displaying promotional material communicating this offer."

I did not actually see any promotional material about this cashback at Good Guys - has anyone else?

      • ya dun goofed son

      • +1

My local good guys had the promotional material displayed, so don't worry about it. I picked up the cash back form which was located next to the iron. All good as far as I am concerned.

  • got!

  • I got this response from AO:

"Yes sorry. We don't have any available in Australia, and it looks like there is a significant wait as they are significantly back-ordered, so it may be a wait for a few weeks."

However, I should be updated, fingers crossed.

    • I sent an email because my delivery date was 13/05 - they told me it wasn't in stock and it's very unlikely they wlil have stock by that time making me ineligible to get the cashback. So i cancelled my order

      • They will give me an update when they get the stock, if they fail to get it by a centain time I'll cancel it, which they said was fine, i saved my conversation with them just in case.

        • Check with them that the invoice will be dated when they deliver it not when you paid otherwise your going to have a bad time when you try and get cashback.

        • Called AO to cancel my order.

Picked up one from TGG in Chadstone, the saleperson was going to charge me 249, so I asked him to add a dollar for the AMEX promotion.

  • +1

Got one from Good Guys. Asked them to drop price to $250, paid using AMEX no prob. $100 for a Tefal, bargain of the week :)

  • +1

Should price match off this one ($234.95) http://www.stancash.com.au/tefal-easy-control-steam-generato…

    • Good for Melbourne people who can pick up. Otherwise pay for postage which would be added on for a comparison price match.

      • GG didn't add on postage when I price matched a printer a few weeks back.

        • Lucky! OW and GG have for me on many occasions.

        • I'll be taking both in to price match, just in case. I'll show the $234.95 first to see what they say.

  • Does anyone know if shirts come out better and maybe crinkle less during the day after being ironed by a strong steam iron like this in comparison to cheap ones?

    • +3

I tried this iron out this morning which replaced a normal $120 iron with normal steam function etc and found out that this Tefal does a superb job…. I got a new business shirt with hard folds in it and can tell you that the result was damn good, the other iron would never remove the new hard folds in these business shirts. The only problem was that with so much constant steam coming out I had a wet floor due to the condensate. As such my older steel ironing board will definitely rust out much, much quicker than it would ordinarily with my normal iron. The floor gets wet so I put a towel there. I would recommend this Tefal as the shirt was much much crispier than I would normally get it.

  • The next iron man would be born due to this.

  • +3

now that we all have a new iron.. does anyone have any recommendations/deals for an ironing board?

  • +1

thanks OP, TGG beat the price (paid $245) and really happy with the purchase

  • +1

Why not buy Tefal GV8960 which is a newer model from http://www.stancash.com.au/tefal-pro-express-total-auto-cont… for just $210 after $100 cashback?

    • $61 more? Pft… Tell 'em he's dreaming

    • Thanks for this, I was able to get Good Guys to price match that price.

    • Why is stancash dramatically cheaper than the "best" price Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, Good Guys etc can do?

    • +1

I price matched GV8960 with bing lee online. and picking up tonight :)
$217 after cash back. bing lee included the delivery fee as well.

      • Hi ajedi2k, $217 after CB is great price. I just asked BingLee online best price they have given me was $379 before CB plus delivery not included. :(

        • +1

          hi Superlala
i can relate, i asked bing lee online to price match it earlier in the week, they said best they could do is $375.
i tried again on wednesday, first i asked them to price match GV7550 with stancash it way Oked, so when i called to make the payment i thought i'll try one more time and asked "Simone" (person online and phone) if she would price match GV8960, she said yes. So not sure if I was lucky or it takes a different person/method.
try what i did see where you go.

I tried to price match this with AO, they said no because it's below their cost price.
i'm putting my claim in today. good luck, let me know how you go..

ps. Stancash don't have any stock, but don't tell em that. :)

        • Just called BL online (spoke to Alex) he said they don't price match with Stancash, but ok to price match with OA for GV7550. Pickup or Delivery fee of $5. Yay!

So can't ask for GV8960 as OA is $469 on the website. I do like the removable water tank though. Might call BL online again Tom and see who I get to talk to, forgot to ask for Simone today. :) Thanks heaps Ajedi2k!

Also is the Amex spend $250+ get $50 cash back still valid?

        • +1

Yeh Stancash seems very low in price to against all retailers. funny part is they didn't even know about the cash back offer by Tefal when i was talking to them and no stock. Doggy…

try my method, i have priced match with bing lee before it's straight forward, but this time given there's a big difference Simone had to get her managers OK for 7550, same was followed for 8960 i think. it says on the receipt as well "price match with Stan Cash. OK by JS…".

yeh removeable water tank and auto shutoff is the reason i went for this. i've left my iron on a few times before. ;)

the other thing is stock, no ones got it, Auburn HN, GG none of them had either models. except bing lee Rhodes 5 more 8960 left.

nah, i only got a corporate Amex. not an Amex user normally, so no idea.

just dropped my claim at the post office, opening the box on the weekend to do some steam ironing…

        • Stancash does offer very low prices. BL online is good enough if they do price matching or near offer. Needed it quick to put in the claim on Monday.

Ok, asked for Simone today she gave me $320 for gv8960. Yippee!! Will do pickup from Rhodes, so 2 more left at Rhodes. :) Thanks again Ajedi2k!

        • Yeh, awesome!.

how do you like the product? i did some ironing on the weekend, and i loved it. and i'm a dude. ha ha ;)
i loved the steaming sound so i steamed around just the air after i'm done ironing, kinda sad. lol.

        • Yet to use it, can't wait tho. I've got heals of ironings to do…will whizz through them I reckon. :D

  • +1

I bought one of these at Hardly Normal (Auburn) today on impulse after seeing it on the shelf. Sticker price $499, current HN price $299, saleswoman didn't bat an eyelid when I asked her to price match $249.

  • +1

Thanks op. Picked one up from HN today for $240. Happy to get this for $140 after cashback, just as the old iron died!

  • +1

Thanks OP. Picked one up as TGG price matched AO.

Fellow Ozbargainers, when redeeming the cashback do you plan on sending the whole label on where the barcode is printed on or just cut out the barcode (since the redemption offer only asks for the barcode)?

EDIT: Can a mod or the OP please update the description of the iron. It does not have a "Removable 1.7L water tank capacity". It should say "Refillable 1.7L water tank capacity". Cheers.

    • pretty much going to get my stanley and cut it out like it is a piece of art and hope it gets there.

    • +1

thanks, updated the original post to refillable

    • The promotion says "original barcode" many times throughout the T&C so I would imagine photocopies are not permitted. That way people can't get the cashback and return the product for a refund.

      • Who says you can't return the product if the barcode is missing? :-P

  • Ordered from AO lunch time Friday, received 8am Monday. Thanks OP!

    • Ditto - Already sent off the cash back claim

  • +1

Picked one up from TGG this afternoon, price matched on the $234.95 I found.

  • Is it too late to buy? ApplianceOnline says if you buy now it will be delivered on 13th May. Not sure if that is too late to claim the cashback

    • Can't you do a price match anywhere?

      • I guess I'll try at tgg. Alliance online are out anyways. So point buying. They emailed that you will miss on cashback.

  • Anyone got their email notification from Tefal for the cashback yet?

    • My tracking shows that mine got delivered on the 13th (Yesterday). I'll report back when hear from them.

  • My form was delivered on 8/5. Still haven't received no cash back nor confirmation email. Going to return it on the weekend.

    • Good on ya nik

  • +1

Has anyone tried this contact which one was on cash back form 1300 453 313 ?

  • Hey balle, call the number on cashback form and it always end up on answering machine and no one reply the messages I left since 13/5. Bad promotion, bad services unfortunately… just another company that I have to cross it off the list to get anything from Tefal.

  • +4

Fellow Ozbargainers, I called the Tefal promotions hotline and managed to speak to an actual person!

I asked if they had received my claim and processed it but it hadn't been processed yet.
I told them I sent it via Express post so I knew that they had already received it.

But the gist of the conversation I had with them was this:
    - flooded with cashback forms, they are working through it
    - after they have received it, allow two weeks (at most) for them to processs the cashback to your nominated bank account
    - call them up if the cashback hasn't been deposited in your account after the third week.

    • STill no cash back for me!

  • I'm having similar situation.
Brought 12/5/14,last day of 'promo', filled in form & posted same evening.
I rang other day, someone did return my call, told, 'name not on system'.
I was advised, if my 'claim' is valid I should hear by next week.
I was asked if I had sent it 'registered', I replied no, it is not a requirement, they would have received it no later than the 16th, well within the 14 days from purchase.
I have not ever had post missing from 'other companies promos', sending via 'normal' post, was advised if I had they could have 'tracked it to check delivery'.
I daresay they were not expecting such a huge response, and not enough staff maybe to cope.

    Mmmn, my fingers are crossed.

  • Got my e-mail saying that the cashback will be processed on 6.6.14.

  • I got an email as well:
