Anyone know the minimum pixels that should be used for a photo this size?

    • +14

      minimum would be one…

      • +3

not if they're not square pixels :)

    • +3

For exhibition quality you can go away with 150ppi.
      So 3000px x 6000px .

For home use , minimum 125ppi.

    • +1

Sorry, I meant would a 4mp photo blow up to this size, with no distortion.

      • +1

        Give it a shot,

When your on their website, it asks for certain quality and wont allow anything too small. Also it gives you a preview to be sure,

      • +2

        3000x6000 is 18mp. Professional-size image.
4mp will look terrible. It's simply not made for it. A3 MAX (42cm x 29.7cm)

      • +1

It's a canvas print so it's a little forgiving on the fine details, not like a regular photo print.

My old 16MP camera gave me a maximum of 3264 x 4912, which you need to crop, looks ok enough at home.

To enlarge a 4MP would be wasting $59 IMO.

  • wonder how good if i panoramic print a landscape photo?

    • Worked a treat for me ^^

      • hehee, just tried to upload and preview it, its being cropped too much.
think gonna pass this one AGAIN

        cheers

I picked one of these last time the deal was up, i vouch for them!

Printed a 20mp landscape pic, came out good but my pic was well overkill. Not professional print tho

    • How long did it take? Just need to know it it's a couple of days, or a couple of weeks - not an exact time. Would it be ready for Sunday?

  • +1

2:1 ratio makes it a bit to find a picture to print

    • Generally landscapes, or a nice waterfall would look good. Otherwise you can make a photo collage using their inbuilt tool.

  • +1

Got one last time, can also vouch for the quality.

Its also worth noting that quite a bit of the image gets lost to the fold of the canvas on the edges. I used a photo of a group of people which mostly filled the frame, at least a couple of people were cut off on both sides, not that it mattered too much, but worth being aware. Shouldn't be such an issue for landscapes.

    • +7

      …didn't like them anyway?

  • Anyone know when this expires?

    It's not a voucher is it like the last 24" x 24"?

  • How do you get portrait orientation?

    • +6

      Just turn it sideways.

    • +1

After you log in to the FujiFilm Page (if you went there by clicking Buy Now link on the Big W site), click "Previous" and it'll take you to the main menu. From there, navigate through to Canvas Prints > Panoramic > Portrait.

The $59 price tag applies to the portrait option as well, but the link just takes you to the Landscape setup by default.

Just finished a 30x100cm canvas @ $79 with a res of 7681 × 2304 so just over 190 ppi I went for the 3.33':1 ratio instead of 2:1 as I couldn't get anymore height on the image without stretching it and wanted more detail in the panorama here's hoping it turns out well .

    quality vs quantity ;-)

    • several hundred photos…

Anyone want to link me to a good website (other than google images ;)) which has some nice scenic photos that I can use for this deal?

Combined 24 images each 3840 x 5760 images from the 5D MKIII in Photoshop, tiny bit of lens correction for vignetting. So resulting image was kinda large from memory it was around 2.4GB. Finally got to use some of the 32GB of memory in the Hackintosh ;)

Submitted the whole image with rough images into BigW so I could wrap those edges around the frame as they state they don't actually print those regions.

First canvas print so can't wait to see the results in 10 days or so.

Now just have to use my 24" x 24" voucher by midnight tonight as well ;)

Your e-penis has gained an extra level!

    • Didn't realise after all that effort the software they use threw all of those pixels away, end image was 4000x1711 ;(

      • That means their printer does 100dpi (4000 pixels over 40 inches = 100 pixels per inch). It can't do much with extra pixels and a canvas print probably won't benefit much from oversampling, so it just discards them I guess.

        • So what about the other dimension, 20 inches = 1711 pixels? That's obviously less than 100 pixels per inch (probably due to the printing system). Are these going to be square pixels (i.e. should I am for images that match this resolution)?

        • Oh yes I ignored the other resolution. 1711 pixels over 20" would be about 85ppi. It's probably a bit lower as I assume the 20" doesn't count the part that wraps around.

But since the pixels have to be square (fuzzy dots really) and 20"x40" is 1:2, part of the 4000x1711 image will be cropped or made part of the "wrap", presumably from the 4000-pixel side.

A 42" full HD TV is 36.6" x 20.59" which works out to be only 52ppi, so 85 isn't too bad.

  • Does anybody know how strict they are on copyright photos?

I printed a few Banksy pieces last time this was up. I don't think they care.

      • where did you get the image files? would love a banksy!

  • Does anyone know when this expires, can it be used whenever I want to use it?

    Thanks

We got this deal last time. We receive so many compliments! it's such a bargain! we had professionals family photos taken on the beach for $150 inc 30 edited pics. So much cheaper than paying $80 per photo. I would get another one but there's on so much space on my wall and I don't want to detract attention from the other canvas.

  • have they fixed that horrible software?

  • +1

the print quality is on the cheaper side of the scale when compared to other canvas printers but still a good bargain for this price.

Is anyone else having trouble after they click "Buy Now" on the Big W website? Seems like fujifilmimage isn't working :(

  • The site has been crashing on and off since about 1700 tonight … hopefully better tomorrow.

    • Maybe someone was trying to upload a 2.4GB image tonight. ;)

where can you get good HD pics online for free?

Taking someone else's pictures and getting them printed seems a waste to me.

One way of getting a good image, suitable for this, is via the new updated Camera app on Android KitKat. Find a nice picturesque spot and grab either a panorama or photosphere (only a limited angle) image - having first whacked the resolution up to maximum. With the new camera app the photospheres can be 50MP in size - more than enough.

I have an image from my N5 printed out on a canvas via this offer. Original was based on 2x3 images combined a la photosphere into one big image - then tarted up in PhotoShop.

      Looks fine.

      • Taking someone else's pictures and getting them printed seems a waste to me.

I like hanging only my own pictures as well, but copyright aside, I don't see anything wrong with printing other people's pictures. There can be plenty of people out there who aren't into photography but can appreciate a good photograph.

People buy posters and art after all. :)

  • Got too many pictures already and not enough room to hang, tempting…

Am I the only one who's actually seen a BigW canvas? OK there's a chance they use different suppliers in different stores, but what I had was complete rubbish.

"high quality artist stock"? are you kidding? Washed out detail and dull colors. Worse than their 4x6" prints.
"a quality wooden frame"? The wood is somewhere between balsa and cheap pine. You'll be warped within a couple years. Plus the wood is unfinished and has splinters coming off it.

Also the canvas isn't affixed well to the frame, it looks like it's glued to the edges. It doesn't actually wrap around the back. It wasn't stretched well either and was waving about in the middle.

    I wouldn't waste my $59
May be good if ur planning to throw it out after a year and print another one.

If this lasts 2 years and a "proper" one costs $200, you can change prints every 2 years for the next 7 years for the same amount of money. :)

    • +1

Think there must be a difference in suppliers then.

The one I have doesn't have washed out colours, the wooden frame is fine (no splinters) and the canvas is stapled to the frame round the back (with lots of staples). It could be stretched better, but in normal hanging it's flat enough.

Anyone know whether they can handle actual photos of i go to the store? I want to use an old photo which I don't have an electronic copy of

  • Placed my last minute order! Thanks OP!!

  • This is still available. Offer ends midnight AEST 21 May. Enjoy!

  • Picked one up using High-Res images from Flickr.

Looked absolutely amazing - absolutely no pixelation. Just make sure the ratios are right and you're golden.
