    WinRT…meh, pass…
    Build quality is good though.

  • Are there new models due soon ?

    • Apparently there's a microsoft event this 20th May. Not sure if it will bring up new models.

      • Supposedly a Mini model and a 13" model (tablet or ultrabook) are on the way. The regular 10.6" Surface and Surface Pro won't be updated, I think.

        • Its only a matter of time until RT is phased out. I think this may be very very soon when the new models are shown & announced.

IMHO, RT was really a huge waste of time/money/resources for a mobile OS that barely lasted 2yrs, I'd blame it on bad business decisions at MS R&D dep.

Rumour has it that the Mini model will be based on ARM, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Also, WinRT isn't simply the OS found on the Surface 2 / Surface RT. It's Microsoft's plan to create a uniform Windows ecosystem (across all Windows devices; desktops, laptops, tablets, Windows phones and the Xbox). In that sense, they might not see it as such as huge waste if it helps kickstart the future of the Windows platform.

        • I read/knew about the plans to merge/create a hybrid Win OS a while back. I do realise something is not a waste if it eventually leads to something greater; it just doesn't seem very prominent atm. Its just that the low priced x86 bay trail atoms have taken the limelight away from the Surface which was meant to/intended to be the low cost option for running Windows on a cheap device. Thats why what I said above may have come across as strong opinion.

Well, all I can say is 'From today, you don't know what will happen tomorrow', but 'everything happens for a reason', such is fate so take it as it is & embrace it.

  • Change title please, 'windows 8' is misleading, it's RT

    • Thanks for that! it's RT 8.1

  • I'd rather buy Surface pro 1 at this price.

    • Last I saw they were pretty much all gone.

      • Cheapest recently was ~$530 student price from MS online store, or $500 pricematched at retail stores.

Surface 1 Pro is EoL/out of production I believe?

        • I know what the last deals were, I'm saying that it's pretty much been EOL'd. Both JB Hi Fi and the MS Store have taken them down.

        • Yeah, it will be awhile until Surface 2 Pro will be that price too.
