So can anyone confirm on the quality of these and at this price point what else is out there?

also is the identical to the 40" just 48"?

I purchased mine for $582 (apparently this was the price they pay to stock them… i call bullshit)

Tv is excellent, (for the price). Start up time is lame but the inbuilt media player plays almost all formats. Even those lovely low bitrate .mkv brrips!

Speakers are pretty crappy but you can hook up your own surround sound or pc speakers. The tv does turn itself off sometimes but its only ever happened to me twice in 6 months. (Only seems to happen when you're playing large files from a USB storage device)

The 40" does not run android from what i am aware. This one does. I would recommend this tv as the price for the performance is pretty good.

Wouldn't mind installing XBMC on this but im not sure if its possible.

      • Any chance an explanation as to how you get any "smart" or xbmc function out of this tv?

        • buy yourself an add on TV box…
          http://tvbox.geekbuying.com/
my USB powered one is powered from my TV, TV goes on, box goes on, tv goes off box goes off…

          I also purchased a USB network adaptor…
with Plex on my PC it will stream/Transcode anything.

  • I bought one at the last sale. I haven't played TV on it, just video games. It is fine for the price. Sound is terrible of course, like most slim tvs.

  • I picked up one of these for a cheap bedroom TV, quality is what you except for the price but overall happy with the purchase (wife is the only one who uses the bedroom TV so I was just looking for cheap cheap!)

  • Good price.
I think they are clearing the stock for FIFA World cup/End of Year specials.

It would be nice if $399 included 5 years warranty though.
Do they agree to offer any further price reduction in stores?

Just bought this after testing a 720p 50fps mkv of the F1 and being satisfied with the smoothness.

  • im still happy with my 32 from years ago, I gotta hand it to soniq, the only reason I don't upgrade is cause after using a smart TV I just cant go back… they are pretty awesome…

I doubt it would run android without wireless or networking of some kind?

  • Bought this during the last sale, $479 with 5 years warranty, thought might need the warranty given quality of tv for peace of mind. Anyway, picture quality is not great but acceptable for the price, poor quality content may appear quite grainy and the colour and contrast is poor doesn't matter how I adjust it but if the input content is of higher quality then the tv is not bad at all. The sound quality is terrible to any standard so a cheapish sound bar may do the trick. The tv start time is not too bad.

Overall, good price for the size, the closest thing is the dse one for $499 I think, any branded one for a similar size will be around double or more.

    • just wonder have you tried the $499 DSE one?

is it Full HD 48" LED TV + PVR? and play most of the media files? :-)
I would call it amazing for $399!

      • I have seen the $499 DSE one and it is fairly similar picture quality wise so $100 is a decent saving I think, didn't check the specs too closely but would expect to be similar also.

This is a full HD LED TV + PVR, I have not personally tried the PVR yet but based on what I read on reviews from other users, don't expect too much from that. It should play most media files.

    • Currently $399 +$89 = $488 including 5 years warranty. Did you get $9 discount ($479) during last sale?
The DSE $499 TV comes with 1 year warranty.

I just asked the JB guy whats the best he can do and that's what he said, didn't haggle further. There's a fair margin/commission on extended warranty so I am sure other people can probably get a better deal than I did.

    • where's the DSE $499 one? edit: nvm it's right here —> http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/dick-smith-49-5-126cm-full-h…

there is a 47" big w one for $398 too

  • when will this deal start again?
    missed
