  • Perhaps add shipping to the title OP. $9.00 for most areas by the looks of it.

    • Thanks :D

  • no cheaper than my local deli by the time I take shipping into account, though I suppose it might be a good deal if you can't buy it locally.

Or buy more than one unit and save.

Plus the convenience of home delivery.

4 bags would be the break even… and i can't imagine how long it would take me to use that much salt.

  • What exactly is kosher salt? I mean I know it's salt that's kosher, but what's not kosher about regular salt?

    no deal. shipping kills

Hmm, I usually buy mine at Costco (Kirkland's brand with grinder) though I can't remember how many gms (370?) the bottle came in. It was $5 from memory.

    Unfortunately shipping kills this deal.

  • sorry, this isn't cheap! it's not expensive, but it's no bargain..
when my local deli sells the exact same thing for $8/kg, and I can choose exactly how much I want, not pay shipping, know it's great quality, not wait for delivery, and not choose the size of granule… i'm going to my local deli.

out here in the provinces we have no such cheap urban luxuries and still rely on the camel or less reliable postal system for fancy pink salt.

  • Is there any benefit to this other than aesthetics? Not that there's anything wrong with aesthetics.. It's a very pretty finishing salt no doubt.

Having looked at a few chemical charts it seems the quantity of extra nutrients contained in these salts is fairly negligible given the size of an average "dose".

Does it have a noticeably different taste? I've read references to a few informal blind studies, and it seems when dissolved in water at similar weight ratios people can't tell the difference. But people can taste the difference between different textures of salt applied to meat.. I'm guessing this probably has more to do with distribution/absorbtion

If you put it in a stew or soup or similar, you won't be able to tell.

If you dip bread in oil, then in salt of dukkah or something, there's a huge difference. If you're in Sydney check out Salt Meats Cheese (http://www.saltmeatscheese.com.au/) they have an amazing range of salts from all over everywhere. each one has a different texture and taste.

      • haha, that's my 'local deli' that i mentioned in my comment. it's epic. $8/kg
Plus the entire place is pretty cool
