the kerala backwaters, which aren't far from Kochi are supposed to be amazing…

Yes they are amazing, i stayed at the Zuri Kumarakom Resort if anyone is interested in a luxury stay, highly recommend it.

      • what was the cost like…in this resort…

        • Was expensive but we wanted to finish nice after backpacking around India, i think we paid about $400 total for 3 nights (Twin Share) but that included meals and inclusions of activities in the resort aswell as free backwater tour and sunset cruise.

So many places to go, so little time (and money!)

Amazing place, stayed there for 2 weeks or so, couple of years ago…. the backwaters, the sea, lots of coconut trees and lush wilderness throughout and those amazing houseboats where you can stay on the backwaters through the night… Amazing, exciting and adventurous.

    • nice place to visit…. sale period is around monsoons though!

  • Amazing climate, depending on time of year. A houseboat cruise on the backwaters is a great experience.

    Monsoon…

Having lived in Kochi for half my life, I can attest to the fact that monsoons hit Kochi around the last week of May. Rains are quite heavy most of the way through June and July. It should be ok to visit in August, though, when the rains ease a bit.

I flew into Kochi and travelled around Kerala and Tamil Nadu last August. The weather was mostly OK for the month, but our trip to the backwaters was a disaster. There are so many insects there and they get in your food. I don't know if other times of year are better. Also, the backwater boat hire people treat you like garbage and think you're made of money.

The way I was treated in general in South India made me not want to go back (no matter how cheap the flights are)! Kochi itself was interesting and rather nice from a historical point of view, but I'd avoid the backwaters like the mosquito-borne diseases they carry. There are similarly nice views of the coconut-fringed rivers from the windows of the train along the Malabar coast.

        • I always treat garbage like its made of money though…

I always wanted to visit India, but I guess it is too late, for 2 adults and 1 child, I can't find anything less than $2200 with the $147 add on for luggage

    Food for thought..

Emirates will fly you from Kochi to Dubai at the end of July returning end of August for $374
You can massage it in to the Kochi sub $300 return flights to sydney when you select monthly view.

  • Save your money and just go to glen Waverley

  • thanks TA…great pick yet again..!!!

  • I don't think these are return airfares. Are they?

Of course they are. Did you read the title? What good does it serve to post one way fares?
