  • Is this any good?

    • Geggles @ whirlpool.net.au:
The grind size is not consistent and so I wouldn't recommend it for high end coffee purposes.

Not good. Although you may be able to mod it as with the Sunbeam's and Breville's.

I bought one and had to return it. It didn't grind finely enough for even normal coffee. I sent pictures and a link to a website showing the different sizes of ground coffee to the company and they still insisted it was grinding finely enough. They finally gave me a refund, but then stiffed me on a few dollars. By then I was so fed up with them I didn't bother to complain. Of course it also means I will never buy from them again.

The grinder in the picture looks exactly like my Cuisinart.
I followed these instructions to get the grind a bit finer for my espresso machine ($200 machine)

    http://www.instructables.com/id/Hacking-the-Cuisinart-Suprem…

Turned out pretty well, although it was not able to grind fine enough for a friends high-end espresso machine. I got my grinder for over $100 so it does look like a nice deal.

I had a cheap burr grinder, as an upgrade from a hand-cranker.

It wasn't this one, but I'm sure the same comments apply.

The burrs were too small, and weren't aligned, so there was a big gap on one side when they started touching on the other.

They were direct driven by the motor, which means they spin around waaaaaaay too fast. You want a grinder to crush the beans, not turn them into sparks. Proper grinders gear the motor down significantly to the burr shaft.

Mine was a gift from SWMBO, so I had to be grateful for it. I must admit I rejoiced when it finally stopped working. Didn't try to fix it. Went straight to the shop and bought a Sunbeam EMO480. Never looked back.

For the difference in price, cheap grinders - even cheap burr grinders - are not anywhere near the same league as the Sunbeam EMO units. The difference is like night and day.

EDIT: just had a look at the instructions for shimming the burrs. Yep, that's exactly the same burr set as I had in my cheapy. Run away.

    • correct. i joined so i could share this.. whats so 'suss' about it?
      I brought one today.

      • pic/screen cap of your receipt/invoice?

  • I bought this on last Thursday websites says delivery to Melbourne is 1 business day. They just posted it today. Not to happy about it. I'm going to replace a spice grinder that I use to grind coffee at work. I guess this is not great but anything is better than a spice grinder.
