If I did not have an Evo I would not be here tonight
If I did not have an Evo I might not think that I was right
If you did not have an Evo you might not care the way you dressed
If you did not have an Evo you'd just be like the rest

    Chorus
Evo is not a dirty word
Evo is not a dirty word
Evo is not a dirty word
Don't you believe what you've seen or heard

I hope the Samsung Marketing Team read these threads…

      Shut up jv.

      • Never…

    • +1

      jv you've done it again!

    • I heard about that on the 6:30 News. Twas like some horror movie right there on my screen.

    • are you dont actually live here jv

  • -4

    Jv?!

  • $80.88 USD ($87.54 AUD) for a 120GB TLC SSD. Not a super duper bargain. MSY sold Plextor 128GB MLC SSD for $75.00 AUD last year. Centrecom selling Kingston V300 120GB MLC SSD for $59.00 AUD.

With TLC, you really want at least 240GB or more. Bear in mind with TLC SSDs, you have less cells overall so the overall lifespan of the drive is reduced.

    • +5

As someone whose had two of those blasted plextor ssd's from msy die (already replaced under warranty once) NEVER AGAIN. Would take samsung over that any day.

      • That's news to me. How long did it take to fail? Care to comment on the replacement process?

        • Yeah, they both literally just died mid use. The replacement process was pretty horrible, they wernt happy with it, but eventually went through. I did however buy it in canberra, and got it replaced in sydney's MSY, so returning to the exact store you got it from would probably be easier. Hoping to dig out the receipt with this ones serial number when i eventually get home in a few weeks and then ill trek it back and demand a refund, or atleast able to put the money towards a samsung or a kingston…. Never again…

        • MSY are crap Ive found. Took a Vid card back that was less than 3 months old. I purchased the full system components except the case from MSY at the same time. HDMI plug fault. Wobble the HDMI lead, and the monitor loses signal, and thats the fault it occasionally drops out if someone bumps or puts feet on the desk.

Anyway, they want to send it to the mfr, I need to wait for no idea who long they tell me. Or buy a temp one. Bugger off, its not hard to test it. Fixing might be harder, but…

          warranty my arse.

        • I'm pretty sure under consumer law you're entitled to an exchange of the same product from the store you purchased it from, regardless of what they say..I could be wrong though. Worth looking into?

    • +3

can't compare, samsung failure rates are much lower

    • +4

The kingston uses different and slower chips…they've been widely critized about this

      http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1360-kingston-v300-asynchr…

The Samsungs are awesome and this is a very good price

      • +2

I agree with everything but that this is a good price.

You can walk into an MSY and get a 250gb EVO for $169. That's $10 extra (if you double this listing for capacity sake) for local warranty, can be picked up - no wait, an extra 10gb of space and double the write speed (~500MB/s instead of ~250MB/s).

If you must get a 120gb then I guess this is ok, but the 250gb is better product at a better price.

  • +12

Interesting mindset…. for the upvoters in having 7-8 dollar savings + the wait + if warranty woes = more wait…

not that great of a bargain considering buying it locally for $95..= ready in your hands with local au warranty.

    • -4

      Convinced me
$88 aud vs $95 from MSY. That doesn't even cover GST

Sometimes people get out of touch with prices. I know I was on this one. Then amazon has a sale, it looks like a good price, and in USD it looks even better. Realistically though this is not worth bothering with, unless you already be buying it posted, or are doing a combined shop at amazon.

      • +2
        • It should be, it points out that its bad value for money, although for some they would rather go to the doctor for that $7 but the value in getting it locally is worth drawing attention to.

Perhaps OZB needs a 3rd vote type, the ?, meaning its value is questionable and you should take note of the comments that generated that ? before purchasing.

    • +1

I think that since it is posted in US dollars it seems cheaper at first glance.

      • +1

nah. I reckon the Ozbargain community is just too sensitized in having Amazon as the Base for all bargains! Kindof like a reflex action and u forget about conversion fees + warranty + waiting time..etc.. all we see is the bottom line price to get the item here.

I must say… many Amazon sales are truly a bargain but not much so this one!

Just keep the politicians out of OzB! I reckon it was the reason why last year some of em were being vocal and want to introduce GST on all purchases overseas!!!! They stumbled on our secrets.

Well I say to Mr Abbot just in case you accidentally stumble on OZB…. Keep gst out from our Amazon purchases or you will be Down Voted to boot as a PM! Just like what we do with jv.. the king of censored postings!

FYI, It looks like the Crucial M500 240gb is back at 109.29 USD. ($129.09 AUD delivered)

    http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BQ8RM1A

    • +1

Just got a few Crucial's. I hear that Crucial's are good when there is power failure. of course a UPS would be good to have… maybe in the future. paid around AUD 243.50 for 2 x 240GB M500 delivered.

      • +1

If you got it from Amazon, you might want to contact support to claim the price drop. It's now listed at $104.99 USD.

        • Thanks! where do I find the support link? is it like live chat or email?

  • +1

The 500gb is also the cheapest ever, AU$278.22 (US$247.98) delivered

  • +2

The Ozbargain crowd are always hard to please.. lol

Can pick up a 250gb EVO from MSY for $169. Personally I would prefer to spend the few extra dollars on local warranty and don't have to wait for shipping.

  • dont mind me asking but what is this product for? is it an external harddrive?

    • +1

For storage in your computer. Intended for internal use. May make your computer run faster if you haven't already using a solid state drive.

      • SSD is essential if I'm building a PC these days. Epic difference to boot times alone.

  • would this suit a Hp Dm1 13.3 laptop running 4gb ram? cheers guys

    • +1

There's only 1 drive bay so 120gb would go pretty fast unless its for very light use or you are ok with carrying an external drive around with you.

This guy did it with a 120gb
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooBtxTBhCiY

      • thanks for your reply, appreciate it.

  • it is only slightly cheaper than getting it locally. personally, i'd pay the small premium to get the local warranty

  • Tempting… But I'm waiting until 480GB's + are affordable.

I'm completely new to SSD's. What's wrong with Mushkin Enchanced SSD's? They're very inexpensive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W018K54…)

    • That's an mSATA SSD, plugs into an mSATA slot on your laptops motherboard. Not all laptops have this slot.
Standard SSDs just plug into the regular Hard Drive slot, which all laptops have. The advantage of mSATA means you can plug an SSD into the mSATA slot as your main system drive to boost performance AND still use a large capacity mechanical hard drive for storage.

Can't comment on the reliability of Mushkin tho, never heard of them.

  • Dang it! Bought one from CPL yesterday for $99. http://www.cplonline.com.au/samsung-840-evo-series-120gb-ssd…

    • You are not missing much, only about $10 difference when you factor in conversion to AUD. You got your item a week earlier with local warranty and a piece of mind.

  • +2

I reckon there should be a rule to post threads in AUD, say converting using XE.

    • Agreed, but use any conversion you want, just put it in the description.
