I've been looking for a Dual Action polisher to fix up some scratches on my car for a while. For those that don't know, Dual Action (or random orbit) polishers make it very hard for you to stuff up by burning your paint.

Stand alone 6" polisher kits can be had for around the $250 mark locally, but by clipping the coupon you get this for about $108 AUD.

This system uses a 4" pad and any normal drill you have lying around so requires ~50% extra effort but I'm not too fussed. Still beats doing it by hand! This one includes all you need to go from wet sanding through to a fine finish, as it includes Meguiar's Ultimate compound, polish, wax, and specific pads for each one. And 3 reasonable quality microfibre towels too.

Postage came to just under $25 US for me, to Adelaide.

Included in the kit:
-Meguiar's DA Power System Tool,
-one wax pad,
-one polish pad,
-one compound pad,
-3 microfiber towels,
-Meguiar's Ultimate Compound,
-Meguiar's Ultimate Wax, and
-Meguiar's Ultimate Polish.

polishing your own car should be done by hand imo

you must have a lot of time on your hands

        there fixed :)

Apply, glazes, sealants and waxes, sure. Polish, no way.

There is only one things that I polish by hand…

  • do you guys reckon this would be good to repair deeper swirls, where the clear coat is pretty much gone from the car?

    • deeper swirls, potentially yes. it can remove wet sanding marks.
Clear coat actually gone… No. You'd need to replace or fill the crack, wet sand, polish.

      caveat: I am no pro.

    • If you have any clear coat left, then sure I reckon it'd help. But if you polish through the clear, the results probably won't be great.

  • Not a bad price at all the attachment was $99 alone a few weeks ago here in S.A

    • The compound, polish and wax are about $100 too

wouldn't it be too heavy to move around if you attach it to a drill??

    • +1

Looks clunky. Bought an electric DA polisher for $20 from Sam's Warehouse.

      • +1

would love to know more about this… is it any good?

    • +1

Agree, a drill is just too heavy and incorrect for this job.

  • +5

Your drill also needs to have a variable speed adjustment…
IMO - I would pay the extra and get a proper DA with 6" backing plate and pads

  • I thought the voltage is 110v?

    • +1

This is just a drill attachment and not an actual RO.
