Standard plan. Been with Vaya for closing a year and a half now.

    • was meant to have said 'close to a year and a half now'

    • Standard plan

      Yep, belongs in forums

  • +5

    This is their normal price.

    1MB increment on data.

    Watch out!

    • Any programs for android to manage data connections? Something to keep the connection open until it uses at least 80% of a MB

      • i dont and i've never had any problems. my phone meter always matches or lower than the vaya meter (due to free social media and whatnot)

      • +1

last time i went over they shutdown my data anyway so i didnt have to pay… it was annoying but yeh at least i didn't get charged

  • +2

Old post, go with telechoice kogan - call value includes international calls.

    • I also went with Telechoice Kogan after a bit of comparison. Overall it's better than Vaya but the usage counter is really slow. In my case it's 40 hours behind real-time usage. Be aware that International SMS is not included.

      • +1

Vaya isn't much better - one time I got a warning message that I was at 75% of call allowance, rang them and they told me I wouldn't know if I'd gotten over 100% until 2 days after the fact, over which time I could have made any number of calls. Not happy with that, but happy with the plan & their customer service - haven't actually ever gone over or even near the limits bar that one month.

        • Thats how update to date Optus provide's the resellers with the usage info. Been like that for years now.

        • Install a usage monitoring app.

  • +1

Yep, this is their "normal" rate, with minor changes in details and price (from $17 to $19 data up to 1.5G)
We(in the family) have been using VAYA for almost 2 years now and could not be happier for not having to pay Optus or Telstra rates.

    RIP kogan.

  • shows as $18 for me ???

  • The main problem with this deal is how VAYA calculate their data session. Unweary users will exceed their data usage EASILY. This plan is definately not for surfing pR0n

  • Does anyone know whether I can churn my accounts from Liveconnected to Vaya for free?

    • Yes

  • isn't it $18??

  • +1

anyone know the live connected data increment off the top of their head?
went with this plan after being forced onto the newer crappier live connected plans without being notified

    • I'm in the same predicament hence why I'm looking to move!

    • LC use 1kb data session increments, a lot more reasonable than Vayas 1mb sessions

      • damn that's a significant difference.. may have jumped the gun by not shopping around more =[

  • can someone please explain how the data works?

if it's in increments of 1MB does that mean if I look up a few things on google amounting to a few kB and then stop - will it use up a whole MB?

Meaning every time it is used, no matter how little or how much, it will round up to the next highest 1MB increment?

    • I like to know as well…

    • +1

It's per session and session times vary depending on the provider and your phone. In some cases a session can last a day or longer as long as your phone keeps the connection active, I've heard it can be as short as 15 minutes in other cases.

      • -1

This kind of "variable Block Size over each variable Session Length" (not to mention some, who sell "Excess Data" in "Slots" of 1 GB) nonsense just serves to confuse less technical buyers.

It -should- (but… is it?) all be spelled-out (read: "clearly defined") in each offer's / plan's:

        • Critical Information Summary document

(We know someone, who was unable to access a CIS doc't for Dodo's "Pendo Buddy Box" (reportedly built around a NetComm 3G32W router, with USB port for 3G dongle).

The problem here was likely due to having to deal "only" with Dodo's Phillipines-based call centre & its unaware staff.)

TIO should require improved clarity in the marketing of-any- mobile Internet services offered in AU, IMO,
in the form of a CIS doc't - for each such service - to be accessible on-line, next to the service's price.

At least one can get a "1 month contract" today, so that one's suffering is minimal, ie, if they -didn't- run up, eg, a $200+ bill for "Excess Data".

IMO, with mobile data -so- costly, unused data should -always- roll over into future months, ie, when the contract goes on into that month.

    • Yep, that is essentially how it works. However, you might have background apps that keeps the connection open, like facebook, email sync, whatsapp etc So sometimes it is hard to tell.

Ozzapoo over at whirlpool made a calculate to work out how much you will be charged at based on your current usage.

    • The signal jumps a lot at my workplace that's why I preferred to stay with Liveconnected. I don't wanna "USE" 50-100 MB everyday for doing nothing.

  • Sounds like a good deal, but as always be wary of the international calling prices. Might around the same price for other companies, but looking at their T's and C's for East Timor is horrifying

9:57AM Edit This price is actually good in comparison to other companies which charge you $25 per minute. Go Vaya.

Been with vaya for over 6 months had no troubles other than the data never matches up. Usuage displayed on my android is around 90mb used on vaya it says I have used 309mb.

    • I'm with Virgin and i've had the opposite "problem". My Galaxy Nexus and now Nexus 5 show my data as, for example, 1.4GB, but Virgin only thinks I've used 800MB. They always underestimate how much data I use. It's not Android getting it wrong, either. Like, I have downloaded a 1GB file in there, for example. I wish I knew what the go is. My plan is up in a few weeks and I'm scared to leave this one haha.

Watch out guys. Vaya uses 1MB billing. Crowd sourced data has shown that this can roughly double your data usage (and potentially, much much more).

Would consider other options before going with Vaya. Per MB billing will be your downfall.

I'm on their old per kb plans and found out it wasn't worth the pain and agony of 4G.

With a bit of Excel work with their usage breakdown and I found that 850MB (2GB plan) would end up as 1600MB (1500MB plan).

    • Yep,, ex-telstra user here I used to use 2 GB now on vaya and I use excess of 4 GB due to per MB data billing. But data is cheap with them and I can just bolt on (extra, early,, if I go into red users can add retrospectively as long as before the end of month).

      Love the 4G speed tho!

  • Good value, it's been like that for a while now, nothing new.

Had the Mrs on Telstra $40 Cap Encore which gave her $550 and 600MB data. I decided to save some money and put her on a Liveconnected (owned by Vaya) 4G plan $19 $650 2GB (at the time). When she was on Telstra (for approx 12 months) she hardly ever exceeded 600MB/month and if she did it would have been with 1 or 2 days to go and the excess data came out of her cap credit, All good. When she moved to Liveconnected he monthly data usage was always over 1.2GB and sometimes she even got close to the 2GB. She had the same phone and used it in the same way (at home looking after the kids on WiFi most days). I switched her back to Telstra as we were having other issues with not being able to receive/make calls/sms and her data usage is now back at around 400-500MB per month.

I'm on Vaya. I'll help out, here.

Contrary to what some guy posted (full of crap), you will not "easily" go over your data limit. I browse a fair bit on my phone and run up generally 350ish megs a month. I know it's "funny" to say that you'd use the usage with pron quickly, but it's actually the wrong idea. If you watch a video, you're only going to use up to a megabyte MORE than what you would if you were billed by the kb because you're going to hold the connection for the entire session.

Looking at my itemised bill for the least amount of time in between sessions:

    17-04-2014 7:29 PM 1 mb
    17-04-2014 7:35 PM 1 mb

That's the smallest I can find.

Normally, you'd see something like this for larger sessions

    26-04-2014 6:30 PM 16 mb

So it is not as if they always put 1 mb increments.

Perhaps more tellingly, the fear is death by a thousand paper cuts. In my experience, this is not the case. My phone CONSTANTLY checks email all day and I do not see the horrific post apocalyptic wasteland on my bill. I do not see massive amounts of 1mb increments.

For instance, here are four days for me

    20-04-2014 1:16 PM 1 Mb
    20-04-2014 6:00 PM 1 Mb
    20-04-2014 10:24 PM 1 Mb
    21-04-2014 11:21 AM 1 Mb
    21-04-2014 11:28 AM 30 Mb
    22-04-2014 8:18 AM 10 Mb
    22-04-2014 7:47 PM 1 Mb
    23-04-2014 8:14 AM 5 Mb
    24-04-2014 8:22 AM 12 Mb
    24-04-2014 8:54 PM 1 Mb

That's it - and the phone would have been checking every few mins and receiving multiple emails all day.

Hope that helps. I'm a happy customer.

My wife just got hit with a $440 excess data usage charge through Vaya.
They claim she used 12GB in one day. Her phone states that she used 200MB for that month.
Customer service has been abysmal. She was promised a response within 24 hours but has had to call them back a week later to push the issue herself. This has been ongoing for a number of weeks now. I can't recommend highly enough that users avoid Vaya like the plague.

    • one of the first posts said they shut off data when the cap is reached, how long ago was this?

      • This is still ongoing. It happened a couple weeks ago.

    • 12GB in one day? That is crazy.

    • +1

Post it on whirlpool…Ben from Vaya is replying to people there…

  • Also keep in mind that many modern smartphone disconnect your data sessions in order to save battery life. One example is my XPERIA which has a "Stamina" mode to extend you r battery life. One things it does is drops your data session when your phone screen is off to save battery. I'm with Telstra prepaid (per kb billing) so no issue for me. Might be a problem for people who often unlock their phone to check an email then lock it again. Your phone will reconnect to the data network and re-establish a session when the screen is powered on then drop the connection when the screen is off.

  • WHAT’S EXCLUDED IN STANDARD CREDIT?
All international calls and SMS, calls and SMS made whilst
Roaming overseas, third party premium services (usually
starting with 19), Voicemail Call Return and directory
assistance calls are charged directly on top of your plan

  • I'm with Vaya and the fuss about all 1mb increments is just baloney. The difference it makes is roughly 50-100mb per month for me. Oh and yes, this is a standard price, not a deal.

    • Baloney is maybe a bit too strong. To the best of my knowledge, they do charge in 1mb increments. However, I rarely go over about 400mb in a month. That includes regular emails, rss feeds, web surfing (usually non-video/audio sources), weather updates, the occasional app update, etc.

I am not fond of being charged in blocks like this, but I agree with LordRichington (above).

  • +1

They briefly increased this to $20 (back in late March/April) I believe, and then back down to $18, so it is technically a standard price but it has actually gone up once and come back down.

I'm also with Vaya and can confirm that the 1MB increment billing has absolutely 0 effect on me. In fact, my app usage meter shows I've used about 650MB while Vaya has shown that I've used 550MB. Not sure which is correct, but either way you would expect that Vaya would show higher than what the usage meter shows.

  • Only provider that can get me through most of a month using google music on a penny pincher's budget.

  • +1

It's also worth reading this thread about Vaya. If you want to change plans, they make it fairly expensive (and clumsy) to do so…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/112632

If I understand correctly (among other gripes in that thread), you have to pay a $30 disconnection fee, then a $20 joining fee. You also have to be careful that you don't lose 1 month of data (or more) in the cross over. If you port away, then port back, you won't pay the $30 disconnection fee, but you'll still need to order a "new" $20 sim.

  • been on LC and vaya for a year or two. Highly wouldnt recommend them. if you get anything wrong with your bill or service, the help is close to NOTHING. the reps give you template emails which have no meaning what so ever. I got bill for using excuse amount, had this major communcation with them for weeks, until then they said they'll get more info from optus. Ended up to by their fault because they counted a day from the previous month. Was not happy what so ever with their service.

pay the extra 10$ and save yourself from dealing with these guys
