Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB $0 on JB Hi-Fi/TGG Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan (New/ Port-in, in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi / The Good Guys

1200

Part of this week new offers for the JB and TGG x Telstra mobile plans

As usual, you know what to do :)

Please do not keep trying to get your $99 refunded. If people keep doing this, this will raise awareness with Telstra and who knows the loophole might get closed or the ETC gets increased

For the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and iPhone 16, the max that you’ll pay is:
23/24 months x $800 + $99 = $865.67.

    • Thanks - added to the title

    • The Good Guys is also offering "BONUS $1500 OFF Google Pixel 9 Pro 128GB + Google Pixel 9a 128GB", although I'm unsure of what the total cost using this method would be and if it's worthwhile if we want the smaller model. I can't seem to find much information on it.

      • Yeah it's strange as the 9 Pro is $1,297 at TGG, so with $1,500 off, what happens with the $203 difference?

        • I think that offer is 1500 off if you buy 1 9 pro AND 1 9a

          • +1

@chanhoz: Ah that makes more sense, not as good then - thanks for clarifying.

      • It says $1550 for me. Might go to a store today ask what's the dealio.

          • +3

@BeerCrisp: Bloke in store told me you have to buy both phones, 9Pro and 9a. The + sign means "plus", not "or"!!

            • @Charlie Dont Surf: I've just got both the phones under the one $99 plan. The 9 pro and 9a.

              • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Nice would be interesting to know how much would be the cancellation fees

              • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Yes please keep us posted. I'd think it will be max $800 repayment still for the one plan.

                • +2

@jerdp: Yes. Max $800. I think the store made a mistake but either way, two phones!!!!

                  • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Good going! I think I am leaning towards the 9Pro rather than the (9Pro XL) but don't want the hassle of having to deal with offloading a 9a on marketplace etc. Great deal if you have someone to offload the 9a to!

I might still see if I can get this promo done for a 9 Pro 256GB.

                    • @Charlie Dont Surf: when i was in store last night they had the 9 pro 256GB on sale for $1447 - $400 off.

                      • @caspochek: Yes I think it might depend on the JB rep whether they will again do this $0 deal for variants of the 9Pro.

                    • +2

@Charlie Dont Surf: I just called them and my repayment is $766 + $99. So I got a Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9a. Cancelled immediately, no issues.

                      • +1

@o53djz7qTPY4der: What's the invoice amount for the two phones? And how much did you pay on the day after the $1500 credit was applied?

                        • @Charlie Dont Surf: Keen to know as well

                        • +2

@Charlie Dont Surf: I paid 0$ on the day. The invoice was $1550 for the two phones. $1297 for the 9 pro and $253 for the 9a

                          • @o53djz7qTPY4der: At GG now, they are saying that the original deal has changed and you now don't get the 2 phones for $1550. It comes off the price of the 9 Pro and then you get $200 ish off the 9a. So about $600ish plus the cancel cost for the plan.

                            • +1

@MrG: Do you want my invoice?

                            • +2

@MrG: Sounded to me like an error made by the GG staff, rather than an offer error. The banner reads that it’s a $1550 off if purchasing both phones, so they got lucky with the error!

                              • +1

@BargainsGrabber: I agree. I think it is an error. When I was in TGG, I was actually looking at the XL. Staff member comes over and asks if I need help. I explained I was unsure about the XL due to size etc. She then says "get the 9 pro and you also get a 9a".

I didn't really question it too much and just let her run with it.

Looking at the offer. I'm still unsure how it reads, whether it means you get both phones for free or you get $1550 off the cost of both phones.

Good luck to anybody else trying to score the same deal. I've re-shared the invoice on the same link as above.

                                • +2

@o53djz7qTPY4der: I had the most unfruitful expedition to TGG today!

Bloke wouldn't do the deal you got - this I expected. Bloke wouldn't switch the deal to a P9Pro 256GB (cheaper value). Bloke wouldn't do a P9Pro XL 256GB with me paying the difference upfront.

JB HiFi seems a bit more flexible, but it's probably a case of who you get.

              • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Could you please inbox the invoice? Thanks

              • @o53djz7qTPY4der: Do you mind sharing which store is this?

  • +7

Got this at release for same price. Pretty good device so far.

  • What will this cost me if I immediately cancel?

    • +10

      $766.59 + $99

      • I did that back in December do you think I can do it again?

Has anyone tried to apply for the $99 sim plan more than once in a year? If so was your application approved?

    • -2

There is a chance it is $799.92 if you cancel without having paid the $99

      • -3

Now that would be the ultimate deal.

  • Telstra not providing any credit off like $10 which they used to do it 2022-2023. last two year they refused to reduce $10 less. If anyone got trick to get this credit, kindly share it.

    • What credit you're talking about? On the overall phone plan? And $10 seems rather not

      • in the past, when i took $99 plan, i used to call telstra and ask them to reduce from $99 to $89 or $79. now they do apply any credit.

        • That was a discount for porting existing number. They don't do it anymore.

  • if this deal comes backup from HN, i will happy to take it - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/878079 as i do not go with cancellation process.

    • Same. Considering porting out of optus just in case it comes back.

    • It is back but with $399 Upfront on top - mathematically works out better than this deal if you stay

  • Would this work with the 256GB model? What would be the final cost(difference from 128)?

    • +4

Just add the price difference to your final cost

      • About 150 then, thank you!

    • +8

Terms say "Excludes Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB/512GB/1TB, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold models. "

      • Oh no :(… thanks mate for flagging it up

        • +2

I bought 256gb model today no problems. Just paid the extra.

  • Does the etc need to be paid straight away or does it go on an account to be paid at a later date?

    • 10 business days which it’ll be on your Telstra account (at least it was on my Telstra account)

      • +1

        Thank you for that :)

  • +1

I have to go in-store for this deal?

  • I wonder if they'll extend this to the other models as well like they did in the past even though they said the coupon only works with base iPhone

  • -3

RIP to those who thought the Telstra P9P deal was good.

    • +1

I would have preferred to get the Telstra $699 P9P (RRP $1,699) vs P9P XL $865.67 (RRP $1,849).

      P9P 59% off RRP
      P9P XL 53% off RRP

Or probably you're talking about the other JB P9P deal?

      • -1

Nah the one you're referring to. For me, it's a no brainer paying a little more for the XL.

        • +1

I'd prefer the smaller form factor with the same features.

          • +2

@BeerCrisp: It's a YMMV scenario. I value a larger screen size, bigger battery and faster charging.

            • @Maths Debater: Faster charging is probably the only perk, the larger battery cancels out with the larger screen size.
Comes down to personal preference on smaller vs. bigger footprint.

        • +4

XL is just way too big for me.

I had a P6P and hated the size. Switched to a P7 and it just feels so much more natural in the hand and a better fit in the pocket too.

          • @dontpanic: strong agree - got rid of the P7P for same reason. I have lineage on a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s 74mm across, 151mm tall. PERFECT. obvs slow tho

    • +1

I'd only have preferred the outright deal it as I don't like the idea of a credit check on my file for 5 years just to buy the phone. Otherwise I'm still considering pulling the trigger on this as my P6 pro is acting up and I'm not sure it will last until the 10 comes out

  • +2

Man, all these deals are happening for models I don't want, I really been hunting for a good base Pixel 9 deal for ages or even the Samsung S25 base…

I just want a somewhat compact phone.

Also because I just broke my phone too :(

    • This trick/hack was possible when the S25 came out

      • +1

Sadly I was looking for a phone back then

      • Yeh best deal hack seems to be during release.

Im keen for a smaller form factor and the best i can currently is via
Samsung EPP + Additional $100 Trade in on iPhone 7p + CBA Yello $100 back on min $500 spend
To bring it down to $899 for 256gb S25

  • Wah i just got the google 9 pro 2 weeks ago with this deal.

This is a better deal with the extra size, nice

    • The size of the XL is the one thing that is putting me off - enormous!! (coming from a Pixel 5)

      • I switched my XL for the 9 Pro and very happy with my decision

        • +1

because I missed out on the $700 P9P, even if it doesn't fit my hands the XL is the only option for me @ $900

          • @Bacons: Let me give you an idea, its up to you to try this

If you get this deal, $1847
Do all the required process, cancel, pay what u need to pay.
Then you got P9P XL with the full receipt paid ny the gift card.
            1. You can try to refund this phone for $1847 (i saw in previous deal, some people are able to refund the phone for the giftcard, just need to get lucky with a kind jb store sales rep)
            2. Then use the giftcard to buy P9P pro 256gb
(And even better, they have a discount on the p9p at the moment)

            Worth to try?

I am lao happy with the P9P, as the Xl one is a heavy phone compared to others

            • @wewehalim: thanks for the idea, i was more trying to suggest that knowing the p9p could be had for $700, paying $860 for a p9p doesnt sit right with me but paying $860 for the xl would

            • @wewehalim: Not sure about refund but I was able to upgrade to any iPhone I like using this approach

        • Only because of the more compact size?

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: For me the size is the first thing I consider. I prefer a phone that I can easily use with one hand and that doesn't give me hand strain after prolonged use from the extra weight and reach required (which I found to be happening with the P6P).

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: Yes, it's exactly the same phone.

  • Anyone knows what the tax invoice would look like? Trying to see if i could salary sac this one. Thanks

    • +4

Full price of the Pixel 9 Pro XL at $1847, and then it’ll show that you use a JB gift card to pay it off in full

However the GST will still be calculated on the $1847

      • +1

        Great! Thank you!

      • Have others done salary sacrifice via this method before? I thought it needed to be an outright purchase for the phone but this may look like a fee for cancellation of a mobile phone plan.

  • +1

I need a new phone urgently. I dont understand how at 99 per month if we cancel isnt 24x99 to be nearly 2300. I have read the wiki link but still concerned how to do these deals and dont wish to be locked in a contract. Id have to buy a sim or esim as ive iust done yearly prepaid on my phone nunber.

    • +2

You’re paying the ETC when you cancel, which is based on the original $800 off voucher pro rate and not the $1847!off for this deal

    • +1

I went into JB Hi Fi and straight up asked them to confirm that the price would be around $900 if I cancelled straight up and they said yes - if you are worried about it just do the same.

    • +1

You aren't locked in to the phone service contract. What you are agreeing to is a service term in exchange for a voucher or discount off a phone. If you terminate early you have repay that voucher.

But the way the plan is set up internally, the value of the voucher is set in stone, regardless of what discount you actually got when you signed up.

For the $99 plan, the default is an $800 voucher. So that is what you have to repay if you terminate early.

    • I went instore and asked the JB Hi-Fi staff. There is a cancellation fee for the contract which is technically for the value of the "voucher" you receive, but the voucher is upsized to the cost of the phone. However, the maximum voucher cancellation fee remains at $800. The proportion of the cancellation fee is simply how many months left of the contract you have vs. the total number of months.

So with a contract length of 24 months and an $800 maximum cancellation fee, cancelling after the first month means the fee is 23/24 months * $800 which is $766.67. This, plus the $99 you paid for the first month makes it the $865.67. The reason why it's not higher is because the critical information disclosure statement prescribes a maximum contract cancellation fee which is $800 which does not get adjusted to the actual value of the voucher provided.

  • Can the $30 perks promo be used for this purpose?

    • Yes you should
Because its counted as full price before being deducted with the giftcard that you get as a result of dealing with this plan

  • +28

Don't ruin this loophole people! Pay the 99 bucks like the man/lady said and don't be cheap trying to get refunds on an already great deal.
