Each week's voucher code is available through telstra.com/movies from 12:01pm Friday to 11:59pm Thursday

login into your bigpond account then below my profile it is the last option - Thanks Movies

get 2 tabs and its the 2nd one that says Thanks Thursdays - free movie rental - click onto get code

code will be emailed to you

    • Yep, using Bittorrent.

  • +5

You only get a choice of 1 movie out of a 3 movie selection. Also it appears that you must get a new code every week. will be interesting to see how old the movies in the selection will be every week??

    • movies are up now on the site. Just scroll down the page to see

  • +40

Unfortunately my Telstra broadband connection won't be fast enough to stream these movies.

    • +4

7.5km from exchange rocking a 11 mbits per second, good line :-)

      • +4

That speed at that distance sounds impossible. Sure you're not connected to a RIM, considerably closer to your house? Even with "Reach Extended" ADSL2, the speed drops to zero by 7km, see graph on this page:
        http://www.internode.on.net/support/guides/internet_access/b…

Or are you on cable, which doesn't use the exchanges?

        • Either a Top Hat or a one of those juicy pairs for regional areas that are better quality cable.

      • +1

        113Mbps Cable :D

Upload speeds in Aus are a joke though…

      • 36.59 Mbps cable here

    • +5

There is currently a free trial movie.

AWESOME film. Highly underated. Haven't seen it in a while. Cheers for the heads up.

        • Not that I'm weird or anything, but as a kid I'm pretty sure I saw Uma Thurmans nipple in this movie, then when I saw the movie later it seemed zoomed in so you couldn't see it. Maybe I imagined seeing it?

        • +3

It would be weird, as a kid, if you hadn't noticed mate. Unless you are gay. Or female. But…if you were female AND gay, then again, not weird. However, going by your handle, if this last were so, then this would flip it right back even weirder again. Wow. Now that's something right there …

    • Yeah 5Mbps at the best of times… wonder if its enough for the SD movies…

    • Sure won't if everyone is watching it Thursday night. Bloodu stupid idea limiting it to one day.

      • You have 48 hours to watch it once you start

  • +2

from a selection of three movies.

    Is this a joke?

    • +1

      Welcome to the 90's

      • -8

        Welcome to the 90's

I hope you realise that we are now in 2014

        :p

        • Nice

  • +12

The three movie selection limit is kinda lame, but free is free. I'll try and check it out sometime.

    • +11

Yeah, they should let you choose from any of the Police Academy series, not just the first 3.

  • The fact that its a download kills it for me. My internet is capped at 20Gb per month so…

    • +1

      Telstra?

      • +2

Skymesh NBN Satellite. Its not going to work out nicely

        • I don't know how you survive on only 20gb :/ You could get a nightowl expansion for $16 for an additional 20gb, but you could then only download between 11pm and 1pm the following day with the extra allotment. See.

        • We were on 10 GB two months ago and before that when we were on IPStar (Australian Broadband Guarantee - pre-NBN) we had 1.5GB which would go in about 6 or 7 days
The times on the Nightowl plan are unsuitable for us.

    • +8

For most BigPond Broadband Members, accessing the BigPond Movies service is unmetered.

      • Even telstra prepaid mobile broadband too…

        • +1

          Incorrect.

        • So prepaid mobile broadband users cannot get this?

        • +2

The offer should be valid for all Telstra customers. If you have a 13 digit account number (2000…) there should be no reason you cannot get this offer.

However, you will not get the benefit of downloading unmetered. This is only available to fixed and wireless bigpond customers.

Telstra postpaid or prepaid (whether data sim or phone sim) therefore will not offer unmetered downloads.

Choice of three movies a week isn't great, but at least they are offering something more than Optass.

  • I don't see any mention on the link about this deal?

They certainly make it difficult to claim - unless they are new release movies - it almost not worth it? = what's the best way to stream them? roku/airplay? seems like their list of devices is very limited - kinda limits their own market.

        • you can watch them on your computer too.

  • Sony can choose any one movie? I guess the newest movie out I would choose 47 Ronin or any new stuff.

  • Can Telstra business customers get this deal as well? (telstra business telephone line and internet connection)

  • That sample movie is poor quality I'm thinking they use that so people think they can stream without buffering.

  • +1

No way to sign up without credit card - supposedly to prove your over 18. Tried G+ movie for kids - no joy. Tried it to see what free movies exist - automatically debited my card when I thought was watching a preview of a kids movie. if not one of the 3 movies - you will be charged! where is the list of free movies? Very confusing. Ran up to see if they will remove my credit card so i can only use vouchers - "can't have an account without a valid cc" = no deal. cancelled account. ps for what it is worth unsteady / poor streaming despite 100mbp cable connection (regularly getting 80+). $1 Tuesday for a couple of kids movies per week is a better deal IMHO.

    • +2

only a selection of 3 movies? what a joke.
      which movies are they?

  • Does it include telestra mobile customers ?

    • +7

Does it include telestra mobile customers ?

Unfortunately not. Only applies to Telstra customers

      • +3

I'm a prepaid mobile user and it works for me.

        • +1

Works on my prepaid mobile too.

    • yes!!

  • How do rents work?

    • +2

4.click 'thanks movies' at right bottom corner

OP, title is imprecise. Should say "Free BIGPOND MOVIE rentals (ONLINE) every Thursday (for Telstra customers)". Lots of people can't use Bigpond Movies, for various reasons. Making the deal title more precise will reduce the number of OzBargainers who get excited, and are then disappointed because they can't get it.

  • I added the voucher code to my bigpond movies account and it gave me $3.99 credit. I wonder if that means I can rent any movie and get $3.99 off.

I didn't need to add a credit card to sign up like mentioned by lukejenko.

  • Yeah, I have 3 Telstra accounts, so I get all 3 movies! :-)
    Thanks Op!

  • is it like project gutenberg for film media? I thought I had similar on a Hdtv Samsung-app tv, few budget movies pm.

  • +1

In Victoria "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is on this Thursday. Sorry Telstra, I might give it a go next week.

  • -5

blah blah blah, wall of text.
so it's online streaming is it? how do we get it??

the original post needs to be re-written.

    • +3

"Wah wah I want everything spoon-fed to me without even vaguely trying wah wah."
OP did you a favor by posting this deal. OP owes you nothing. It easy enough to work out.

Anyone know of a way to force install the BigPond movie app on a rooted Android tablet?
App says not compatible with my device.

    • The fine print says 10"+ (tablets people) therefore size might be your issue (no offence).

Otherwise you might search for a particular file with a particular extension (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it here…)

      • Nope, I have a ten incher.
Its rooted too. (not because I dropped it)

        • Maybe not for rooted devices then?

I did read somewhere about needing Android v4.0.* (ICS) but didn't think it would be only that version, surely?

Can't seem to find that info now though. I have a Nexus 7 so I'm outta luck with tablets too.

  • After watching Sam-pond, i found a aerial cable plus tv tuner card in my PC (skim through those commercials yea) to give an enhanced experience. I would obtain cinema typically a few decades more advanced. ;-)

  • +5

registered online, no credit card needed. Need CC Card with registration through app..

claimed the voucher, $3.99 in account now… Assuming they will put 3 movies down to $3.99 from $5.99 on Thursday.

They got some movies for $2.99 which can use anyday not limited on Thursday. Most other movies are $5.99+

    Also, there's a FREE MOVIE

    • Looks like they've dropped to $3.99 already :)

Meaning it's ready to go now

  • +1

    Nothing matches Blu-ray for audio.

    http://telstra.com.au/my-account/download/image/banner-perso…

…but Telstra just make me want to lick Magda's beautiful face

    • Yeah, unfortunately bigpond movie quality was pretty sucky when I last tried it, about a year ago. They had such heavy compression that the "HD" movies were actually worse picture quality overall than a DVD (nowhere near a blu-ray). The standad def movies looked like old youtube videos.

Won't make much difference if you're watching on a small LCD TV or laptop or phone, but don't expect too much.

  • +2

Claimed the voucher and redeemed $3.99, does that mean next week I redeem another code and then have $7.98 credit allowing me to rent any movie ($5.99)? Therefore basically renting any movie once every 2 weeks?

    • The redemption FAQ suggests otherwise, though whether there's a difference between intent (what you're meant to be able to do) and implementation (what you can actually do) is something that requires testing to answer. Also unanswered is what action may be taken upon identifying breaches of usage conditions.

  • Is this for all Telstra customers? ie. Landline only, broadband only, mobile only etc.?

    • +1

all customers. just need a my account

  • "Compatible devices include Telstra T-Box and some smart TVs, PCs and tablets."
    what tablets does it support?

    • I installed the Bigpond Movies app from the Google Play app store on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the ICS 4.0.4. The app won't install on my Galaxy S4 phone.

    • COMPATIBLE DEVICES
Telstra Thanks Thursday's movie rental can be enjoyed via BigPond Movies on many devices.

      Any TV with Telstra T-box
      Smart TV's
      Samsung Devices
      LG Devices
      Panasonic Devices
      PC/Laptops/Mac
      Android tablets 10"+
Further details can be found on BigPond Movies

  • the mouseover pop up, for the movies, shows there are a number at $3.99 already. No need to wait for Thursday … if you can find something you'd like to see

  • Would be nice if it supported Foxtel IQ2. Seems insane that it doesn't, since that is Telstra's primary set top box!

  • Is there any way to stream through a Chromecast compatible app so I can watch it on my (old dumb) TV instead of on the small screen?

    • Assuming these BP Movies are played through your web browser (eg Chrome) you can use the Google Cast Extension to stream from your browser, otherwise I think you're out of luck.

I'm planning to use my laptop to stream it to the TV via HDMI.

  • Support for PS3? or XB?

  • Its a shame its not unmetered on 3G.
    That would have been great.

  • The films are now up on the page http://www.telstra.com.au/latest_offers/loyalty/movies.html#…

Scroll down to find them. WARRIOR is my pick.

  • just redeem my voucher and it's only $3.99 worth. and the movies costs $5.99 each. guess i have to wait next week for another voucher.

    • When I look in the Telstra Thanks Thursday category they are all $3.99.

      Movies this week are:
Journey to the Centre of the Earth
      Life As We Know It
      Warrior

      • ah, so not all movies. only selected movies. meh, watched them already. was hoping to watch hunger games.

        thanks for the info. :)

  • +2

    Next week's movies are:

    Where The Wild Things Are
    Get Smart
    Limitless

    • Oooh, good line-up!

  • +1

Village tickets have gone up to $11, booooo…

  • -1

So basicaly they just wanted to increase the Event cinema tickets prices to $11 and just didnt know how. Till they came up with this trick.

  • It seems as though the code/voucher expires (Eg. not stackable), since I forgot to use my second one and my Voucher Balance is now $0 (even though I added the voucher into my account last week).
