Shopping Express had them for $289 shipped tonight. All gone now I think. The local warranty and faster shipping would have been worth it.

    are these seriously that popular?

  • +3

Tempting but I'm gonna wait, these just get cheaper and cheaper

    • I'm in the waiting game also but this is so tempting :)

In case anyone was wondering, for anyone who purchased from Amazon around a week ago at $249 USD. Start a chat with their support, and they will refund the $10.

Great advice mykei. Thanks for sharing.

Just a heads up if you don't know already.
The samsung EVO series uses TLC NAND which, while cheaper and for some reason faster, has a shorter life span than MLC NAND
under normal use it'll probably last longer than a Seagate HDD though, just thought i would let you know

      starts a slow clap

You can write 100gb a day and it will still last over 10 years.

    • why neg?

      this a important point…

      • +1

No. It isn't. TLCs will last decades before any issues arise and that's at hundreds of gigabytes of writing per day. Not many do that much writing to their drives and even at 50GB a day, that's a long time before your have any issues whatsoever.

The whole TLC/MLC talk is just useless for the average consumer.

          Hi, Average consumer here.

          What is TLC/MLC?

          What is Google?

          What is your favourite colour?

OMGEVOSSD :o You should have warned us earlier. This is like the 58th EVO post here.

    • Seriously, check out TechReport and their extensive testing on this subject. These have been shown to be very reliable drives over the long term.

    • Valid mention though; not sure why all the negs. He's not bagging it out nor negging the deal - just providing consumers with more information.

I was about the leap for the Samsung bet decided to go with the MLC Crucial because I personally do a lot of data crunching and processing on SSDs for my own personal use. Every consumer has the right to know this as not all of us are part of the 99%.

    not here

  • Does anyone know how long is shipping from amazon ?

    • +13

      Around 32 inches.

      • lol inches is unit for time?

        • +5

honest answer.. about 14 working days.. hence 2 to 3 weeks.

    • Ordered mine on the 18th and estimate date of delivery is on the 2/6.

  • if anyone is interested in this samsung 840 evo 500gb, i ordered one last week from amazon for $276 AUD and paid $29 extra for dhl postage, and turned up in 3 days on my door step. When i went to instal the SSD in my laptop turns out i already have a intel ssd which came pre installed with my laptop. Anyways if any one in Brisbane area, wants this im selling it for $266 to match amazon and get this early rather then waiting 2-3 weeks. Oh and i didnt open it up so still brand new sealed

    • no way for $266

You should give better price than amazon…

      • price beat at 265 :)

    • The intel drive if it was more than two years old is not as fast as the evo,nor as power efficient.
You can clone the drive with magician software too.

    • Benchmark the intel drive and compares to online reviews of the Samsung Evo - might actually be worth swapping them out.

    • Msgd you mate :)

  • Very tempted by this deal. What's the difference in local warranty- if I had an issue would I have to pay for shipping to the US?

  • I did a test and yes samsung is faster but there isnt much of a difference in write speed

    • What about 4K random writes?

  • so what's the shipping charge like on these?

thinking of using my bankwest mastercard that doesn't charge for foreign currency transactions - mind you i don't know what conversion factor they use
