DS Gold Series HDMI Cable 3.0m (Was $55, Now $4.98 + Shipping)

160

Seems like a good markdown $55 down to $4.98. I am not sure about the technical goodness of this cable.

Show's you how much they're marking up these cables. Geebus!

  • pretty good deal. but postage kills it unless ur buying more

    • +3

Free postage for it (and other items) today.

Ill give it a positive, not because it is the cheapest, but because it is good to see a name brand brick'n'mortar sell hdmi cables for a good price. Looking at you Gerry.

I can't believe someone would pay original price. Any computer store (PCCG) would be far cheaper.

    • Not really. Their prices are pretty ridiculous too.

Any of the HDMI cable Ebay sellers that regularly frequent OB are the best best typically, but they haven't posted a deal in quite a while. They use to be far more frequent on here.

  • Have to say that 30 gauge (AWG) is rather crappy, even at this reduced price point.

    • +1

yeah that's pretty thin.. even the crappy micro USB cables you see on ebay and what not are 28 AWG

This is where they should be priced at… But I just bought a couple from Selby Acoustics last week!!!

Does anyone know if this is a 1.3 or 1.4 cable?
In talking up the goldplatedness they failed to specify what cable it actually is.

    • Audio Return Channel is a prerequisite for me, and only exists in 1.4+ cables

    • There is no difference between a HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 cable except the possibility to support the HDMI Ethernet channel, but no devices make use of this feature.
What you need to look for is "High speed HDMI" which this cable appears to be.

HDMI 1.3 does not support ARC
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#ARC_and_HEC

        • +3

Devices with HDMI 1.3 don't support ARC, but properly certified category 2(high speed) HDMI 1.3 cables should work fine with ARC, I've confirmed this myself on several installations where ARC worked fine with a HDMI 1.3 cable.

The revision numbers are no longer used for cables since just before HDMI 1.4 was released, now cables should be referred to as either standard or high speed with or without Ethernet channel support.
          http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/buying_guide.aspx#Choose

Also confirmed on the HDMI.org site that pre HDMI 1.4 cables work fine for ARC

Will I need a new cable to support Audio Return Channel functionality?

No. Audio Return Channel -enabled devices can be connected via all the existing categories of HDMI cables.

Just shows how much of a markup there is on these cables from the retailers if they can end up selling them for $5. Every sale at the full priced $60 is a $55 profit to the retailer for those idiots who actually paid the full price.

  • btw it's $4.95 shipping to metro, so not that great a deal unless you buy bulk.. and the max quantity is 11

  • +4

Reasonable price for a change. I however have recently replaced all my HDMI cables with these beauties and I can tell you the difference is immeasurable.

    • No 24K gold-plating? I'll pass.

  • still valid atm.. ordered for the sake of free delivery along with those damn AAA eneloops

    Sickening markup
