Wii U Skylanders Pack w/ Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (with Free DL Game) $269 @ Target 31/5

1200

Spotted at Target Highpoint.

Wii U Basic 8GB + Skylanders + Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (presumably with free DL game), starts 31/05. This is all for $269, which is $10 cheaper than the EB Games deal, plus you're guaranteed Nintendo Land.

This advertisement was spotted inside the store, but doesn't appear to be anywhere on the catalogue or online. (I've already bought my Wii U from EB Games…)

Update: As confirmed by others in the comments, this is most likely Australia-wide, i.e. if the bundle isn't advertised at your local Target, purchasing the Skylanders bundle (the advertised $259 bundle) + Mario Kart 8 will make the Mario Kart 8 show up as $10.

  • this sounds like the deal I've been waiting for - although I'm still on the fence in case a special ed console comes out with the release of Smash >_<. But can somebody elaborate a little further on the HDD requirements to download the free game via MK8? From what I've read, I'll need to purchase an external, powered HDD, else the free game will be redundant - which will blow out the price of the deal - considering that is it worth spending the extra money on EB's Premium deal?

    • I think this deal may be very similar around SMash time, but I also wager that smash will be as low as $60 without needing to get a bundle. This bundle is the best price and contents that the Wii-U has ever been.

    • +1

It might boil down to how many games you think you will buy digitally over time. Ultimately 32GB isn't a lot better than 8GB, it's ok for a few titles but if you plan to make a lot of use of digital content it's still pretty paltry. EB has the Wii U stand on sale for $9 and apparently the sensor bars can be had for about $5 online on eBay and the like.

If you aren't sold on black, I kind of feel the Basic + a HDD is a better option than the 32GB Black console where you may need to get an external anyway in time.

I'm not sure whether 8GB is enough to fit one or two games. I saw some download sizes for some of the titles the other day and they looked to be in the 2GB or so region, so hopefully it can fit one or two on there.

Edit: Isn't the EB Premium deal $429? If so that's a good $160 more so you can definitely come out in front if you get an external drive separately and you'll get 10x the storage.

      • However, if you're going to get Wonderful101 (Which I absolutely recommend) it'll set you back 12GB

        • Pretty big compared to the other games on offer. Must be a very long game. How many hours have you clocked on it & is there much replay value?

    • I reckon one of the cheapest ways to expand memory is to get a cheap 32GB SD Card, and one of those SD to USB converter plugs that will allow you to plug it in a USB port - should work exactly like a USB stick.

      • has this been a proven method? is the only other alternative a usb external drive?

  • pretty annoyed, just bought the skylanders bundle from Big W. Do you think they'll accept a return a week after purchase?

    • Not after the seal is broken. Maybe buy identical one from Target and return it to BigW?

    • I did the same thing, although I didn't open skylanders and had only played the Wii U a couple of times. I returned it to Big W and they said as long as everything was there in its original packaging it was okay, so you should be safe to return it.

      • Thamks, yeah I havent opend any of the plastic just played the wii u, i'll give it a try anyway.

      • How much of a refund did they give you?

        • A full refund.

        • How many dollars was that?

Can you do the same with the rest of the included games and get a super cheap console?

      • Thinking of doing the same. Which Big W did you return this to? Might try my luck there.

  • Is anyone able to confirm the release date of this bundle and whether it will be available Australia wide??

  • +1

Is this a stupid question? Does this include controllers? :S

    • +2

One. The large one with a built in display.

      • +2

The fantastic, ultimate, doublescreen, AMAZING GAMEPAD!

        Is its official name.

Don't let its size fool you guys; it's actually a fantastic controller.

    • On this side of things, can anyone comment on the quality of those $20 wiimote + nunchuck knockoffs on ebay.. are they a waste of money or will the get the job done? I mostly want to get the Wii U to play with house mates but the investment in controllers is a bit large considering the console cost and that I'm buying everything myself.

      • +1

If you don't mind used ask for preowns at EBGames? Get the genuine Nintendo ones.

        • Preowned is fine, will have to check it out just don't have an EB near me. Ebay was my other option I was considering if going down preowned path.

      • +1

They're a waste of money. Based on my experience, the nunchucks seem to work well enough, but the wiimotes are crap. The IR and sensitivity is all off, the rumble feels cheap and the speakers sound absolutely horrible. Not to mention that the build quality is obviously a step down. This was with just the normal wiimote as well. I don't know what the wiimote plus would be like. Seeing as it's even more sensitive, I'd imagine the knockoffs wouldn't be able to emulate the same level of sensitivity.

You'd be best just buying second hand controllers if new controllers are out of the question. But if you do so, it'd probably be wise to go to an actual store to check them out. eBay is flooded with knockoffs and you might very well end up with one even if you buy second hand.

        • Thanks heaps for your reply, appreciate it.

    • Lol, +1 for the question

Kind of confused, as my local Targets newest catalogue : Starts 29 May - Ends 11 Jun

Has only the Wii U and Skylanders bundle, nothing noted about Mario Kart 8

    http://catalogues.target.com.au/offer/nintendo-wii-consoles-…

    • Same here…

    • Called Highpoint, the store where this photo was taken, and the woman knew nothing about it. She also refused to put anything on hold for me which is bloody annoying because I'm competing in a race 2 hours outside Melbourne and won't have a chance to get to a store until the evening. My closest store had no idea about it either… Seems like the staff have not been informed of this deal.

EDIT: just wanted to add that the Highpoint staff member said that whatever deals they have would be available everywhere else, they are not store specific. So if true, despite staff not knowing about it, this deal goes live tomorrow everywhere.

      • Even if the ads are all wrong they might change it in their system before tomorrow?

  • anyone tried something similar? WIll they be supoer picky about the seals or is trying to get the same pack to return the better option

    • Are you planning on returning it to BigW for a refund? You would need a receipt, and since it's a bundle I don't think you'll be able to get a refund for it.

      • Hey, I've still got the receipt and the total bundle was in a single box. So i'm hoping, finger crossed it will work. Either way, I'll try and layby a target one, then try the Big W refund, if thats a no go I can cancel the layby.

How much a Wii U is worth: $150.

It's weaker than a PS3… Nintendo really stuffed it's nextgen console up.

    • +2

you never go full retard bro.

    • But it's much, much stronger than the Wii, which is what Nintendo was aiming for.

      I'd much rather play wonderful exclusive games on a low tech console;
      Wonderful 101
      Pikmin3
      Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
      Mariokart 8
      Super Mario 3DWorld
      X
      Bayonetta2

      Than shit exclusive games on a good tech console;
Ryse (Because the world needed another shitty God Of War clone)
      Forza (Mmmm necessary microtransactions!)
Kinect Spawtz Righvalz (Which has all but bankrupt Rareware)
(And that's pretty much all the exclusives the other consoles have, go figure)

      • +1

I loved Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One and Forza wasn't too bad, although I never played it competitively online. I haven't played Titan Fall yet but that's supposedly pretty good. If I had a PS4 I'd own Second Son.

The Wii U currently has the strongest exclusives line up, but it's also by far got the weakest third party support which is a biggie for people who only plan to own one system (inc PC). Once developers begin to drop support for the last generation consoles, lacking third party support could hurt the Wii U even more than it is currently.

All in all each of the consoles have good games…long term I'd like to own all three given each company will have exclusives that I'll want.

        • +1

I'll get a PS4 for The Order… Provided it doesn't WatchDogs between last E3 and its release.

Titanfall isn't exclusive as it's on Xbox360 and PC, so you don't need to buy a Bone to get one; in fact, according to metacritic, the Xbone version gets the lowest score.

        • I believe Sony just let them have an extra 6 months to polish the game so its good from start to finish. Unlike Ubisoft, where they just want it out the door lol.

        • I know you're referring to Watch Dogs lol, but the reason to got delayed to May of this year and not last year is so that they could "Add a bit more polish".

Guess they just sat on their hands, huh?

      • You're being pretty selective there. How about Titanfall?

    • Weaker then PS3 ? Wii U runs all games in 1080p whereas the PS3 only did for some. Assassin's creed 4 was better graphically on WiiU then PS3/360 and developers such as the ones for Watch Dogs also said the WiiU will be better be graphics then those two.faster gpu, memory, etc.

And you've got to remember the best graphics, etc don't come out until later in the consoles launch, for example compare Call of Duty 3 and it's latest iteration there is such a large leap in performance.

      • The PS3 and Xbox360 had 8-10 years of optimization for the console, and the Wii-U is an absolutely brand new console. To have games as good as last gen without optimization for the technology means absolutely fantastic things for the future.

        • Exactly once the developers get experience with it the games will look even better then they do atm.

  • Also just got a target catalogue.

This deal isn't in it. Only a bundle without Mario kart for 10 dollars cheaper.

  • Do you need to buy a HDD to install MK8? or will it run as is?

    • MK8 comes on disc. The free game you get with Mariokart 8 will require a HDD.

  • +1

Having paid off my EB pre-order in full, does anyone think it's possible to get Nintendo Land included by mentioning Target having this deal?

    • I'd say it's worth a shot.

  • +1

I was just in Target Rundle Mall, Adelaide, and saw the above poster, but I think I may have put money down on the very last unit (so the girl said anyway).

I went to other stores this morning (Newton, S.A.) and they didn't have the special, so perhaps it is selected stores only?

At the Rundle Mall store, they also threw in a 'Just Dance' accessory pack, with a Sensor Bar and another WiiMote, and a second copy of Nintendo Land, as she said they aren't allowed to sell it separately and need to clear them out.

Here's a picture of the Just Dance pack for reference (only pic I could find) LINK

  • Picked up my black wii today, glad I cancelled my basic pre order from EB and got the premium deal from Big W, looks slick.

Ozbargainers picking up nintendos sales lol

  • Yeah I get the feeling this deal is selected stores only or a mistake and a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

    • Has it been confirmed that it is nationwide yet?

    • A mistake yet printed posters in store ?

      • Gonna drop by my (useless) local Target tonight and ask the clueless guy about it again. Hopefully this deal will actually apply nationwide and be recognised by the staff tomorrow.

    • Looks like bait n' switch to me. Lure you in then say the deal was a marketing error. :/

    • I went to my local and they had a black and white photocopy displayed of OP's deal next to the full colour official skylander $259 no mario kart deal. Asked to pre-order and was refused. They said they would hold one for me until close tomorrow. (didn't ask for any details from me just my first name) Would not be surprised if I turn up tomorrow and the deal doesn't exist anymore. Something not quite right about it and won't be able to relax until I have it in my hands.

  • look again the poster OP linked to the "+" was like someone used a marker pen added on.

    • very true but the pack includes section has Mario Kart 8 as part of it.

    • That "+" symbol is like that on the other bundles as well. Just the style of it.

  • I checked some of the smaller stores around (Target, Big W, Kmart) and asked how many copies of MK8 they had in stock and each store only had 12 copies. It makes sense that some stores may not offer it due to the fact that having such small numbers of MK8 they wouldn't be able to honour this deal, so maybe they have the flyer but chose not to put it up. Not all stores have the actual skylanders console bundle either.

All you can do is try and persist, I really hope you guys can grab this bundle as it is excellent value for money. Good luck!

  • I was going to wait for the toy sales but I might pull the trigger on this bundle. Too much bang for buck.

Hope my local Target has this bundle.

  • +1

LOL. This bundle works out to be much cheaper than any of the 3DSXL deals in the history.

  • If we're not interested in skylanders, is this something we can flog off on eBay? Does anyone know how much this particular model/pack/version retails for?

  • Is this deal available now? Some targets are open 24hrs. Wondering if it would be worth a midnight run… -_o

  • Hopefully we see more news tomorrow. Much more inclined to support Target than EB. Finding stock in the former might be close to impossible though.

    • Yeah I want t support Target too, they aren't doing too well l8ly.

  • +2

Well, I just stopped by Target on the way home from work to check out this deal. There're was nothing there but I saw one of those Just Dance packs (Just Dance + Nintendoland + Wii remote plus + sensor bar). It said $1 on the price tag which seemed odd so I took it to the checkout to verify. It was correct… $1… I grabbed all 3 packs they had left and got three white Wii remote plus for $3! Unbelievable deal since they sell for $69 each. So go to your local Target and check it out. Mine is a country Target.

    • $1 for the pack? LOL some people paying $59 for just a peach limited edition Wii remote plus

    • Why would they put a sensor bar in the pack lol

    • Lucky :)

The targets that I have checked out (even the country ones) are smart. These do scan at $1 but they are for the Basic Wii U Console bundle which they still have signs up for $299. The Sensor bar is so you can actually use the Wii Mote with your Basic Console as only the premium comes with one.
The actual box says to be sold with Console only/not for sale separately or something like that.
If you can grab one though it's an absolute steal!

    • +1

$3! WTF! in shock & bewilderment

Which state was this store in?

    • Price error of a massive scale..

    • I just got one of these packs too (only one left in stock).

      Thanks Trippy, awwwwesome bargain!

    • Thankyou to the OP and you trippy - I picked up the one and only skylanders bundle on display from my Target local store on my way home from the gym around 9am , as others have said the guy behind the counter didn't know about it - but was willing to scan and see - he was surprised - I asked if he could check the "Just dance pack they had on display(Just Dance + Nintendoland + Wii remote plus + sensor bar)the ticket said $197!! but bingo - got that for $1 - He said something like "Wow you certainly researched that pretty well!" So thanks for the head up guys, I'm pretty chuffed with all that for $270

  • Went to Epping target. They don't have it in yet? They seemed aware of the deal, but hard to say.
    Trying another target now.

It works, as below. Plenty valley now has 1 left.

  • +1

Deal is confirmed, just snagged one at Glen Waverley, Victoria.

A few stores knew nothing about it last night but the promotion scans up automatically when items are scanned.
    The receipt comes up as
    Deal
    Skylander Bundle 259
    Mario Kart 10
    End of deals

Make sure it's the Skylanders bundle and not the basic bundle with Skylanders separate.

Applied gfs team member discount (hence not associated) for further 5% off. Winning.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up

  • Just picked up this bundle from Target Carindale (QLD). There were no signs for the bundle but the guy at the counter knew about it when I mentioned it an he put it through for me

  • Just got my copy from Broadway, where's the best place to get remotes? Got one for $59 with Wii Party, after a few more though.

  • Sorry guys I just got the last one at highpoint

    • Must have got more in quickly as I just got the last one from Highpoint at 7pm :P

  • My target guy has no idea, he's looking through the store room and will call me back.

Also does anyone know where to buy the gamepad from?

    • OK, my guy found the only one left and reserved it for me for 1 hour. Now to decide if I should get it or wait for some new special smash bros bundle! AHHHH!

  • +1

    Hey Guys!
I just layby-ed this bundle this morning too :)
I work at my local target and we weren't advertising this deal either for some reason but I asked if we could just scan them up and check and it worked! There should be heaps of this bundle because we barely sold any of the skylander bundles on their own so we're trying to get rid of them.

  • Got one! There is none left at chadstone but about 3 at Glen Waverley. Good luck!!

Eb has a similar bundle for 279. But I am not sure if it includes nintendoland

  • Got one from Westlakes SA, they should have plenty more because they are not advertising it nor did the girl behind the counter have any idea about it.

myColes card brought it down to $255.55. :D

  • +1

Got the last available one from
Chatswood. They didn't know about it either.

  • +1

Price matched this deal at JB this morning.

    • Which one? I just spoke to them and they said nope.

      • Woden Canbera. Belconnen the night before said they wouldn't however.

  • Got the (last) bundle with Just Dance 2014 pack for $1.

Staff were unaware of Mario Kart Wii U basic bundle at my local store but I showed them the OP (they were very doubtful) but everything checked out when scanning at register.

    Thanks again OP!

Now to buy an external HDD!

  • +1

Not sure if i caught a ozbargain scammer or dope, guy infront was in a rush so grabbed the version without skylanders or nintendoland, then tried to pay with gift cards that didnt work. Anyway for me the target guy grabbed the right one from the back, eb was still full of people when i left at 9:40.

    • +1

Probably a dope. A true ozbargainer would have working gift cards when rocking up to the registers with this type of deal

  • +1

Got one price matched at jb!

    • what location?

      • Barkly square, Brunswick. 2 left as of 10.30

        • Sigh… I just spoke to them and they said they wouldn't match it without it being advertised on their website. That's it - I'm out.

  • My goodness, was planning to go at 8:00AM but slept in. Got to Bankstown at 9 and the guy in front of me got the last one. Why did I have to catch the train ?? Bass Hill didn't have any so decided to drive down to Roselands and hurray, finally!

    • +1

Haha, I'm glad you got it from Roselands. It was me who got the last one at Bankstown :D

      • I knew it was a fellow OB member lol hope you're enjoying the console too
