Wii U Skylanders Pack w/ Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (with Free DL Game) $269 @ Target 31/5

1200

Spotted at Target Highpoint.

Wii U Basic 8GB + Skylanders + Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (presumably with free DL game), starts 31/05. This is all for $269, which is $10 cheaper than the EB Games deal, plus you're guaranteed Nintendo Land.

This advertisement was spotted inside the store, but doesn't appear to be anywhere on the catalogue or online. (I've already bought my Wii U from EB Games…)

Update: As confirmed by others in the comments, this is most likely Australia-wide, i.e. if the bundle isn't advertised at your local Target, purchasing the Skylanders bundle (the advertised $259 bundle) + Mario Kart 8 will make the Mario Kart 8 show up as $10.

  • Just grabbed mine now from Target in North Lakes, QLD.

Showed the salesrep the photo from here. He hadn't heard of the promo but said "Let me ring it up and see what happens."

    Boom!

    Its mine.

be sure to grab the D/l content flyer. Will post photo of receipt later.

    • D/L content flyer? Nintendo Australia website says you just need to register the Club Nintendo PIN code to get the free d/l game. See this link http://gamesites.nintendo.com.au/mk8_bonus/

      • +1

        Same/same.

The flyer I'm talking about has the d/l instructions on the back.

I'm pointing it out to save time for those that pick up the deal.

  • After reading your post, was a bit worried if I that I needed another piece of paper to get the free D/L game. Thanks for clarifying.

    • No worries. Sorry for the confusion.

Also, after re-reading this thread, there is no need to post my receipt. The deal is clearly available everywhere.

for those just tuning in, don't be alarmed if the sales rep knows nothing of the deal. It wasn't advertised anywhere in my local store.

Only thing on display was the Mario Kart premium pack and the 259 basic skylanders/nintendoland pack.

The deal is in the system, just have em ring it up.

  • Thanks OP and guys here for clarifying. Thankfully when it scanned up it works. Happy everyone here is having success.

$120 approximately for the Wii U itself is AMAZING, will never be beaten.

  • I got one, thanks OP

  • +4

That feeling when your neighbour comes home the same time as you, both holding the skylanders pack, lock eyes and perform a simple OzBargain nod of approval.

More seriously, Chadstone and Glen Waverley targets are out but maybe ask JB for a price match if you guys can't get it at Target, saw a few OzBargainers get turned away.

Got lucky by getting them to hold the sky landers bundle for me yesterday.

  • Target Hoppers Crossing VIC had one Wii U Skylanders bundle (the one which scans up at $259) but they didn't have any Mario Kart copies left.

  • +1

Just picked up this deal using my sister's 5% off card for working at K-Mart, making it $255.55. Picked up from Target at West Lakes, they seemed to know nothing about it too haha. Absolute bargain, thanks OP!

    • do you know how many they have left? I'm really on the fence with this one!!

Also how much would we get from EB for the skylanders bundle?

      • Ok getting one from Fulham Gardens target it is advertised.

Edit * when she brought it out she said it was the last one.

  • Just checked target Vic Park in WA - Nothing there :(

    • -1

lol i took the last one from target vic park :P

  • Around 10am - Carlingford, NSW has 2 consoles in stock BUT they have no Mario Kart 8's in yet. Lady said you could hold the console and pick up the game whenever it comes in however.

    Chatswood, NSW is sold out.

  • +1

Just another thing guys, if you don't see the bundle in the cabinets there could still be more left out the back. The skylanders bundle itself is quite big so we can never fit more than 1 or 2 in the cabinets and we usually have a bunch out the back. So make sure you ask a staff member first before concluding that you missed out!

    • Damn don't tell me this now, i stopped by one on the way to work but didn't have much time, saw the empty cabinet and didn't bother asking as there was a small queue :(

      • I can't speak for every target but I've transferred between two Targets in the past few months and it was the same at both places. We had a bunch out the back and the store I'm at now didn't have mariokart out on shelf either yet for some reason. You can always call before coming in and someone will assist you :)

        • +1

yeah they grabbed the bundle from the back for me.

  • Hey guys when I shake my gamepad a rustling sound resonates from the top right, does anyone elses do this?

It isnt the stylus, sounds like a possible screw is loose

  • Yeah … nothing left at my Target … saved $269. Lucky me!

  • Picked one up from Armadale WA store. Bargain!

  • Does anybody know if any Brisbane stores still have any?

    • Probably a bit late but Target in the city had none when i asked.

  • +1

People are already trying to sell the skylanders pack on scumtree for more than it costs brand new in the shops.

  • Scored the last one from out the back at Northlakes Target about 3 hours ago. You ripper. Thanks!!

  • got mine, thanks op :)

after some research it turns out the basic only has about 3gb of space for games (the rest is used up by the system), so i'll be getting wind waker hd since it's ~2.5gb and i don't want an external drive.

might have to buy pikmin 3 some other time…

    • +1

      done!

windwaker hd installed, save files and updates done for mk8 and nintendo land, 1.1gb left… as long as they don't do another free game deal i shouldn't need an external drive.

curiously wind waker was only ~1.7gb not ~2.5gb.

      • Probably a compressed &/or scrubbed ISO to make DL smaller+faster & save bandwidth.

  • Are Skylanders and Nintendo Land in a separate game case or included inside the Wii U box?

I think we might be responsible for doubling the Wii U sales this month..

    • Nintendo land is in the Wii u box and skylines is separate

      • Is Skylanders a big box or just one DVD case?

        • DVD Case. The figures and base station come in a piece of packing plastic. The skylanders stuff is packed separate to the Wii U which does have a standard box, and then this Wii U box and the Skylander stuff is in a larger box which is what you may see on the store shelf.

        • Hmm, I wonder why they didn't include the Skylanders game case inside the big box..

I don't suppose someone could take a photo with everything you get in the proper packaging?

Just wanted to be sure I'm getting the right stuff and nothing's missing.

        • Probably to keep costs down (material, weight and shelving space). It already seemed redundant to me to have two boxes. If I get around to it I might get a photo, but the outer box is the green one that has the Wii U and Swap force on the box and a small clear window to the right that shows a gold skylanders figuring. The side of the box mentions Nintendo Land is in there too.

Mario Kart Wii was a separate item.

        • The store I went to had none left, but in the glass cabinet there was one reserved. It was a big green box with the console and Skylanders in it, plus the Mario Kart game case. Is there meant to be a second box to go with it, because I didn't see one reserved there.

        • No that's the one. The consoles in a box inside the one you saw. Mario Karts sold separately.

        • @lostn, Smigit

I don't suppose someone could take a photo with everything you get in the proper packaging?

Bundle unboxed from the EB post

          Pics courtesy of 'azzman372'.

        • Does the Wii U come with HDMI cables, or composite?

        • 1 hdmi cable, no composite included.

  • I just wanted to ask, is this just the same as the EB Games deal just for $10 less? Or are they different? Cheers

    • I grabbed the EB deal, it was the same. Although I preordered mine on Tuesday.

    • +2

      Not the same.

Target deal is $10 less and you get Nintendo Land.

      • +2

Correct. That said, some people grabbing the deal from EB have been fortunate enough to also get Nintendo Land where EB have given them the Skylander package from this deal. Theres no real guarantee you'll get that and it's not advertised as part of EBs deal.

        • Picked up a mine today and they gave me the boxed bundle, as opposed to the Wii U + Skylanders + Mario Kart 8. Was surprised to find Nintendo Land in the box.

Also, my local Target had run out of the bundles very quickly and if you can find these in EB, it's worth the extra $10 or so.

      • I price matched it at EB and it had nintendo land in it

  • If jb price match use the 10% gift card deal from Big W.

Edit jb say they don't office match bundles.

    • How do you know they were ozbargainers, they call you Broden?

      • -1

Only ozbargainers would know the price hack with Mario kart…

So many downvotes, must be the guys missing out. I drove a half an hour to get there and checked three stores, so it was well deserved to get my copy. Downvote just because you missed out. Who cares I got my game fair and square.

        • I think your smugness was why you were downvoted.

    • It's always the same: Broden w/ big ego bulk buys item in question (leaving none for others) & feels the huge need to brag. Broden then gets negged to oblivion. I have 3 words for you: 'good for you?!'.

      • -6

You must have been the guy who missed out. Both weren't for me calm down broden

        • Whoa settle down. I'm not attacking you, just pointing something out; a fact (brodens in general).

    • I'm sorry, but what a w4nk3r

  • Target morley/Midland sold out in Perth. EBGames Morley sold out but EB Games Midland has some left if your looking in Perth :)

  • +1

So what bonus game is everyone claiming? There's a few I like but not sure.

Is windwaker worth it if already played gamecube one?

    • I'll definitely be buying windwaker!

If you already played it maybe consider pikmin or SMB U or MH 3 U. They are the ones I would go for. You can find MH 3 U at EB games for $36 though. Windwaker is probably worth the most $$

    • New Super Mario Bros U.

I already owned WindWaker as I purchased the collectors edition when it launched. Had no Wii U then but I've had plans to get one. I also have New Luigi U from the Good Guys sale from late last year which I've had away until getting the console. Looking forward to finally playing both of those.

If I didn't own WindWaker I likely would have chosen that.

      • Hey mate, I got New Luigi U from Good Guys too.

Isn't the NSMB U the same thing except for the Luigi aspects?

        • They are a bit different. Luigi U is more faster and more fun apparently. While Mario U is just like all the other new super mario games that have been out.

        • +1

From what I've read it's a more challenging expansion pack (that doesn't require the original to play). Time limits are changed and levels have been modified. Probably enough changes that I'm happy to own both. Mario doesn't feature either apparently.

  • Picked up the last one from Target Perth City at 11am this morning. BOOM! Now I just have to wait till I finish work… :(

    • Lame, I rang at 10.55 and they said they only had the premium bundle. Went in at 12.30 and nothing….

  • Where to buy sensor bars, wii remote plus and nunchuck guys?

    • N00b question…. What's the sensor bar for? If I've bought the basic set, do I need a sensor bar??

      • For Wii peripherals. If you don't play anything that requires Wii remotes, you're fine.

        • You can use the game pad as a sensor bar if you're desperate :-)

      • Yeah sensor is only for games like wii sports and so on. You can live without it but if you want to play games like that you have to buy it separately because it doesn't come with Wii U Basic for some stupid reason. You used to be able to get them from big w and jbhifi but if you search google there are some places that sell them

        • If you want to play wii games like Skyward sword/TP, mario galaxy 1/2 you would need the wii mote/nunchucks and sensor bars right?

I saw JB hi fi were selling a generic sensor bar for $12. Would that do the same job as the official ones?

        • Correctomundo.

The sensor bar needs to be powered but does not necessarily need to plug into the console. There are battery-powered ones you can buy for a few bucks on eBay.

      • So to play with 2 player Mario kart… With a motion plus remote, I won't need the bar?

  • Thank you for putting the bundle up on here. I wouldn't have known. Just got one at Lithgow NSW.
    Cheers

  • Question for those with MK8 in-hand: Is it shrinkwrapped? (OCD about this as I want to ensure its absolutely new & sealed)

    • nope. in target they take the discs our from the drawer and put it in and put a red sticker over it. Also the game came out today so of course it is new :P

Only thing is they may give you a club nintendo game for another game (they did this once when i bought Skyward sword and they put in a Donkey Kong code in there).

Of course this would suck because you need the code to get the game.

      • Thanks. I was refering to 'new' as in untouched straight from the factory, not as in new release. :S

Will call up my local tomorrow morning to check stock before going down there to save the trip if they have none. If I can be bothered running around, I might go to JB/BigW/EB to try & pricematch.

If I don't end up getting one no worries, as I know it will only get cheaper in the main EOFYS sales + I have Jul 31st to get MK8.

        • yeah. sadly it isnt absolutely new =(

but they should still be in decent condition.

        • I think he meant 'new' as in it couldn't possibly be second hand as it only came out today

        • I'm the same as you. I refuse to buy copies that are opened.

        • I'd make an exception this time if I manage to get my hands on it as it needs to be bundled to be at this price, if not no loss.

Can anyone that got a copy of MK8 from BigW or EB care to comment if game case is sealed?

        • Go mine from JB, not shrinked wrapped

        • My game case wasn't sealed and it came separately from EBGAMES

    • Nintendo Australia is funny with sealed games. 3rd Party games usually come shrink-wrapped but First Party titles (NSMBU, SM3DW, Mario Kart etc) usually don't on their first print. They do this with most 3DS games as well with the exception of a few.

  • Can someone tell me what poster stickers/codes come with the skylanders game?

  • +1

I've got to say the Wii U is very impressive, the web browser is the best i have seen on a console. when they release more apps the Wii U will be an amazing little beast.

  • If anyone wants to sell their Mario Kart 8 vouchers, I'm after a couple to pick up a couple of games for my kids - pm me :)

    • Have you researched if you can use multiple Mario Kart 8 vouchers for one Nintendo Network ID? (FTR I haven't checked, I (vaguely) recall not being able to register multiple copies of the same games on my Club Nintendo account).
You might need several Club Nintendo/Nintendo Network IDs if you were to redeem multiple copies of the same game.

      • After you register MK8 game to your account you get to select the game you want for which you get another code individually. Not sure if that code can only be redeemed on specific accounts but you do get one separately to redeem on the store.

  • A few things just came to mind.

Now a few questions for all you savvi Wii-U owners:
-Can the Wii-U menu be controlled with wiimote?
-Can the gamepad be used as a makeshift sensorbar if proped/standing up?
-Only HDMI & definitely no composite cable incl. in box? I think Wii one is reusable with Wii-U?

      • Yes, can be controlled with Wiimote
      • I've only found this works in Wii mode, with the screen on the gamepad
      • Yes, only HDMI, but Wii cable should work fine.
    • I can control the Wii Menu with Wii controller Pro, Wii Motion plus and Gamepad. Just gotta get the control order correct so if you want to use Wii Mote make sure it's selected as player 1 controller

  • So was this deal just for remaining stock? Do you think stores will be restocking and still offering the deal?
    I'm a bit disappointed I missed out :(

    • +1

Pretty sure they won't be restocking - Skylanders bundle seems to be an older one.

      • +1

I believe the bundle mentioned in a few posts that is being discontinued is the this Basic Wii-U SL-SwapForce one maybe because there is a new SL coming out soon?

So in short, some stores may/may not have some shipped in from central warehouse, but yes after all this stock goes there's no more as its EoL/ceased production.

  • Yeah A new Sky Landers is coming late this year if I read correctly

    • +2

Yes they are releasing ANOTHER Skylanders game… Trap-Team (Trap Parents Into Spending More Than Needed Money)

  • I wonder how much EB Games would trade skylanders in for.

    • I think i read it was $25. But that was for the bundle on its own. The one we get with the console doesnt have its own box. Will EB games take the figurines without a box? The game itself can be traded in i guess.

      • I'm sure they will. One EB I visited was selling the figures on their own…had a pile of them in a box. They should have no issue with the game not being in a box. Same applies to other accessories or even console trade ins where the box is a nice to have.

        • Oh nice thats good to know. I dont think i'll be keeping it so a trade seems pretty good.
